SCGT2015!

Any Dnetters planning on attending this year?

I'm currently waiting to see the comp before I decide between Lizards (the old relibable) or Dark Elves (good looking, but not yet done). Super-hyped!

I'm thinking about the west coast GT or the Broadside Bash but I don't think I'll be at the So Cal GT.

Comp is out!

Dark Elf specific restrictions:

Power$Pool (max5)
• Doom fire Warlocks
• 10+ Doomfire Warlocks (additional to above restriction) F
• Morathi (counts as 3)
• Cloak of Twilight
• Each Black Dragon after the first
• Each Dark Rider unit after the 2nd
• More than 15 dark riders in the army
• More than 2 Bolt Throwers
• Each Mounted Master or Dreadlord not on manticores after the 2nd
• Each Master or Dreadlord mounted on a Dark Pegasus after the first in addition to the
above restriction

Soft$Pool
• Scourgerunner Chariot (Max 1)
• Character on Manticore (Max 1)
• Hellebron
• Malus Darkblade
• Black Ark Fleet master (Max 1)
• Lokhir Fellheart
• Tullaris Dreadbringer
• 15+ Sisters of Slaughter
• High Beastmaster (Max 1)
• Bloodwrack Shrine
• Bloodwrack Medusa (max 1)
• 30+ Bleakswords(Max 1)
• 30+ Dreadspears (Max 1)
• War Hydra (Max 1)
• Khadribyss (Max 1)

Hasn't changed too much from last year, except for tightening up the rules around mounted characters a little, and the big whack on Morathi. Honestly, I think that Dark Elves get away with a bit of murder by getting two mounted characters, or one mounted Pegasus, before taking a comp penatly - whereas the Lizardman comp hits mounted Scar-Vets and Oldbloods on the first 2, then applies 2 hard comp for each one after that.

Plugging my indicative list comes out at a 1, which isn't terrible, but given the importance of secret missions (essentially more important than winning the game plus tie breakers), I'd like to get that up higher.

First draft will be over on the army lists section for C&C shortly!

Some room for work here :)

I'll be there - took 3rd a few years ago with Dark Elves and not taken DE back there since.

Having said that, I'm currently looking at a Host of the Aesterion list that comps me a 5, but I think can compete in every phase and has multiple fast banners for the scenarios

How are you finding the comp on that?

I like that Fast Cav has to have more than one rank to count as a scoring unit, as mobile banners seem to be favoured too much in some event fortitude scenarios (eg Blood and Glory), at the expense of slower infantry.

Tough to be honest.

I have c180 points left to spend on a unit with a banner.

The main two options I've been considering are 5 Cold Ones with +1 move

12 White Lions, Gleaming Pennant

Maybe not that heroic...... The comp kind of pushes you towards at least a 6 (so you don't give anyone a +2 for first turn and a manticore seemed a fine choice especially as I got it for less than a tenner of of eBay :-)

I'm regretting my decision to go comp 3 already...

Mine is 2 or 3.

Still expect to win at least 5/6 games. Had two practice games so far, and while I'm not a fan of the comp am pretty certain the build I have would not be available in most other tournments.

If you're a Dnet poster, come find me on the Fri/Sat night - I'm the guy with 'Amit' or 'Chocolate Bear' on the back of his shirt and am normally drinking with the Black Sun/South London Legion/Angel Wargamers

So played last years winner in a practice match on Monday at the club and my manticore died to a ironblaster shot first turn first shot, yeah so dreadlord is going back on his peg irrespective of the comp! Was a 9 score list so overboard on the soft choices and only the cloak as a hard choice.

So have decided that I am going to probably need to take 3-4 hard choices and might squeeze in 2-4 soft to come out with a 4-6 I am at firestorm fours this weekend so if that list works I may expand it by 400pts

Yeah, score 2-4 seems to be the 'sweet spot.'

Get +2 vs the outright filth that's dwelling down on comp 0-1, but still have enough of the good stuff to smash the fluff bunnies up on 6+.

Had a one day event under this comp on Sunday, and a few things emerged which you might find interesting:

  • Fortitude, especially mobile fortitude, is really important - but smallish units of Cavalry, not their edgier Fast Cav cousins.
  • Scenarios are crucial.
  • To that end, high Comp scores are crucial, and I think a comp score in the higher band of 4-6 is better.
  • Elven legions are massively undercomped. Expect 2 units of 20 Trueflight Glade Guard, a unit of White Lions with the Banner, two Eagles, two Bolt Throwers, a bunch of wizards, and a sprinkling of concessions to get high comp scores. There were three lists at the event that followed this exact formula, and they dominated the top tables.
