Magic res and dangerous terrain
When a spell causes you to take a DT test and you fail, do you get the magic res save?

You do not. I assume here you mean curse of anraheir. Open ground is dangerous terrain --> you take a normal dangerous terrain test. The spell modifies your relation to the ground, but at the end of the day, it is the terrain that inflicts the wound on you, not the spell.

Agreed.
MR gives a ward save against damage caused by spells.
It does not protect against the stupidity of models who stumble and break their own necks. ;-)
