Check it out guys. Brutality!

if you don't feel like reading the entire magic paragraph, anything with pod is -2, sac dagger is -1 per spell (assume that includes pod, so -2 for a l1 and -3 for a l2, etc)

Looks like they are going to be redoing it for 8th ed anyway. That comp isnt too bad for 7th ed.

The whole idea of a comp system seems dumb to me. No comp system can ever hope to achieve perfect balance among the armies, so all it really does is move the balance point. Meaning, certain armies are extremely tough without comp, then when the comp system is applied, other armies become a little more powerful. You will still have the tough lists no matter what is applied. Anyway, it basically seems like Socialism to me, but to each their own I guess.

Comp systems are usualy not for dealing with strong armies, but for trying to avoid unballanced armies with to much shotting or magic. The kind of army that either looses bad or win big depending on the oppents armycomposition.

Or to force army composition down a particular path so all the armies look similar and bland.

If I want to make a full cavalry force army why do I have to include a unit of at least 20 infantry models with a banner or be penalized for it? (not this comp specifically, didn't read it. But comps in general)

I read some of this.
-2 For each 5% of points spent on magic items, gifts, and powers (rounded up) after the first 5%. 2000=100. means... you can get 2 small banners, and something on a master. thats all.

A Hydra IS a Monstrous Creature. Is it a -4?

With the random rolls on Winds of Magic wth would the -1 die for dispel or casting die items be good for?

how many units in general DON'T have 12" or greater Shooting or Magic? Combine this w/ the "no taking more than % of your point total"? and you get double death!

Who in the world would PLAY this Tourney?! what were they smoking when they made these up??

Comp systems always make me laugh. I am curious how all the comp freaks will "balance" 8th without having played it much. Maybe a penalty for taking big infantry blocks?

They must really hate Brets... that Ward save penalty applies to most of their army!

So oryxwild, where do most gamers in your area fall in terms of comp? My Dragon/Hydra list scored a 19 under that system, and a couple of very minor tweaks could easily bring it up by a few points (removing a single magic item, or removing 2 or 3 shooting models, for example.)

Hey all!

Nemesis1020 have you ever played in a comp tourney?

Whilst I agree with your comment that no comp system will never be achieve perfect balance it is none the less IMO a good way of still of at least attempting to balance out the 'hard armies' from the 'soft armies' at tournaments and I don't think its dumb at all.

I've been playing with the Darkies since thier inception and 7th ed Darkies were in Australia on par in terms of comp with Daemons and Vampire counts. Why?

Because they are armies in which a relativley 'average list' was still 'harder' than say a tooled up Orc and Goblin list.

The idea behind comp is that those power gamers who want to take tooled up Darkies, Vampire Counts, Daemons or even Empire, Dwarf (gunline anyone) lists have to really win games and win them big to offset the weaker armies comp jump.

Now if you do play in a comped tourney enviroment and u are getting spanked with the comp stick the solution is simple: Win you games convincingly.

The comp score not only reflects the (obvious) composition of your army but also how easy or hard it will be for you to win games with said army.

But perhaps the most important aspect in which comp is in place (at least for Australian tourneys) is that its supposed to make games both challenging and fun for both you and your opponent by trying to level out the playing field.

However some lists do slip through the cracks. There is no denying this.
Just have a look at my sig. This was an army I played againt at a tourney in January this year. Now would you ilke to play this army? Would it be a fun game?

The guy was a to$$er and I hope I never play him again.

Summary: Comp is in effect a balancing tool to level the playing field and while not perfect does for the most part do its job from in trying to bring some structure, fairness and enjoyment for tournaments.

Cheers!

Actually, contrary to what it says on the site, this IS the 8th ed comp list. It just appeared yesterday, and I guess he hasn't changed it yet. I'm not sure where people fall within this comp, since it just appeared. Under the old system, most people ran at or near full comp. This is because comp is a pretty huge factor in battle score, and having a high comp and winning only two games would still beat a 3 game win with low comp. Two and a tie would beat a 3 game win with medium comp. Essentially, if you wanted to compete you had to have decent comp to even HOPE to win best general or overall...

I'm not actually sure I'm going to play the tournies, since I don't like the game as much as I thought I would and none of my models are painted rofl! My friends are quite upset, though. Especially my skaven friend. Units with more than 40 models rofl...

I'm joining the tourney. I have only 2 units of 60 Corsair and Crossbowmen, 2 Supreme Sorcs and 2 Dreadlords. and 4 Hydras. Just to watch them pull out the calculators.

srsly. There is an independent tourney, and I'm running a fairly powerful list for it. Not maxed out, but definitely on the powergaming side of darkies. If I ran it in this tourney, it would comp a -24 rofl.

Here it is:

supreme sorc with sac dagger and pok
dreadlord with blood armor, reroll trinket and CD

bsb with AoD
sorceress with tome

2 hydras

50 corsairs, sss
50 spears, ap banner
20 xbows
