What is your basic list and what do you have at your disposal? We could give you general options, but you will get much more help if you could enlighten us a little bit on your army.

Well I don't have a standard list but normally i bring the following with me:
One Hydra
One unit DE Warriors + assassin.
One CoC
One unit of BG

Not a big fan of magic.
So normally i take all fighter characters.

Bolt Throwers = dead monster.

No seriously, this is the easiest and fastest way to get rid of it. Take a pair and your troubles will go away (or at least hide behind terrain all game).

Beastmen monsters have no armour... even repeater crossbows will deal with them.

If I remember correctly, all the beastmen rare choices have no saves, just T6. Since it is a large target, a unit of 10 rxbs will be firing twenty shots against it which should be enough to put a few wounds on it. Personally, I deal with large monsters such as this by taking the aforementioned crossbows and 2 RBTs like desert icon suggested. Generally, your opponent will get so scared that he will hide the large target behind terrain the whole game, which effectively negates the threat. If he doesen't hide, you can put wounds on it with your shooting, and finish it off with a CC hard hitter. (COK, ROK/manbane assassin, etc...)

Ok, I have another battle against him the day after tomorrow.

I'll bring some shooting this time.
See how that goes.

I usually take the rending stars/manbane assassin with scouts to deal with monsters. Its been pretty effective so far.

I killed Giant more than 10 times with single RXB DR units, 2 times in one turn.

That monster is same as Giant, doesn't it? T6 no save?I wouldn't waste RBT on it. Corsairs, RXB, Shades, 2x DR would do.

Gorgon - T6, 6 w
Giant - T6, 6 w
Jabberyslythe -T5 5 w

all of these can be taken by mass bowfire. at long range you're hitting on 4+ so should be able to do 1-2 wounds. A rending star/manbane assassin can quite easily get 2-3 wounds.

Bolttrowers are another option but i've so far managed to take off these down with 20 bowmen, 7 shades and a rending star assassin in the space of 2-3 turns. You just need to concentrate the fire.

You don't want to take a Jabbery in combat cause everywound you cause you suffer a str5 hit back.

The Jabberslythe has no save. I charged an assassin with one and the Jabberslythe was torn apart.

Before giving advice, it's generally a good idea to know what you're talking about.

To clarify:
Jabberslythe, Cygor, Chaos Spawn, Giant: Toughness 5, no armor, ward or Regeneration.

Ghorgon: Toughness 6, no armor, ward or Regeneration.

As Bies mentioned, going after it in close combat with any type of Character or small unit can be dangerous due to the Poison Blood rule which rebounds hits back to the model that caused wounds. I definitely agree that massed repeater crossbow, rending star, lifetaker and bolt thrower fire are the best ways of dealing with the Jabber. Not only do you avoid it in combat, but shooting it (rather than charging it) is the event that's more likely to occur. After all, it's not easy to get the charge against a flying monster, but it's definitely easy for Shades, Dark Riders and bolt throwers with their 360 degree line-of-sight and/or high mobility to be able to target it.

Just played him again and he brought the same list as the last time.

I brought a unit Warriors with an assassin (which ran off the table due to panic from the jabber....)
WE + ASF BANNER
Hydra
Shades
Harpies
CoC
...

The Witch Elves won the battle for me.
First time I used a Death Hag and CoB
And I love them.
Hydra did great as allways

Although he didn't attack the CoB it has really nice defense!
And it helps you win or hold the battle.

Have to admit that jabbers arn't that strong in CC.
Ofc he shoudn't have brought it into close combat.
He should have kept flying around/over me.

BTW it was a masacre!
Thx for the info.

Ya tbh that Jabberslythe is the one I'm the least scared of. It gets torn up by RXBs and pretty much any shooting. If you have a lifetaker on someone, or rxb from pretty much anything. A rending stars assassin that flies also is perfect.

I'm not really sure how any Dark Elf list can be afraid of a Jabberslythe.

It's as already mentioned T5, W5 with no saves.
Just Shoot/Magic it and finnish it (if you can catch it) with a Hydra/CoK/CoC.

Yes, the rebound S5 hits are nasty, but that's about the only thing that's really scary about it in close combat. (4 WS4 S5 poisoned attacks isn't really 'that' scary.)

How do you deal with any flying terrorcauser?
Apply the same tactics against the Jabberslythe and you should be fine.

Anything that shoots can take it down.
It lacks armour, so it's not much harder than killing our own manticores... and everyone who ever played one knows that can happen in an instant...

RBTs can disspose of it in one turn if you are lucky.

As with everything else: Keep throwing bolts at it - eventually, it Will die! It's a fast target, so I suggest you try to take it down ASAP.
And remember, Focus Fire!

You worry about the Jabbery cause the flying terror and the leadership you need to test every magic phase suffering a wound for every point you fail by if I remember correctly.

Also it's str5? missile tongue attack can really hurt solo characters in the open.

Hit's on 5+ on short range, 6's on long range though.

(BS4 - moving, single target, (long range.)

True but if within short, you're going to get terror bombed, leadership attack thingy and probably within a charge arc. If you're gettin hit by that tongue you know you're not in a healthy position!

I'd still hit it with the assassin. 146 pt model sacrificed to kill a 200+pt model seems like a fair trade to me

IMHO playing the trading game doesn't work. You want to kill things without offering any points return. But I do see your point.

I'm not really that afraid of Terror when I play Dark Elves so it's not really a big issue. (same with the Jabber's AoEthingy.)

But then I'm also a big fan of Dreadlords, so Ld10 for the win.

I played a 2 v 2 game recently with me and my ally versus 2 beastmen armies. My opponent ran a Jabberslythe behind my lines in the first turn or two and my ally asked me "how are you going to take care of the Jabberslythe?". As I had no melee or magic troops (I was playing a very hard hitting infantry and cavalry melee army) I replied "I'm not, I'm just going to ignore it".

It did a weird tongue pokey thing a few times at me (which did basically no damage) and otherwise just sat there for the rest of the game. We won with a massacre.
