Need ideas for a bsb manticore build

Post by Koller »

As the title says, I need ideas/inspiration for a BSB manticore build :)

Personally i think:
Manticore with ironhard skin
Master with lance, dragonbane gem, charmed shield, OTS.

With a BSB like that, the master will die to the second thing that hits him... And with a big base, you're gonna attact all the fire your opponent has. I'd sooner go steady and safe: charmed shield + talisman of preservation. The manticore is still vulnerable - such is the curse of our ridden monsters - but at least the BSB will make it :p

Its for 2MD tournament, with those evil restrictions, i talked with Nygren at faraos test tournament, and he liked the manticore build because you can reduce its cost. but agree i like 4++ on him also xD

As the Manti draws fire and the rider is easy to kill, I think investing in defence is a good way to go. Manti has TStomp and KB for offensive goodness anyway :)

Few nice options:

-> Cloak -- Spell and missile protection, plus offensive bonuses
-> AoD -- 4++
-> Charmed Shield/ToP -- 4++ / 2++
-> Dawnstone/OTS -- re-roll AS, force enemy ward re-roll
-> Dawnstone/PoS -- re-roll AS, one use high S

Though I have read of others having tournament success with very light and cheap Manticore builds (i.e. just Luckstone); these lists usually have a lot of target saturation though.

Indeed. But they help keep the rider alive :)

Generally if and when I field a MantiMaster (nvr fielded a manti BSB) I just make him full offense with the Obsidian Blade.
But other then your build i cant think up of any better defensive builds

I find the more agressive builds more effective, as in combat the enemy will most of the times concentrate his attacks at the Manticore because of the Thunderstomp, more KB attacks and Terror + Movement it provides and you cannot improve protection for the Manticore against enemy shooting.

If manticore is hit by enemy warmachines like cannons he will likely die, so at least take a charmed shield.

Personally I now prefer the Cloak of Twilight as it provides great defence outside combat, while offense extra's in combat, and as hits are allocated to manticore BSB master does not miss the ward save in combat.

Im gonna have some test games with the manticore BSB. right now i try to find out what he can handle and what not.
I will try to make him so cheap as possible or maybe giving him the obsidian blade.

my plan is to combo charge with another unit or my pegasus lord.

I'm personally a fan of the Cloak of Twilight + Lance build. You're as protected as you're going to get against shooting/magic, and he becomes a Swiss Army Knife that can threaten many different unit types.

ToP and Charmed Shield also a nice option. Much more limited offensively IMO.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.
