I have pulled some tricks with the +1 movement banner and the ring of hotek on the champ. Marched them up 16 inch towards the enemy unit containing the lvl 4 wizard. It's risky but has the potential of really ruining your opponents day.

And then teclis moved a couple inches back out of hotek range and proceeded to magic the hell out of the unit while the rest of the high elf army surrounds it and the lone eagle redirects it towards nowhere. 24" - 16" = 8" , Elves have move 5 So moving backwards 3" won't get him...

As much as I know of SoM at this point I think it is very viable to start using the ring again. especially since when on a Fulcrum one not only uses the miscast from the BRB but also a second miscast from the SoM book.
