Re: Race compression and the end of times for Druchii.net?

The current state of fantasy battles brings me all the way back to the "ravening hordes" transition from 5th ed to 6th ed circa 2002. GW made some gigantic changes to the game play, most notably with the magic system. Remember "total power". It was a transitionary period. All ar...

Well, most of the magic rules are still optional or conditional on taking an ET:K army. The only rule the ET books have changed for the game is the 50% Lord allowance (I think).

Re: Next ET books

This Vermin Lord seems suspiciously like the time they gave Chaos Warriors the knights on juggernauts. Within a matter of months, Warriors had a new book...So it seems reasonable that we'll see the Skaven fully redone within 6 months at the latest.

Re: Race compression and the end of times for Druchii.net?

When is the current rumour estimate for the 9th edition to come out? I'd assume by the summer. 7th ed was September 2006, 8th ed in July 2010. But given all the random stuff they're throwing into the End Times books, they may try to spin it out for a further year to see what they should incorporate...

Happy Christmas to all you Dark Elves out there! May the fire cleanse your enemies...may your palate be cleansed too!

All hail the red one! Have I ever mentioned he's on my team? ;)

Re: Race compression and the end of times for Druchii.net?

9th ed Elves might come into two variants: - one strong, centralized feudal kingdom based in the woods of Athel Loren, defensive and shy in nature, with tensions inside between anarchist tree-huggers and diverse dominating factions driven by the ambition of their leaders; - many small colonies of l...

Welcome, welcome.

Yes, it's very much the case in Warhammer that if you see your units are in a difficult position, it could already be too late for them to do anything about it.

Re: Race compression and the end of times for Druchii.net?

It is also worth casting the mind back to 4th edition where there was very little difference between each of the elven races in terms of special rules (or indeed stat lines). Back then each of the races still mainatined a very strong and distinct character with far less detail than there is at pres...

Re: Race compression and the end of times for Druchii.net?

I would observe that GW has typically struggled to get it right with armies that have a large number of units. While the Elf armies allow several similar units to be 'collapsed' into one entry in some fashion (Executioners/Swordmasters for example), the likes of Chaos does not allow for that (bar 2 ...

Re: Why is End of Times: Khaine kind of awesome

Perhaps there will be a new monster type called "Oak Lord" or some such and he will be the applicable mini. Part of what I think they're trying to do is kill off as many characters as they can, especially low selling ones, that are made in finecast resin. Most of the characters that have ...

Re: GW is going to retcon everything! (Spoilers)

As long as Elves are lead by a warhammer version of Darth Vader i will keep playing ^.^ I find allies rules to be great, a way to start a new army one unit at a time. It's a shame they are not more widely recognized (8th ed already has fully functional allies rules after all) I don't think it helps...

But I doubt he decided the overall strategy. The higher-ups then the team as a whole would have set out this direction.

Re: GW is going to retcon everything! (Spoilers)

Let's face it, this is already Storm of Chaos attempt #2 - Valten's not dead, Archaon isn't humiliated and Grimgor hasn't really had much of a presence ( yet ). They retconned that since it clearly wasn't the result they wanted and they'll probably water down the consequences of these books eventual...

Re: Why is End of Times: Khaine kind of lousy

On the actual fluff itself, I'm always a big fan of role reversal although I find the results a little difficult to swallow (Druchii chilling out in Athel Loren what?), but that's probably because I haven't read the fluff. It's also worth remembering that everything is still up in the air: the End ...

Re: Fluff aside. What does EoT mean for our model range in 9

If they do change things, they're clearly trying to follow Warmachine's model - evolving story with different versions of the main characters that change with the story. I'm not sure how well that will work since Warmachine is completed tied to its special characters while in Warhammer they've been ...

But doesn't this pin your 1000pt death machine down to a single point?

Yes, he's not going to die, but neither are you going to make the most out of the investment (which could be put towards a Dragon Lord and Supreme Sorceress, spreading the risk).

That would make sense. Almost all of those models are those that are yet to be replaced from 4th/5th ed. The rat ogres make me wonder though, since they've had a plastic kit in the last round of Skaven releases.

Didn't the FAQ at one point allow it to auto-wound if it boosts 2+ to 1+?

(although I think the worst to hit you can get in combat is 6+)
