2 questions about the Hydra...

Post by Columind »

1) The unit size for outnumber purposes of the War Hydra is 6 or 8? (6 plus the 2 apprentices) ?

2) When we use the royal War Hydra, the number of acid breaths is taken one per head (of the Hidra) or one per attack from the opponent?

Thanx

The unit strength is 8 (6+2) As for the Acid stuff the breath weapon is just that (template used) and for every unsaved wound the Royal Hydra takes in close combat the attacker(s) get hit with a strength 3 -no armour save hit.

eg: Let's say a unit of Knights charge the Hydra and cause 3 wounds. The Knights then take 3 strength 3 hits with no armour save allowed.

The acid breath is one flame template attack, hitting everything underneath it automatically, and partials on 4+, that is Strength 2 w/ no armor saves. The flame template can be placed in contact with any of the heads, for purposes of angles and units contacted by the template. For the acid blood, every unsaved wound on the hydra in close combat causes a Strength 3 hit (no armor saves) attack on the enemy that automatically hits, as Drowgan said.

Acidic breath and splashback are all S2.

but i mean...is the acid breath equal to the flaming attack (with the template)?
I thought the flaming attack was in the shooting phase, and the acid breath was in the CC phase. That is why the flaming template attack is strengh 3 and the acid breath is strengh 2 (no armor save).
Are you sure they are the same thing?

No, both attacks use the flame template in the shooting phase. For the royal hydra the flame attack is replaced by the acid attack.

The splashback damage is what happens in the CC phase.

So flaming attack in a normal hidra is strengh 3 and allows armor saves (using the template in the shooting phase)
And acid breath attack is on the shooting phase as well and uses the template but is strengh 2 no armor save (using a war hidra) is that it?

Yes that is correct

is now.

Splash back is in the HTH phase when the hydra takes a wound.
I'd rather lose a closely fought game then have it all sown up in a couple of turns.

Strangely, been here longer than most of the Admin staff.......
