Lords

0-1 Reptile Queen
The Reptile Queens are the most powerful of the followers of the Snake Goddess, imbued with her strength and powers. They are beautiful, immortal women with long, shining hair, that might even be mistaken for elves, if it were not for their lower body. In place of their legs, the Reptile Queens have the body of a serpent, a true sign that they are the embodiments of their deity. This bestows upon them inhuman speed, vicious ferocity, powerful sorcerous capabilities, and an insatiable hunger for anything they can find. They are oft considered evil by the people of Grand Cathay and Nippon, but they lead their warhosts forth in search of food, and food alone, and when the race of men sends it’s troops into battle in a desperate attempt to halt the Queen’s forces her hunger overcomes her wishes for peace, and she commands her troops to mercilessly slaughter all of the enemy, and then devours every slain body on the battlefield, friend or foe.

Python Bride
The hand-maidens of the Reptile Queen are the Python Brides, most powerful of her followers and the favoured of the Goddess, after the Queens themselves. To become a Python Bride is the greatest honour the Queen can bestow upon a follower. A Priestess may only become a Bride after proving her prowess and commanding skills in battle, and once a Bride, she gains the gift of eternal life. If the Queen falls in battle, her Python Brides will then fight to gain control of the tribe. The most powerful Bride is then smiled upon by the Goddess, as she then feasts on the body of the former queen, transferring the Goddess’s powers unto herself.

Python Priestess
The Python Priestesses of the Serpent Tribes are responsible for carrying out the work of their Queen within the tribe itself, and crush any who would attempt to stir up a rebellion. They lead the scouting parties to search for possible food sources for the Queen, and eagerly seek to prove themselves worthy to become Brides. Each Priestess seeks to gain favour in the eyes of the Goddess and her Queen, by bringing the most food to her, or giving her the most valuable information. Whenever a new Queen is “elected” each Priestess seeks to bring her the body of the old Queen for the ceremonial feeding, in order to gain favour with the new ruler of the tribe, to be the first elected Bride.

0-1+* Gorgon Hag
Gorgons are one of the most fearsome apparitions that the Reptile Queen can call upon to join her forces, with snakes for hair and razor sharp fangs. However, outside battle, they are generally shunned by the rest of the tribe. This is most likely linked to their habit of accidentally turning devotees to stone with their deadly stare. In battle, they use their stare against those who would oppose the Reptile Queen, slaying even the most powerful warriors with a glance, then striking down those that turned aside with their talons. The most powerful of their number, the Gorgon Hag, is greatly feared by her adversaries, roaming the battlefield, using her powerful stare to transform the great generals and leaders of the opposing force to stone.

Shaman
The Shamans in a Tribe are not seen as being special, for they do not have the gifts of the Goddess upon them. They are merely Cultists that have an aptitude for magic, and are allowed to practice it. However, the Priestesses are commanded to watch these individuals closely, should they make an attempt to overthrow the Queen’s command with their powers.

Core Units

Cultists
There are many humans in the East that become ensnared by the prospects promised by the Snake Goddess, and most have to carry out their practice in secret. They generally keep serpents, and, over time, their eyes begin to narrow. The news of nearby Snake Devotees is viewed as a threat by normal people, but to the Snake Worshipper, it is seen as an opportunity. They journey to the mountain rumoured to be the lair of the Reptile Queen, in search of the Tribe. Once they find the mountain, they enter it only to be captured by the guards and taken to the Queen. If she deems them worthy to become part of her followers, they are provided with weapons and food, and given a place to rest for the night. The Cultists are assumed dead by their friends and family, until the host of the Queen comes to bear on them, and they need not worry who else is dead, for their own death is imminent.

0-1 Serpent Swarm
The lesser creatures of the Goddess are too weak and small to inflict any significant damage on the enemy on their own. However, the Queen always finds a way to include her deities manifestations in her tribe and warhost. The small serpents gather together as the fight nears, swarming all over the battlefield in a hissing mass of scales. They never flee from the foe, not possessing the intelligence to realise the grave danger they are in, and so can engage even the most elite of the enemy for many hours, allowing the more capable, and dangerous, Python Sisters to destroy the remaining enemy forces, before turning on the unlucky foes who believed the small creatures would flee in fear from their glorious charge.

Unit Size: 1-5

Special Rules: Poisoned Attacks, Swarm, Unbreakable, Small: do not block line of sight, except to other small units

Giant Adders
These serpents are not as large as the greatest of the Goddess’s favoured, but they are still greatly beyond normal size. They are the Guardians of the tribe’s camp, slithering around the borders of their mountain home, keeping on the lookout for possible dangers and threats. It is believed that they do this job in the hopes that the Goddess, or their Queen will favour them, and give them more power, for although they are powerful in comparison to humans or elves, they are a mere shadow of the power that can be wielded amongst the serpents.

Special Units

1+ Python Sisters
Few warriors can go head to head with a Python Sister and remain in one piece. They are ruthless and harsh opponents, and carry out the commands of their Queen obediently and with glee. They seem like simple girls, youthful and joyous, with long, soft hair, but do not underestimate their combat prowess in any way, for it may well be the last mistake you ever make. They appear to be unarmed, and wear nothing but long robes that flutter in the wind, but they possess long, sharp envenomed nails, with which they can leave their enemies writhing in agony. Like all of the Goddess’s favoured, their eyes are small slits in their face, and shine with a beautiful pale blue glow.

Scale-Weavers
The Reptile Queens have been conducting experiments with some of their Python Sisters, using sorcery to twist and mutate their bodies, giving them extraordinary powers. The chosen Sisters gain scaly skin, and forked tongues. Their fingers become talons, and their spit burns anything it touches. Most interestingly, they gain the ability to change their shape and form to that of anything they wish, making them excellent spies for infiltrating cities. This also makes them brilliant scouts on the field of battle, as they can take the form of a bird, or even a leaf, blowing in the wind.

Special Rules: Scouts, Skirmishers, Poisoned Attacks, Spit Venom, 6+ Scaly Skin Save

Great Cobra
All serpents are said to be a manifestation of the Snake Goddess, but a few are truly favoured by her. They are the size of an ogre, with huge, serrated fangs from which venom drips, and are said to strike faster than light itself. They can easily crush a man in their jaws, or send him flying with a flick of their tail. These creatures protect the cave of the Queen herself, and are truly fearsome foes, with scales as hard as a dragon’s, and small, shining, pale blue eyes in which their foes can see their own death moments before it happens. This should help them avoid the snapping fangs of the reptile, but none can match their speed, nor can any explain how they seem to know exactly how every enemy on the battlefield will react to their threat, before the battle even starts.

Rare Units

0-1 Basilisk
The Basilisk is a creature of immense proportions and unlimited power. It is oft regarded as the King of the Serpents, and is said to be wedded to the Reptile Queen. The Basilisk is a rare creature, rumoured to be guarding the very soul of his Queen. When she falls in battle, the great serpent weeps tears of her blood, and refuses to fight any longer. When her body is devoured by the new Queen, the Basilisk turns to dust, and the new Queen is forced to make the journey into the heart of the tallest mountain where, according to ancient myth, she will find another devoted Serpent Lord.

Dogs of War

Serpent Poisons and skills may be taken by the characters/champions indicated in the list. The indicated models may take ONE poison and/or ONE skill, taken from their magic item's allowance. Each poison and skill may be taken by more than one character. Note that Gorgon Hags not use poisons, only a skill.

Serpent Poisons

75pts Venom of Failing: Any model suffering a wound from this poison must take a toughness test on 2D6 or be automatically slain.
75pts Toxin of Striking: All hits wound automatically, use the strength of the attacker for armour save modifiers.
40pts Open Wound: Each unsaved wound multiplies into D3 wounds.
40pts Long Agony: At the end of combat any model which was wounded by the owner of this skill must take a strength test. If passed, they are fine, otherwise they are automatically slain with no saves of any type allowed.
35pts Paralysing Venom: Any enemy wounded by the owner of this skill may not strike in the next close combat phase.
20pts Flaring Agony: Gives +1 Strength, and all attacks made will still count as poisoned. (the queen's attacks still follow the agonising venom rule)
20pts Burning Venom: -2 to enemy armour saves.
20pts Weakening Toxin: For every wound suffered, the enemy will have their Toughness reduced by one for the rest of the game. (down to a minimum of one)
15pts Agonising Venom: All attacks made will poison on a 5+, rather than a 6.

Serpent Skills

50pts Stitching Scales: The character has the regeneration special rule.
30pts Weaving Dance: Enemy models suffer -1 to hit the character in close combat and with shooting.
30pts Bloodlust: The character gains frenzy.
25pts Lightning Reflexes: The character always strikes first in close combat, even against chargers, in the case of two models in combat having this ability, attacks will be struck in initiative order. Roll off in the case of equal initiative.
25pts Silent stalker: May not be taken by Reptile Queen ; The character can be deployed as a scout.
15pts Crawler: The character can ignore penalties for difficult terrain.
5pts Hardened Scales: Reptile Queen and Gorgon Hag only ; Increases the model's
Scaly Skin Save to a 4+.

So thats the list, the magic item list will be here soon (hopefully) and will consist of only banners, talismans and arcane and enchanted items, magic armour couldn't be worn by the characters even if it was there, just hope I haven't forgotten anything. :?

So give me your comments!

Oh gush!! i was maimed!!! :P eh i'm getting older...

Okey let's begin this is gonna be a list of things that hit me first...kind of pre-analyse :P

First of all i congratulate you excellent fluff... It's really good much better then mine (my english is so limted :(
) Don't know if its your first language or not but sounds great...
Lord Khael Agath wrote:The Devotees of the Snake Goddess

Don't know why but Snake cult reminds me Amazons (half-naked warrioresses) ;) and certainly more with Lustria continent than with Cathay...but both places don't exclude themselves... While reading your list I thought that this could be biggest enemy of Lizzies in their own jungle country... kind of evil side of Lizard nature. So why not to place this Cult of Snake Goddes in Lustria realm as its on time right now?? ;) it could be contingent/merceneries for Cathay also...
Lord Khael Agath wrote:Stare: Undecided effect, please help! turns enemies to stone when they make eye contact.

'Stone Gaze' sounds better than 'Stare' IMO...I've got to ideas of that rule:
1. use that skill instead of normal attacks (all are forteiled) enemy model in B2B have to pass I test (6 always fail) or is killed outright (wards allowed or not...up to you)
OR
2. forteil one attack for gaze attack (resolved before any other...gaze is faster than any attack am i right?? ;) ). if that attack hits & wounds (basic strenght) enemy in B2B can't attack that turn
Lord Khael Agath wrote:Spit Venom: 8" range, 'thrown' weapon, S2, ignore armour saves

That's how would work spitted acid (ignoring saves) but venom don't pass metal AFAIK...so maybe change name for 'Acid Spit' or make it S3 poisonous shoot

Special Rules: Causes Fear, Poisoned Attacks on a 5+, must be army general, uses one lord and one hero choice

I have a feeling its underpriced... maybe call somehow that ability to poison on 5+, something like 'Agonizing Venom'... if she uses Shadow and Death Lore so why not Beast one as other magicians in army?? if it's lord than should have +2wounds than basical creature of its kind so rather 5 wounds...Ld is to great... cultists and sisters i humans i assume so do you really like to break rule that humans can't go with greater Ld than 9?? I9...don't think that i care about I...but isn't that to great?? She's a Lizard write...quite big... so why it has no Scaly skin?? even Saurus have...so i think SS: 5+ is all right...

good, only one doubt here...isn't she weak and defenceless woman?? :P i mean why she has S5?? list of heros having S5: Vampire, Black Orc, Chaos Champion, Saurus, Tomb King, Anoited, Daemons...do you really think she looks as strong as those guys??...i don't, humans just don't get S5...and again I should be 7 (according to normal lord rules +3 than normal creature of her kind in that case Python Sisters)...

Yo think about it.
These are giant snakes they have mouths that can swallow you whole and fangs to break your body in half...THATS what the killing blow is for.
Scaly skin I'm not sure about.
If my knowlede is correct a Basilisk is a lizard so scaly skin a yes. But I get the feeling it might just be a snake so scaly skin a no there.
I dunno I maybe find out tommorow.

The_Unforgiven: Thanx, not trying to boast (a lot) here, but it does seem to be a lot fairer than most home-made lists you see (Cathay and Nippon, i'm looking in your direction), the problem with quite a few people (not you Skandalix) is that they think of kewl stuff they want to be in the list and THEN try to link it together with the fluff, as opposed to making the fluff and then creating the units from there.

Skandalix: i have made most of the changes you suggested, but i'm being stubborn about the KB, the basilisk just eats you or crushes you, and the cobras strike at the points that kill instantly, and in their fluff, it says that they know exactly what you will do so they know where you will make yourself vulnerable
thanks for the compliment on the fluff , yes english is my first language, but after that, it's just limited french
I LOVE the name Scale-Weavers, I think it just fits SOO well for shape shifters
I had forgotten completely about the scaly skin saves, they are in now, and i missed out the large target rule on the basilisk, another accident

Tranquil_Death: In Greek mythology, the basilisk had like 6 or 8 legs, and so was a lizard. In Harry Potter, it was a fu...........rather large snake, but either way, I put in the scaly skin anyway. also, have a look at what i said to The_Unforgiven, sound familiar?

I have added in the poisons and some skills for you to ponder over, have fun, and be brutal, i have no emotions anyway (besides hate), i'm a druchii! ;)

first of all, thanx to everyone about the fluff, it's one of the things i enjoy doing the most, that and converting characters, although entire armies may be a little hard. The gorgons could easily be based off of witch elves though, with a little modelling on the hair.

kunja: Open Wound was priced off the Chaos weapon doing the same thing, and only affects multi-wound models remember, and if it seems underpriced, look at the should-be-110pts-more-expensive-weapon otherwise known as Ghal Maraz

I need more ideas for skills so get thinking thanx

I like the idea, and I like the fluff. Things I don't like:
Petrify. A little over-powered.
Shaman. Way too cheap, and I think he should be able to use a different lore, similar to (I think it was Skandlix's) Lore of Blood.

Good work, hope you can do more good work on the Angel list!

well, the shaman is there for the dispel dice more than the offensive power, and is cheap because he only has one, rather rubbish, lore. i am trying to not give them any lores apart from the ones in the rulebook. and if you think petrify is overpowered, have a look at the price of gorgons/hags and the basilisk

No, that's not mine...:P but I remeber it...really good stuff but have no memory for names...so don't know the author.

Sorry Khael Agath not answering much...but I really have hard time with school right now... But here are my new proposition:

1. maybe a unit of Wasps or Dragonflies?? i think they will fit to fluff and would differ from rest of army by stats...

2. maybe make special skill for cobra: hypnotic gaze or something... could forteil enemy attacks or something

3. ideas of new serpent gifts/poisons: Paralyzing venom (enemy may not strike next close combat phase if takes any wound), Long Agony (at end of combat roll d6 for any model which was wounded by owner of this skill, is dead unless rolled 4+), Scaly skin (nothing creative but should be there), Silent stalker (gains scout), Thermo-detection (can see through obstacles and into 4" of forest), Crawler (ignore penalties for difficult terrain)

more things soon...

i'll add some of those skills in, i take it the dragonflies would be either another swarm, or they would be huge dragonflies, what slot would they take up?
