shades as a bodyguard unit for a lvl 4

Post by Cougar_roger »

Has anyone tried this before?

A unit of 8 shades as a bodyguard unit for a lvl 4, with the Ring of darkness, and either lifetaker or a black staff?

I'd appreciate some feedback

I don't really like the idea as it stops the Shades from scouting and puts the Sorceress on foot. The shades will then become prime targets, when otherwise they didn't have much threat and would be ignored.

the ring of darkness cuts the BS in half so anything with WS 4 is hitting this unit on 7's in turn 1, and 6's after that. How much WS 3 is hitting on the same I believe. How much shooting would you want to allocate to that unit when your hitting it on 6's?

The Shades also wouldn't be very good bodyguards if just about anything charges them she will probably get killed anyway.

Yeah too risky an investment to be worth it. Makes an already good unit into a point sink that isn't actually that hard to kill. Even a simple unit of knights or possibly even fast cav could take them out in CC.

So yes very good against shooting but very vulnerable to lots of other things. I prefer to have my lvl 4 flying around on a peg instead.

It would work if you also have a BSB with the Hag Graef banner and you could also put the pendant on the SS to challange any big nasties.

Lvl 2 maybe. Not Lvl 4. Put her on something that flies/ big unit of CR that can protect her in combat.

the reason I'm thinking about this is my uncanny ability to get my general killed in the final turns of the game that ultimately decides the game. The tournament I played in this weekend she was put in a unit of 10 RXB's. I have used her on a pegasus before but couldn't cut the points elsewhere to get it in the list.
