Indeed Meteor - right back at everyone who's rated any unit poorly - actually, that was the entire point of my first contribution to this thread :)

You've got a point there. I think what helps more is that people state who they played against and what they've found useful against those armies. I've had situations where I wished I had taken RBT, and cursed my hydra for being useless.

You can make anything work, if you know how (well, almost anything) and I like all-comers lists better than tailored ones, because by nature, some armies can provide more options for min-maxing against certain enemies than others. Just think of eldar - if an eldar player has all units at his disposal, and knows who he'll play against, then the match will be in favour of the eldar player. This works for dark elves as well, because we have so many different units, and the only thing we really lack is something like 100 model-units that just sit there, not dying.
When I think of something witty, I shall put it here.

Went to 2 tournaments in 8ed and ended up 2nd in both with a msu style dark elf list.

3x 17 warriors
3x 5 harpies
2x 10 rxb

2x 5 cok
3x coc
2x 5 witch elf

5 shades ehw

2x hydra

master pegasuss cloak of hag graef
cualdron bsb

lvl 2

the best units is by a good margin the cok with cualdron support
the next most important units for me is the harpies, followed by the hydras.

all the rest exept the rxbs performe good on a regular basis.

I've played a few games with DE in 8th ed.

My big unit of cold one knights has been awesome along with my 2 hydras and my lvl 4 on dp with lore of death. I must admit although i am beginning to see the point of view of people who think blackguard are awesome i still struggle to se why you would use them. They are very very fragile and extremely expensive against some armies i guess they might be worth it but i play skaven most by far and bg will never ever make their points back against them.

So far, 5 games for 4 solid victories and 1 massacre!
- Against my nemesis, daemons, I won twice.
- Dwarf with lot of warchines
- Beastmen. 6 minotaures got slaughtered by my WE
- VC with dragon.

It looks like that there is a common pick on the most valuable unit: A stunning unit of 10-12 COK!

Otherwise, my other MVU are: 24 execs and 24 WE (3 ranks of 8)

Underperforming units: shades, harpies

I haven't fielded yet the double hydras combo, neither my 20 black guards!!!
