Ark Pirate Theme

So I am building an army. I am not overly concerned with the list being highly competitive, just want it to be fun. I already have the "warhost of Naggaroth" box, four sets of the old (16 model) DE warriors, a box of cold one knights (2003 release), 2 bolt throwers, a dreadlord on cold one, two additional boxes of corsairs, 6 shades, Lokhir Fellheart, and 2 sorceress'. All told, looking at 40 dark shards, 44 deadspears (or blackguard), 30 corsairs and Lokhir, 9 cold one knights and a cold one dreadlord, a cold one chariot, 6 shades, 2 bolt throwers, a fleet master, supreme sorceress, and a sorceress.

Want to add a kharibdyss to the mix and some warlocks as well, eventually witches and a cauldron, too. Obviously I don't imagine ever seeing most of this fielded at once. Plan on running corsairs and Lokhir with spears, cold one knights, kharibdyss as a fluff list with the warlocks, witches, and cauldron being the "srs business" list.

Any thoughts on what to do expansion or tactics wise? Money isn't really an issue and I definitely don't mind losing, as long as the list fielded is fun. I haven't started putting the models together yet, only have had time to wash them (finishing some space Marines) but when I get them started expect regular progress reports on the Conclave.

Fluff has always described Dark Riders as the advance scouts of black ark raids, sowing fear and confusion ahead of the onrushing army. I would definitely grab some of them. Other than that, I'd get a few more bolt throwers, they're the "deck guns" of black arks as well. Additionally, I have always seen assassins as a "fun" dark elf entry, and if being competitive or not isn't terribly important to you, that's another consideration. But in the end, what is "fun" is highly subjective and only you can really decide what that is in your particular case.

Beyond that, the list of stuff you have is pretty good. I hope that helps.

That actually does help. I was hemming and hawing on whether or not to grab some dark riders, now I believe I will. With Lokhir in the lineup, assassin but comes less important to me. Thinking of topping out at 4 bolt throwers as chaff clearing/monster wounding annoyances.

Dark riders are wonderful.

Shield for a 4+ AS, Xbow for ranged shooting, str 4 on the charge ASF and 9 movement, mmmmm

What advice would best be heeded with regard to running corsairs? I plan on running about 30 with Lokhir. Need a cauldron? Anything at all?

Just my $0.02...

A large unit of Corsairs won't need a cauldron, but they will need some magic support to be competitive against other races' elite forces. With Lokhir, you also have a half-decent chance to trigger Show No Weakness and thus make the unit Unbreakable.

When flanked by a chariot (preferably a Scourgerunner, but either will work) or a Kharibdyss, you would still have a fairly characterful unit with a lot of survivability and a solid "Black Ark Fleet" theme.

Yeah a cauldron is a waste on them, in my opinion. A big unit of them is best served by full command and extra hand weapons. Since it's a fairly survivable unit (for us, anyway), it might also be a good bunker for your BSB if you are taking one (you should)

Thanks for the advice. Have a kharibdyss and a chariot. Planned on making the chariot cold one, haven't heard a lot of good things about the scourgerunner. Any particular reason to take a scourgerunner over cold one chariot?

Fluff. Look.
Tactically speaking, the speed is nice, the ability to deter an opponent's monster is nice too.
Still, COK are easier to play.

I like the SR ridden by a BM, which is more accessible now with the ability to take up to 50% on lords. Incredible shooting ability, and the BM also improves a nearby hydra or K-beast.

Can you show us an army list of your theme? I'm also interested. Calisson, what do you mean with SR ridden by a BM?

Scourgerunner Chariot ridden by a High Beastmaster.
