Stuff it, Dralor. Yeah, dark elves have problems, but they'll get their revision, and they'll get it sooner then wood elves get their army book, not that it's the book I want, it's the models. I can wait, you can wait. Dark Elves are spoiled, if by nothing else, by being among the favorites. Out early, nice models. Put yourself in the shoes of a sisters player, or a nids player, or a wood elf player, or a chaos dwarf player. Did dark eldar need a revision? yes. How long did it take them to get it? a long bloody time. Are they getting it before sisters of battle even get a book to begin with? yeah.

Well, that's how it's going to be. Dark elves are going to be revised before certain less popular armies are released in the first place, but not before they finish off more of the books still to come. You shouldn't expect anything significant before khemri, lizzies, brets, and beastmen have been released.

As for your hatred of gav, I don't think the DE list is bad enough to merit your vile attitude towards a man who has done a lot of stuff (ie, dwarf book) fairly well. The main problem with the book is that it was done by somebody who not only doesn't play dark elves, but doesn't even feel motivated to do so. You should at least want to play the army you're designing, even if they aren't exactly at the top of your personal hobby priority list. I never got the feeling that gav really was that into dark elves, but I think he captured the feel of the army remarkably well for someone with that handicap.

Yeah, the list needs to be revised, preferably by someone who plays the army. They're not exactly broken, but they'll be changing soon enough. And just think, dark elves will most likely be one of the first new releases for 7th edition, and you can sure bet with all the controversy the pendulum will be picking up some extra momentum in it's return swing. That is, unless a major revision a mere year before the next edition makes DE too good, at which point you'll have to wait through another four to five years with a sub-par army book when the retaliation goes against us in early 7th.

Here's my big philosophical thing for the month. So let's get this over with.

I will admit that there are problems with the DE list. My two main arguments for this are the High Elf and Chaos magic weapons. The Druchii love to come up with very cruel ways of killing people, and the magic items don't reflect this. They should be very sinister - not necessarily doing huge amounts of damage but doing some very nasty things to the other person. An idea might be a sword of agony (a bit Slaaneshi, true). Always wounds on 3+ (given the sheer agony of it's blow) and any units that suffer unsaved wounds from it must take an immediate panic test with a -1 modifier to leadership. I figure that the Druchii love this sort of thing.

Another thing is that there is a supreme lack of good characters. Dark Elves have many varied and generally specialist troops. Their character choices should reflect this. For instance, a Witch Elf character is really in order. Executioner characters and Black Guard characters are probably necessary. Perhaps there can be certain traits you can give Nobles. There is something like this posted in Druchii Discussion, though I can't remember who said it. It was like giving them marks... sort of. And a BIG redo of the Beastmaster rules.

But the fact is, while these do need to be fixed (if only partially), you CHOSE this army. You decided that you wanted to collect the Warhammer army Dark Elves. If you don't like it, why in Khaine's name did you choose them? If you want some cooler magic items and stuff, what about High Elves? Chaos? Orcs and Goblins?

I collect Dark Elves because I like the general idea of them. I've always been a bit of an elf-phile, but I like evil MUCH better than good. I like my army very much (an all-cavalry army, loads of fun to get into close combat within two turns - you should have seen the face on the Lizardman guy). If you hate the rules so much and want Gav to die, then CHANGE ARMIES!!!

I personally love Dark Elves, and while they have their share of problems, I still collect them and like them. Maybe you should lighten up too. They're still lots of fun to play. If you get really cheesed off, maybe you can convince your opponent to play 5th edition rules.
Goodbye.

Ive collected DE for ages, before 6th edition. I like them for their fluff, but I also want better rules.

Completely and horrendously off-topic. Only forum that I see this could be used at would be ranting and raving, but it was deleted. Therefore, this thread is now closed.

Also Dralor, please do not make annoying posts anymore as the Ranting and Raving forum has been removed. Constructive posts are far more helpful than blatant flames.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
