well done games workshop (7th edition miniatures)

Post by Kinslayer »

this thread is not about the book that thread is here: http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?p=697525#697525

Today i received my long awaited models purchased on preorder from a guy who was buying and splitting multiple spearheads. I have the new sorceress on foot, assassin (spearhead version) and 5 cold one knights. As well as working on some dark riders ive spent the last three hours cleaning up the metals and assembling the new cold one knights. I must say, GW has outdone themselves once again. We druchii players may not receive all the attention we deserve but in these 3 models it just shows GW does have some love for us after all.

I think many of you with 7th edition models in front of you will agree with me, in a 'toast' to games workshop, and big well done on a spectacular miniature range ;)

... Well, I like the corsairs but apart from that I'm yet to be convinced of the goodness of our new models... Can you post some pictures of assembled (but unpainted) cold one knights and a close-up of the sorceress on foot?

I'm a fan of the new corsairs, knights and Hydra. I'll raise my glass to GW for creating those models (esp. the corsairs, my new favorite unit). The characters aren't bad in my opinion, they're just not my cup o' tea.

But again, hats off to GW.

Oddly enough, I didn't pin my hydra. I lost some of my tools and thus tried to get by with just greenstuff and zap a gap. I'm still astounded that it worked for me.

i am plseaed with the new de models, although still undecided on the foot hb.
the 2 new plastic sprues are great. i hope we get a 2nd wave of plastics to match these

but thre guy who put my speahead together must have been asleep as i am misisng the mounted sorceress body and got an extra foot hb body (no extra wepons tho) and am missing 1 neck and 1 with neck with head on the hydra so even if i go go the stumpy neck route i still dont have enough parts :(
and cause the models arent on general sle yet not sure who long it will take for them to send over replacements.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

I got my Spearhead today. I'm very pleased with them except I actually grimaced when I saw the 'Dong' helmet had made it into my spearhead (the helmet off one of the cold one knights).

Now all I need is the book.

I agree, the front two heads were a particular challenge with the necks ending right next to each other. Lovely big model though, it makes the old one look like a little pup.

The only thing I dislike about the cold one knights are the stupidly tall helmet adornments. Its not much of a problem to be honest I can use a few from the corsair sprue or perhaps something else from another kit.

The rest of the sprue is amazing. The fine detail is astonishing throughout.

M only major gripe is the 'legs stuck to mount' design of the sorceress and master. Whoever made the decision to do this should be smacked on the nose with a wet newspaper and be forced to convert the sorceress to sit on a steed or a bret peggy. Good luck finding some legs bud!

The rest of the models are universally great sculpts with very fine detail and great design ideas.

Apparently not. I'm not sure about other countries or states (or continents for this matter) but my local GW got the spearhead on July 19th and the book itself comes into our stores on August 2nd.

The different dates are standard for everyone. One of the reasons to get the Spearhead is supposed to be the fact that you get the book before people who don't get the Spearhead.

Yes I found those same heads a ruddy nuisance too.

Did anyone else notice that the pics in the Hydra construction leaflet are plastic or at least resin?!
There was a rumour ages ago that the Hydra would be plastic, anyone think it was originally supposed to be but changed to metal later on?

Khel. The spearhead comes with the book inside. If you got the spearhead without the book go to your GW and demand to get the merchandice you actually paid for.

I just wondered if we would get a army standard bearer in the near future, like for the 6th edition armydeal.. I guess we'll have to wait for that.

That 'rumour' crops up for a variety of models and model ranges. GW always makes resin casts early on to test out/work with the moulds.

They wouldn't have changed between the two since that would have required a complete redesign of the model's construction, particularly as it would no longer be on a plastic sprue.

So no new Dark Rider models? =/ I was half expecting a new CoB since it can now move...model has no wheels! Guess u could use the previous model thats on a cart.

Bit dissapointed to hear the mounted sorceress' legs are molded onto the cold one.

New models look phenomenal though.

Well it is now a War Machine. Technically, an Orc and Gobbo Rock Lobba can move just like the Cauldon. Yet that has no wheels either, and looks far to heavy for a few Gobbos to carry around. Or a Dwarven Bolt Thrower, also no wheels.

I think it's just a game mechanic, and if you look at the model it has little metal rings, presumably for attaching a chain and having some slaves pull it around.

Oh, and the new models blew me away. They were even better when I was holding them in my hand than in pictures online. Captain Topknot is actually a great sculpt, and the Assassin is holding a Rending Star! THe Sorceresses are both top knotch... I have no complaints on the models front.

I'm just thankfull Games Workshop stuck true with metal charecters and didn't just give us some crappy plastic general/bsb kits like the Empire.

@ Khel: was there not a sticker on the front of the box saying "Includes Warhammer Armies: Dark Elves Army Book"?

I think you should check very carefully what they said they would sell you because AFAIK the book should most definitely be in there.

Man, you had a screwed up box too? My Hydra is missing a neck, so I have to call customer service on Monday...

Oh well, the Cold One Knights have kept me busy until now... ;)

Alright, just found out today that our book wasn't actually coming till August 2nd, as I said and as my store had told me. I didn't have a sticker on my box saying new book or anything, I'm not missing any pieces but still.

Hydra neck missing? Wow, that's really annoying.

But we can't always expect perfection.

I was excited about the new miniatures (despite my usual problems trying to work with GW's super glue - at the moment my two favorite lead miniatures in the batch are the beastmaster that comes in one piece, and the assassin who also comes in one piece ;) )...

until just now when I finally decided to figure out how the necks all attach on the hydra. It was then that I realized that something went wrong and my hydra body isn't fully formed.

I got my spearhead on friday, and even though I`ve been following rumours closely, I was very much plesantly surprised by the quality of the new models. The only problem, asides form the odd top-knot and bone-through-the-hair, is that the legs, heads of the corsairs and torsos seem a bit large. I haven`t assembled any models yet, but is there a "scale creep" or is it just my imagination?
