New Chat in TESTING...

I've put up a *new* chatroom. Yes, it is Java based and you will need Java to use it, but you are more than welcome to connect to the chatroom through any IRC program you wish. Here is the info:

The new chatroom is on a trial basis right now as I need to watch it closely and watch our bandwidth - I need to see if it eats a lot of it up or what... I don't think it should...

Improvements to the chatroom are forthcoming.
- Refined color sheme
- All of our beloved smilies!!!
- The color picker that all of you so desperately love...

Trying it out now. Seems very good. A bit sluggish of course but then it's java2 (pity its not java 1 but there you go)

Nice change from the glaring white of the Asur chat too. Once again, the asur cannot poke fun at us for not having a chatroom (I forget how long we had one before they did but high elves have short memories I guess)

Obviously I'll like it more once I have a colour picker and smilies but this is a good start - kudos to Kitrik once again - Code for the Code God

When I try to get into the chat I get this mesage: "Startup error: java.lang.Exception: Mandatory "name" parameter not provided". Is there some way that I could make it work for me?

Not sure what that means JohnTheDrow ... I changed something in the code though - try it again and let me know!!!

Again guys - you don't need to use our java chat, you are more than welcome to use mIRC or HydraIRC (recommended!)...

Great! Just what I wanted!

However, one thing Kitrik when you're at it. The highlight colour is darkened, that doesn't really make sense. It is supposed to be something that stands out, not something that you can barely make out what it says. Other then that and the things that is on its way, you've done a great work, Kitrik.

Same problem here. I think its my router, but I'm not sure. Maybe we need to forward a port or something like that?

Eh, i was SO happy to see that Chat back up. I was literally jumping outta my fricken chair! But sadly enough, i have to download java, and with the s***iest dial-up connection in the fricken world, i must say that it probably will take hours to download and if it takes that long, well I guess I won't be able to talk with you guys.

I minus well leave D-net too. I was hoping for chat too come back, i really did, but now this just stinks.

Of course, i haven't tried to download it yet, so, if the download is quick for dial-up please tell me.

If you cant handle Java and hate mIRC, I suggest XChat. Ive used it before in both Windows and Linux environments. It works perfectly. It's also available for Mac users but its called XChat Aqua. The download isnt large either. The Windows exe file is 1.64 MB large and thats nothing even for a dialup user...

I am not able to get on chat at the moment which is strange cos i was on it all last week. Today is the 17 feb so would someone tell me if its been like this all day or my comuter has died?

HOORAY! The chat in the hat comes back....meh...

But, alas, i can't get to it.
I had lots of problems, like the chat wouldnt connect me, it kept saying 'unable to connect: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused', so i downloaded java 1.5 (i think it is, i know its an older version), because i can't find java 2.
Then i downloaded mIRC. Now it keeps saying 'unable to resolve server' whenever i connect to irc.eu.gamesurge.net (i dont know where the eu came from, it entered it when i selected it from the list) and i cant get on it at all.

Someone please advise me as havent got a clue whats going on... !conf!

Sorry to post twice in a row, but there is 25 minutes between them...

I just want to say, my problem is outlined in more detail at the topic- 'the horor- I can't get onto the new chat' where others have given there ideas.

Plz help.

Kerith: If you're using a mIRC program, you'll need to take irc.gamesurge.net not any eu in it (could this be "Random European Server"?)

well I have to say that after tonight, I'm seriously wondering why I bother with the chat. Firstly I've been unable to connect either from d.net or asur.org, and even using chatzilla it wasn't working properly, with a bunch of us chatting to each other and another lot chatting to each other but each group unable to chat with the other.

I hate IRC, I really really hate irc
