I use this tactic of sacrificial unit a lot of times and most of the times to avoid that an important unit (mainly the repeater crossbow units with mages) to be charged. The sacrificial unit is put under an angle, so that it will overrun in the direction I want. Since I am using a lot of small, hard...

Till now I didn't try out this one. I love the idea and it fits perfectly in my ultra mobile playstyle. This most probably will be my new black dragon. (Since I don't use the black dragon anymore in the new edition)

the matter is that Harpies can always be used to fullfill one of its duties and are always part of my strategy. The 6 witch elves (in the two times I tried them) could only find once a place were I could use them, bet even then not in the most optimal way. They simply do not fit into my strategy, so...

Also in Warhammer there is something like: "The spirit of the game". There is not for nothing a rule in Warhammer that a unit get rankbonus in case the unit has an extra rank of 5 or more men. So according to the spirit of the game the disigners of the game mentioned that a 'normal' unit i...

So conclusion should be: a big unit of executioners, according to most of us, is not worthwile, for reasons mentioned above.

In case most of us agree with this, than executioners will be again a not very popular choice in this edition.

Ichiyo, after a few try outs with the Withc elves, I totally agree with you. I have more use from 5 harpies than 6 witch elves. ;)

I did some experiments with this kind of unit. Unfortunately most of the times all firepower and magic was going to this unit and before it started to do its duty it was so weakened that a CoC would do more harm to the enemy. :(

6 harpies are also only 6, but they are very, very, very effective. ;)
But off course they have a totally different function in the game :D

This evening I tried the 6 witch elves and to be honest I was a bit disappointed. For my style of playing nowadays they are too slow and too difficult to maneouvre with them. Maybe with a musician it will be a little bit better, but then there you go, some extra points here and extra points there. W...

@ Ichiyo: I totally realize that Gobbo's and Witch elves have a totally different function. What I mean is, that I learned that most of my opponents before attacking are more or less calculating the damage they can expect. All i wanted to say that from this perspective the 6 Witch Elves will do most...

I start to like this unit also from the side of the phsychological thread. For only 60 points you have 18 poisoned atacks with hatred, with a high initiative. If you compare this with the gobbo's for the same amount of attacks you need to have 24 gobbo's in three ranks. And than you are not taking i...

To look at the points which you can get back or not depends on how you use the unit. If you use a combat unit as a stand alone unit, which should do the job all on its own, than it is important. If you use the unit in combination with other units than it is not important. F.e.: I sacrificed the witc...

@ Ichyo. I started the new edition with using big units. (as everybody was doing) Somehow with this tactic I couldn't get any success. With magic or with warmachines it is too easy too deminish our big units too small units again before the moment they come to battle. Than I started with a lot of ve...

@ C_Freman. Oops forgot the poison part (happens when you actually never used them) Makes them much better indeed. @ Valkyre. I agree that you should not attack them in the front. Question is if you can attack them in the side. Nowadays I am experimenting with using only small very mobile units, wit...

Suppose the WE are attacking a unit of Bretonnian men at arms (strength 4 of the pole arms): 18 attacks on 3+ to hit, 12 hits in first round. 16 hits after second round. This means 8 wounds, from which 3 are saved = 5 kills In return: Lets say the Bretonnians are 8 models wide. This means 16 attacks...

For me it is not only a matter of a balanced armylist. For me also is important the size of the army comparing with the battlefield. (standard 4'x6') My experience is that too many points leads to not enough possibility to manoeuvre. We also organized some 1000 point tournaments on a normal size bat...

In first instance we were reading it like this: You need to have an unblocked line to any part of the body. with a clear specification what parts the body has: Torso, head, arms and legs. In case you see only a knee, your sight to see the leg is blocked, because you cannot see the whole leg, but onl...

Any part is enough. As long as you can see less than half of the total model, it has cover. Bye Thanee I am sorry but I still do not understand. According to the examples in the book, you must see the head, the torso, a leg etc. But if you see a part of the leg. (So more or less a part of a part of...

Best size of 8 ed tournaments

Traditionally we are organizing in November a bigger tournament. With the 7th edition everything was clear: 2250 points and till 3 hours for 1 game. It would be interesting to hear the opinion of others what size of tournament nowadays is the most convenient with regards of the following aspects: - ...

Question about line of sight

Lately we had a discussion about line of sight: The rulebook says: "For one model to have line of sight to another, you must be able to trace an unblocked line from its eyes to any part of the body (i.e. head , torso, arms or legs) of the target. Does this mean that you must be able to see i.e....

We are making new woods which are totally stuffed by green bushes so that it really blocks line of sight and no discussion can be about this. Thanks Meteor, About the magician: At least at us most players use level 4 casters, which can add 3 more points to dispel a spell cast by a level 1 mage. (To beat them I need approximately 1 more die than they need) With the exeption of Power of Darkness (which is a 2 on 3 change that I will make th...
