Favourite Computer/ Console game music

Post by Lodark »

The clue is in the title. I'm just curious.

My favourite game soundtrack would have to be from Spellforce 2. Dynamedion did a great job with it and I'm so sad there's probably not going to be another sequel

Here's a link to some of their work:

Team Fortress 2 music, it's subtly deadly, as well as Portal music.

I agree with Loki on Tetris but good ol' Mario music comes in close, in my opinion. Also Pacman.

The music from Red Alert. That music was awesome! I wish I could find my soundtrack.

The man who writes most of the music for final fantasy (Nobue Uemetsu) has a metal band that remakes the music called the Black Mages. I guess my vote would have to be with them, if that counts...
if not, Legend of Dragoon had some amazing music.

Also, FFIX is the best FF ever! Not just the music (which is still great).

OK, vintage music for me, as it has been years since I played my last videogame!

Bassman vintage music awards:

Thunder force IV on megadrive (genesis for americans), metal on a 16 bit console!! Massacring aliens has never been so funny.

Arcus odissey on megadrive/pc engine, cool atmospheres, dark dungeons, I liked this game so much.

Wipeout 2097, playstation one, one of the last games that made my cry "blast them all!!!!" Future sound of London, Chemical brothers, so many cool bands inside, you can play the soundtrack by its own. Who can forget Firestarter by Prodigy?
when you go down, go down fighting!!

@bikeninja: Yeah he is great, i had a Black mages album once upon a long ago. And yes FFIX is the best, VII (although generally more popular) is a close second IMO.

Also F-Zero X. Cheesiest metal I have ever heard, but it is awesome.

Also has anyone ever played Rez? A few spliffs in you and the music becomes so good that you bleed.

Red Alert, Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander all have good music. The last two in particular make excellent use of Orchestral scores :D.

I also found that Half Life 2 made excellent use of incidental music to ratchet up the tension at the right moments.

Ah I remember F-Zero X... I use to love the music when I was a wee teenager. :P

The trumpets in Team Fortress 2 are excellent, fits the game perfectly.

But at heart, my favourite RTS is C&C3 (HERESY!) as for it's music.... That's until I get interrupted by a SCUD STORM!!! OH CRAP! OH CRAP! AIR STRIKE NOW DAMMIT! BLARGG!!

"Still alive" - the song that plays when you complete Portal. That's one of the best songs of all time.

As far as classical scores go, TES IV: Oblivion gets my vote. In most games I tend to turn off the music after a short while and play my own regular music of the moment while playing, but after more than a year Oblivion still has its soundtrack on. Some of the themes from Medieval: Total War 2 are also quite memorable.
Count them:

Painted in 2014: 600
Painted in 2015: 854

Can some of you guys remember the soundtrack of GW's Chaos Gate from the late 90's? I loved it, it was a great background music for painting miniatures...and it made a mediocre game so much more atmospheric!
Concerning the newer games, I liked the Soundtrack of Spellforce (especially the one from the 1st expansion set) and Oblivion
