First post! Using units from other armies

Post by Khartis »

Hello, everyone.

Sorry in advance if I've broken any rules, I couldn't see any similar posts and thought someone might like to help.

I'm playing in a campaign where the rules allow for some use of units from other lists (at some expense!). So I'd like to ask everyone; if you had the choice of any unit to add to your DE army:

- What would it be?
- Roughly what kind of army list would you put it in?
- How would you utilise it during battle?

The fluff from my storyline is heading towards a Slaanesh cult angle, so I'd be most interested in Chaos units, though this isn't essential. Lord-level units are definitely out, as I only get one for the campaign and it has to be DE.
As an example, my friend who has a dwarf army is buying a dwarven war-mammoth model and using the stats for a Lizardmen Stegadon!

And if you want to check out the stories from our campaign, you'll find them at http://pretenders.wiki.zoho.com/. The rumours are that Jervis Johnson is a fan!

Hmmm interesting. Fluff wise I'm sure some Slaanesh marked Chaos Knights would work....

The power gamer in me immediately thinks of either a Skaven Abomination, 6 Daemon Flamers or perhaps a unit of Plague Censer Bearers. Or if you are already running a hydra and another big nasty I'd think about the Steam Tank.

Fluffwise, some Chosen Knights of Slaanesh of Daemonettes could work. Or even some Dragon Princes that swayed to the cult of Slaanesh.

As for "most effective", most things from the daemon army book. A decent sized pegusus knight unit (you could model it with dark elf knights riding pegs). Maybe the steam tank but that's kind of lame fluffwise.

I like the peg knight idea cause they'd go well with a mobile/mounted army.

I'll go with some VC models. My friend and I played a game recently versing against DoC, and WoC. It was a good game love my friends VC models and some of the rules, though you can't take a VC lord...that makes some problems but thats just my $0.02 :)

I definitely agree that Warriors of Chaos or Daemons devoted to Slaanesh would look and feel the "best" of all the possibilities out there. A Cauldron of Blood plus a Chaos War Altar, allowing either Warriors, Chosen, Knights, Cold One Knights, ASF Black Guard/Execs, etc. to gain both bonuses would be appallingly effective, though perhaps a bit contradictory in terms of fluff. Fiends and a Keeper would be beastly as well.

In terms of other powerhouse single-units, I would consider a Hell Pit Abomination or Flamers as Azure mentioned, or else a good-sized unit of Cairn Wraiths with Banshee.
There is no escape from Chaos. It marks us all.

It's a shame that lord level characters are out, as my immediate thought would be a Daemon Prince of Slannesh, bound and made obedient by Morathi.

Maybe a shaggoth? One of those fell dragon ogre monarchs strayed too far into the mountains and was caught by a Druchii raiding party. It could be goaded into battle like a hydra with twin beastmasters behind it (although they probably would have to be models only, rather than actual playing characters!)
