Yes and no. Characters are still going to have a hard time dealing with big units. Blow all of your allowance on Lords and you're not going to have much of an army to back it/them up.

That sort of army will struggle, even more so if you play scenarios.

Re: Is the End Times getting you down?

Returning to the matter of the End Times: perhaps it's the emotional callus that builds up after years in law enforcement and corporate legal practice, but I'm enjoying the change to the status quo, especially after Storm of Chaos was retconned. I like Archaon a lot more as Orcus on his throne, bid...

When I played 40k, that's what always made it better than WH as a competitive game - you had to be able to deal with a range of different missions to actually do well.

Comp just provides a different framework to abuse, I don't see the point.

Re: Old player returning

Welcome. I'd recommend paying a visit to the tactics forum. 8th ed WH is more about magic and infantry than it used to be. Light cavalry are generally only any good for taking on light targets (rather than rank breakers of old), so some of the subtlety has been replaced with casting some nasty spell...

Re: I have made a terrible mistake.

Of course, but I've made the mistake before of settling down for employment that pays a moderately high amount, but working in a field I didn't care about, doing a kind of job that I was rapidly becoming disinterested in. Now I'm making less cash in absolute terms, but am doing a job I really like ...

Re: Do we really need a LvL 4?

The danger is always falling into believing there is one choice available. I've been playing with a single level 2 or 3 with my Chaos Warriors for years. What you have to do is have a clear strategy with the army you make and manage the magic phase as best you can. You generally can't dispel everyth...

Re: harry talks on end times

I dunno, but I wouldn't treat End Times as just a campaign. You're absolutely right - it clearly says it changes the core warhammer rules for characters (We're back in 5th ed now ). I wouldn't want them to merge the Chaos armies (even though Undead Legions are unconditionally better than VC or TK) ...

Re: harry talks on end times

It would be nice if GW brought back their smaller games as something more than one-offs. Blood Bowl and Necromunda (my personal favourite) would be good games to compete with those other mini companies that are making smaller, cheaper (for now) games. GW need to consider "entry level" game...

Re: GW Annual Report

Why won't the bastards print extra! GW seem to work on the basis of "Make and sell 5000 (or whatever) and make a profit" instead of having unsold stock hitting their bottom line (which is looking increasingly parlous). Build up demand and guarantee sales, ultimately. They know the collect...

If monster characters are separate and have a more limited items allowance, it might work. Otherwise you could have a powered-up Crown of Command dragon rider just utterly grinding down units regardless of steadfast or losing combat.

Re: GW Annual Report

GW have gone 'Full corporate' on us. While once upon a time they would have offered the community some goodwill over pricing or rules, that just doesn't happen any more. Space Marines now get unit upon unit with every release (Anyone remember when new tech was akin to a holy grail in 40k?) and Warha...

Re: competitive army list: 2500 points, magic heavy, all com

It seems you've got it pretty well covered... But just one thing - the magic banners do not give you magical attacks. So magic will be the best way to handle them. The flanking sun sorceress may not work as well as you might hope - you're pinning a lot on her, and your opponent will be pretty wise t...

Re: 91 Warriors - what to do

Two small-ish units of crossbowmen is pretty standard, so building 20-30 of them as crossbowmen is definitely a good idea. As for the rest...I'd say experiment with a few army lists first. If you're going to take two big units, that's going to form a fair chunk of your battle line, so make sure you'...

Go with whichever lore works with your army. Life will work much better for an infantry army, for example.

Ahh, Nagash, I remember the days when he was good, but still went down to a bloodthirster (the full fat version, not the cheap rubbish you get these days).

If they toned down some of the more obvious 4th ed flourishes from the artwork, they would be on to a winner.

Re: Ho Hum - What do you think of the new GW website?

GW have never really had a 'good' website - sometimes the content was good (the guides on how to paint Screaming Bells and Doomwheels were great), but their implementation was generally shaky. I went and had a look at their WH iBook section and the answer as to why there is no P&M content on the...

Re: How do you keep the hobby alive?

Getting games has been hard. I still like playing WH, but finding clubs where there are a decent number of players is tricky, especially as I don't play 40k any more. My armies are painted and until the Skaven are redone I don't have much need to paint anything else (well, I should probably retouch ...

BEWARE OF NECROMUNDA! Maybe. Maybe not.

If you want a little light, balanced journalism:

Basically wargaming makes you a killer, people. That or there's a closet Necromunda fan working for the Daily Mail (although the Imperium may not be fascistic enough for them...).

I like Necromunda.
