Does anyone use this item anymore?

Personnally i feel like 55 pts is alot for a bound item. But i kinda like the idea about surprisingly casting a bound PoD with your last PD just to get more dices and throw another spell into the enemys face.

But with the new rules it kinda seems unrealistic that someone would bring this item into a game.

Sac. Dagger or DSC seems like a far better and cheeper choice? or is it just me?

No, I think you are completely right.

I consider it completely worthless in this edition.

The fact, that you need to spend PD now to power it makes it really bad.

It was overpriced in 7th ed, totally pointless in 8th ed. Just ignore it :)

I loved the thing in 7th Ed. but do not use it in 8th.

I like the general concept of the item since it can multiply your power dice. However, it's not really cost effective. In order to use it reliably, you have to use 2 power dice. Sometimes you'll get 4 back (netting you 2), sometimes it will wash out (recover the 2 dice you used), but overall, it will average out to 1 extra power die per phase.

For that benefit, you can take the Darkstar Cloak for 25 points. No brainer on that one, not to mention the Sacrifical Dagger.

Exactly. For 10-20 points I would consider it, but for more than 20, no way.

at least it doesn't stop your mage from casting further spells if it fails. So it kinda can be used with the one die risk factor early on in your casting phase.

Problem is that since it's a bound spell, you don't add your casting level to the roll. So if you roll on 1 die, you will fail 2 out of 3 times. And if you do get a 5 or 6, chances are your opponent will dispel and only use 1 die to do it.

Its power level is 4 isn't it? Regardless, bad, bad, bad magic item now.

It used to be good, now it's horribly overpriced (as are most bound spells).

Still, it's just not as bad off as that one off random spell bound item Empire has... you can get a spell with 10+ casting value and actually have to use dice for it.

Completely redundant item now

I wouldn't write it off as 100% redundant. I agree it wasn't as great as back in 7th, it's power level 4 so you still have a 50% chance of succeeding. There's been many instances where I wished my mage could use PoD again after the first got dispelled. But yea, point cost needs to be scaled down for 8th ed haha.

It's not just the points cost that makes it redundant, it's also the lack of having one of the other excellent items. Focus Familiar, Darkstar Cloak, Tome of Furion, and last, but certainly not least, the Sacrificial Dagger. All of these are much better choices before even considering points cost.

If there was a draft for arcane items, it'd be about the 9th pick. Not a dreadful item, just not as useful as points spent elsewhere.
