Black Dragon Egg & Focus Familiar

Has anyone tried placing a Sorceress in a Warrior bunker and using the Focus Familiar with the Black Dragon Egg?

I'm trying to figure out if I'd want to place the Sorceress in the Front rank so she can use the Close Combat version of BDE or if i wanna place her safely in the center and then just use the breath attack as ranged when they engage a unit (or before they are in combat).

Depending on the units being faced, the ranged version can be alot more devastating, but the big kicker is the wounds wouldn't count toward Combat Resolution

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
