i've been thinking of getting my darkelves out again for a while now, but never been able to see past the COS list i last used. thats until some daft sod at GW messed up the FAQ on the website. i thought i'd dig out my old manticore list and see how it does with the change.

highsorceress, lv4, darkpegasus, darkstar cloak, scroll, wand @ 395pts
sorceress lv2, black staff, scroll @ 175pts
beastmaster, manticore, armour of darkness, lance @ 259pts

12 warriors, standard, muscian, shield, rxb's @ 159pts

16 warriors, standard, muscian, champion, shields @ 153pts
5 dark riders, rxb's @ 120pts
5 dark riders, rxb's @ 120 pts

chariot, spears @ 97pts
5 Coldone knights @ 145pts
6 harpies @ 78pts
6 shades @ 84pts

2 bolt throwers @ 200pts

2144pts

basically a balanced, bit of everything dark elf list. nothing too snazzy but still has a few trick up it's sleeves.
i'd have like to get a 2nd chariot in there but i've dropped it to swap my old unit of 16 rxb's to 2 units of 12 with standards and muscians. the manticore is a bitmore resiliant now the rider has a 2+ save and he should be able to dash headlong into a dryad unit without getting himself knocked off the top.
i've also given the staff to the high sorceress, i've always swore by the lifetaker but i wanted the staff in there and the only other place is the lv2 but she needs the black staff, it lets her power through a chillwind/doombolt when really needed.
i have 80 shots a turn and 2 rbt's so should be able to cause some pain on enemies coming at me and the chariot and knights work together well.

i'll give it a go for a few games and see how it clicks i'm also drawing up a new list with a highborn on manticore and 3 lv2's. not sure on that one yet though.

nice that you will give the druchii a second go - I'm looking forward for news and some nice battle reports :-)

I think your list is good. I like that you are using shades and harpies...
The only thing where I am not totaly convinced is the hero setup. A HS on a darkpegasus seems a little bit fragile, would it be a idea to swap the pegasus for the manticore and go with a noble instead of the beastmaster ?

This would give your HS the equivalent to a 3+ ward save (the maticore) some better LoS (unfortunatly also the other way round) , it would keep you one unit with terror, and would keep you a nice combat character .

ahh the pegasus thing again. have a look through my old post and you will see i have been shot down for the pegasus many times before. i've always used it very well and never had too many problems keeping her alive. the whole point of me picking up this list again is the fact that the beastmaster has a bit more staying power now.

the manticore is a fighting monster and the sorceress should never see combat, the pegasus on the other hand is a pair of wings to get my magic where it's needed most.

Otherwise, looks pretty balanced. The Cold One Knights are a bit "why?" because for me, they have never worked. They fail every single Stupidity test possible. I'd take Mengil and his boys if I were you.

no dogs of war or special characters. if i were to use one it would be morathi because she is well worth the extra points.
