So im going to play my mate in a few days against his VC. niether of us have played much WH so hes going to hi tme with a real cheap VC list, or i think it is:
vampire lord - abyssal terror, dreadlance, red fury, walking death, avatar of death and wristbands of black gold: 525
vampire - avatar of death, flying horror: 150
vampire - avatar of death, flying horror: 150
vampire - avatar of death, blood drinker: 160
10 ghouls: 80
10 ghouls: 80
20 zombies: 80
5 dire wolves: 40
19 grave guard FC: 258 (blood drinker in here)
20 grave guard FC: 270
4 cairn wraiths and banshee: 275
varghulf: 175
total: 2243
his lord is basically the man, 8x S7 hits first combat round with 20" charge, 2 other vamps with fly t.t. and can raise zombies infront of my units to slow me down, 20 skirmishing ghouls, fast wolves on the flank, 39 GG who cna march due to the vamp with blood drinker in them, and then these wraiths who cant be killed cept by magic/magic weapons. Ouch!!
what would you guys recommend vs this? ive got lots of units so i could make any DE army i want really. magic heavy? faster than normal? also is it possible to get and cheaper than this lol.

This is his weakness.
Shoot him off there (Abyssals aren't any harder than our Manticores so hopefully you can get the vampire off before the beastie dies).
4 Bolt Throwers and liberal use of flee as charge reaction will put some scare into his vampires (if he charges a vampire out of a unit... flee, don't care about other things, flee. and make his vampire stuck in the open without unit to protect him)
Heavy Magic and shooting would be the way to go I think, with dark riders and harpies to hopefully draw the vampires out (if he has a unit of harpies between his vampire and the intended target, but too far for the whole unit to reach... he just might take the bait)

Also, given that both of them are toughness 5, a collection of enough RXB shots should really leave them uncomfortable. Especially against a ward save like that, large target so pretend you are hitting half the time because i like to work with easy numbers. Then of those say 20 guys multishotting, 20 hit, 3 wound... OK, so given the number of wounds they each have, that might be harder than I thought, but whatever you are shooting, my golden rule is shoot till it is dead then move on to the next target, nothing is more annoying than never finishing off a whole unit of undead because they just keep raising back up.

Assassin with manbane and throwing stars in a unit like 25 spears with warbanner should scare those vamps.. or assassins kitted up for combat and killing blow.
Bolt throwers should do well, as should a hydra.. im not sure if it could take a charge from that vamp lord but I would risk it.
ASF black guard cheese should be able to take on any of those vamps. Maybe a dreadlord with POK and executioners axe.

If you're lucky enough a hydra can take a charge from anything as long as that something doesn't have flaming attacks and/or overwhelmind SCR.
My Hydrae have on their snack menu stuff like Asur Star Dragon Prince (took a while) or a block of Tomb Guard with Tomb King, unit of Khemri Chariots and Tomb Swarms all at the same time.
It's a matter of passing those regeneration rolls, CoB helps by adding the ward save
