The Battalion Box content.

Post by Alexlabrute »

Hello,

omg first of all, thanks for this forum, what a great ressource for a new guy in this hobby.

I had a question about warriors in battalion.

It says 16 RxB guys and 12 warriors with spears and shield.
Are there enough pieces to make 20 RxB ?

Because I'd like to field 2 units of 10 rxb ( one big line, lots of fire)
and would have to have to buy a box of warrior for 4 crossbows.

I know the warrior box can make either crossbows or spearmen, was wondering if battalion was the same.

Thanks !

Hey, welcome to d.net.

I don't think you can make 20 rxbs unfortunately, unless you are creative and have the last 4 guys as command and 1 random chappie!

Unfortunately Battalion consists of what it says on hte box.
There are 16 crossbows and 12 spears... I believe there are only 12 shields so you can't even have crossbows with shields.

The benefit though is that you basically get a unit of corsairs free.

That's not true, you can indeed build 20 RxB with the battalion-box (there are really not enough shields in the box though, but you can buy shields extra)

If there aren't enough crossbows, you would probably want to buy another Warriors box anyways... 12 spearmen is a paltry amount.

who do I pick on 1st? the sprues used for the warriors in the box are the SAME as the battalion... you could make all 28 guys rxb! when would GW retool a standardized, long and best selling plastic in WHFB?(yes they do it to 40k, but that be another tale...)

I bought two Batallions and a bunch of shields, then made them up however I felt. Their `recommended' kit-out is purely because there are only 12 shields, and clearly `no one' uses shields on their crossbowmen ;)

Yeah, the later posts are right, you have whatever you like on the warriors, crossbows or spears, the only restriction is the number iof shield your given...though I only used mine on the outer ranks of a big block of spearmen.

Well, not ALL of them have to have shields... 12 shields would be plenty to give both front ranks (5x2) shields, or have them dispersed throughout if in a single line.

Personally, I don't model my RxBmen with shields, but I give them shields in the armylist anyways...

I made shields (attached to the movement tray) out of balsawood for my xbows - that should help out a bit with the shield probs.

I've made two markers with shields on them to show that the rxbmen have shields if they have them. If not, I do not use the marker :lol:

I don't know if you want to convert Dark Riders, but if you want that then you can use the shield from the warriors box :P . That is if you are going to convert them from warriors and glade riders...
Else, well you can give the front ranks shields and that makes clear that you gave them shields ;) .

Thread previously titled: regarding warriors in battalion box.

Okay, to get rid of 'what's in battalion box questions?' I decided to settle things once and forever:

I'm opening battalion box.

Product Code: 99 12 02 12 004
85-13

Box contains:

-7 complete Warrior sprues, which means: 28 Warrior's torsos and legs, 28 RXB arms, 35 spears, 7 Command sets, 42 helmeted heads;

-complete Cold One Knights sprues - total of 5 Knights;

-2 complete Corsair sprues - total of 20 Corsairs;

-3 complete shield sprues - 12 shields,

-5 cavalry bases,

-48 20x20mm flat square bases

-Cold One Knights, Warriors & Corsairs assembly guides, same as in boxes, one of each.

***

So it is possible to make 28 Warriors with RXB or 28 Warriors with Spears, combination of both or even 7 full Command Groups, BUT only 12 Warriors can be equipped with shields. If one wants to make more than 12 shield wielding Warriors, one must buy more shields from adequate source.

Causa finita forever. Any battalion box content regarding thread will be locked.

Thats a very good idea, like they left them behind their line while they operate their crossbows and if someone comes too close thy can pick them up ready for close combat, might have to borrow it off you if its ok.

so how does one actually buy shields? I've ordered 2 batallion boxes and I want to make 26 spearmen or so, and the rest of them so that I have 30 crossbowmen. But I want them ALL with shields so that the crossbowmen can function as units of 10 elves with a 4+ armor save and a rank, a pretty good unit to flank with.

But where or where can I buy loose shields?

Oooor, you can buy a box of warriors which contains 16 warriors with 16 shields. Just like it was before the battalion box came round.
