Fiery Breath or Spit Fire?

Any C&C would be appreciated as wanting to run 2 Hydras.

Thanks

Fiery Breath all the way. On most occasions the shooting attack just isnt worth it and the 2D6 S4 Flaming Attacks rly help thin out those big blocks you want your Hydra's to clogh up.

Fiery Breath. Definitely. Spit fire doesn't have a fixed strength or fixed number of shots and you will most likely need 6's to hit.

Yep, no question. It's not really even a contest.

It's only a one use attack though so hopefully I roll high on the 2D6

You can use it in the shooting phase if you are unengaged. Place the template well and smoke them.

It's only a one use attack though no matter right for the 20 points? Hoping to get that high roll or else 20 points wasted for a roll of snake eyes for the hits.

You should base a judgement off the average, which is seven hits, not the worst case scenario, which is 2. By your logic, dark elf armies have lousy leadership, because you could roll a 12 and fail no matter what.

You could go without either - but typically the breath attack one is better.

Excellent point and would free 40 points if two Hydras are taken. :D

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=75162&p=904151#p904151 Smoke up to 35 of them if they're 20mm in a horde formation, try roll that on 2d6 in combat !lol!

That been said, if you don't have a decent target of 7 or more models (7 been average on 2d6) then using it in combat isn't a bad idea.

Breath weapons are devastating against 20mm base armies. Sometimes having the hydra fire breath weapon is the only way to hurt avoidance lists. There's a reason why firebellies from OK are so important for them.
