OK people, I know that after the polls I started some of you felt (correctly) that I was putting my foot on the Executioners. However, this luckily had a positive effect - a thread has been started suggesting several new, characterful abilities for Executioners. So that they can really put the force behind the words, so to speak!

One of the biggest arguments put forward by proponents of the Executioners has been their aestethic value; they look INSANELY cool, and they have a definite psychological effect: intimidation. My guess is that no matter how good an opponent is, he will never completely disregard their (albeit may it be overrated) reputation.

I have tried to base a 2K army around the role I feel they fulfil most successful, and it has turned out to be fairly defensive. I'd like it if you share your opinions with me!

Highborn ha, SDC DoDP, Black Amulet 240
20 Executioners FullComm BoM 295
deployed together, 7*3

10 rxbWars shields, Muso 125
10 rxbWars shields, Muso 125
5 DR rxbs, Muso 127
5 DR rxbs, Muso 127
2 RBTs 200

5 Harpies 65
Noble on Peggy ha,SDC, sh, lance DM 187
Noble on Peggy SDC, sh, halberd BA, LT 187

5 DR StB, Muso 111
5 Shades 70

Sorceress Lv1 Seal, Scroll 140
deployed with rxbWars

TOTAL 1999

I grouped together the unit selections by the roles they fulfil, these should be obvious to anyone :D Aestethic value comes into play again a little with my choice of Sniper Nobles over Hunter Nobles, I used a war machine specialist and a general troubleshooter. Executioners and HB are placed in the general defence section; the reasoning is that only the tin guys will survive the hail of arrows relatively unharmed - a juicy target for the Exes. Due to their low points cost, extra ranks are less of a problem, so I did not hold back. There are enough marchblockers present to avoid being swamped... I hope. All in all, I think this force will perform just fine, and I plan on taking it for a spin sometime soon. Again, lemme know what you think!

As you have very few hammer units, I would replace the troubleshooter noble with two Chariots. I am not entirely sure about the DR with standard either. With a standard, I prefer them in a unit of seven or six with a noble to increase their survivability from shooting and the chances of outnumbering.

Other than that the list looks solid and fun.

I'd dropp a peggy noble and the shades for two chariots and another scroll on the caddy(move the seal to the remaning noble) And by two to four more Harpies.

Your army would gain alot from chariot suport and with Ld10 they should keept in check pretty well...

EDIT to clarify!

@ Vinschent: there are indeed no hammer units but for the Exes. But that's a concentration of 500-something points already!

The intention was to have everything -but the Exes unit- look weak. I intend to play "around the block" some more, but the kids all play with open lists. Both DoDP and Black Amulet scream "stay away" at their expensive things, as do the Exes themselves.

Imagine being quite inexperienced (maybe even never having faced the Druchii!), you'll be outmanoeuvred in no time :D

@ both Vin and Joey: CoC support is great indeed but I'm a little hesitant about dropping the Sniper-troubleshooter for them. I need shooting superiority to keep the game plan intact, and destroying enemy firebases is an integral part of achieving my objective.

If you have suggestions that would
a) make the list hittier
b) while staying true to fluff :)
c) would not diminish my shooting power and
d) would retain my anti-shooting policy

I'd be more than happy to incorporate them!

Not at all, they have better movement, are much cheaper, and are often underestimated by the opponent. They are perfect for taking out warmachine crews and are harder to kill with shooting. The extra attack each also helps out a great deal. It isn't right to just throw them right out.

I think that exec's are awsome but only if you play to the strengths of the unit, small units with maximum frontage used to hit hard not as a Static res unit thats what spearmen are for a unit of execs can cause hell to heavily armoured targets but with a 5+ armoursave thay sound not be hit back IMHO a unit that big and with the general is just screeming "Easy Victory Points Here". They are a support unit like WE used for killing thats it they hit hard and kill.

I have just opened my eyes to harpies and that changed the battle result from being massacred by the empire to slaughtering them.

I love this list and the idea. Give us a battle report on how it performs! :P
Would be interesting to form an army like this for larger points scale, 3000 or 4000 and you could support the exe's with another unit or something else, again with highborn or noble in, possibly assassins too, and expand firepower and manouevrable elements... would be very interesting.

 Major thread necromancy

IMO this list isn't even that powerful as it lacks manoeuvrability compared to what I usually run, and it's all a little fragile. Shame about those wonderful Exe models collecting dust though, I hope the new AB will give them juicier rules. :)

Even if its defensive, i would still prefer to have more magic to disrupt my enemy's movement and shooting, etc apart from that its a pretty solid list
