Toying with a Corsair list

Well I already have another list floating around somewhere on the DAL threads but after re-reading the Dark Elf background and reading Zardock's list I decided to give Corsairs a whirl

Master- Heavy Armour, Shield, SDC Hydra Blade-125
Sorceress-Lvl 2-135
Sorceress Lvl 2 Dark Peg-185

18 Corsairs-Reaver Musician-195
18 Corsairs-Reaver Musician-195
10 Corsairs- Handbows, Reaver W/pair of bows- 113
5 Dark Riders Xbws Musician-117
5 Harpies- 55
5 Harpies-55
10 Crossbow Elves-100
10 Crossbow Elves 100

5 Cold One Knights-Dread Knight, Standard Bearer W/Standard of Slaughter-192
5 Shades Great Weapons-90
5 Shades, Great Weapons- 90

2 RBT-200

1947 :)

I have a few concerns with this list

1-There doesnt seem many high strength attacks flying around

2-Is the magic worth investing in, will I be able to use magic offensivly with 2 lvl 2s

1) you are correct you have a limited access to high strength attacks but you do have a good number of S4 attacks. Personally, I am not sold on the corsairs with handbows. You have 2 rbts and about 70 rxb shots per round do you really need the handbows as well? Consider dropping that corsair unit and upping the size of the other two. You should have enough points to do that and get a warbanner or SSS in there.

2) This depends a lot of the style of play prevelant in your gaming venue. Some places you will be fine others may require you to make a decision on going heavier or with just a caddy.

Well since the list is 1950 I assume it is supposed to be 2000. With 50 points you can spend 20 to get shields on your xbows which are really useful. Or give two scrolls to mage (or 1 to each)

- High strength attacks are plentiful: COK, GW shades, RBT, seems enough.

- Your magic is not offensive enough. As a rule of the thumb, I'd say magic-heavy is 2 levels per 500 pts, you have half of it. Either you should go magic-heavy or magicless (i.e. RoH and scroll caddy). Anything in-between is not enough to overcome the expected magic resistance. Unless you want to play friendly games at home, of course.

- I concur with Dark Apostle197 about the shields on MXB. Not vital but often useful.

- I disagree about dropping RHB corsairs: their role is not missile troop, it is escorting troops. Nothing is more annoying for your opponent's march-blockers (usually light cavalry) than RHB corsairs: twice as resistant as DR or harpies (they take twice as many shots for the same price), they can unleash a rain of bolts that these fragile light troops hate.
When you're infantry-heavy, the rhb are your best escorts.

- I concur with Mordru about the interest of the SSS or the warbanner, or even the AP banner for corsair's units. Now, it has a cost. Up to you to choose what to renounce.

- I don't see much interest in the master.

Have a nice raid, mate! Always good to see fellow corsairs!

Ok some minor changes

Master- Heavy Armour, Shield, SDC Hydra Blade-125
Sorceress-1 Dispel Scroll-125
Master, Heavy Armour, Shield, SDC, Crossbow, Dark Peg, Bane Of Caledor-185

18 Corsairs-Reaver Musician-195
18 Corsairs-Reaver Musician-195
10 Corsairs- Handbows, Reaver W/pair of bows- 113
5 Dark Riders Xbws Musician-117
5 Harpies- 55
5 Harpies-55
10 Crossbow Elves, Shields-110
10 Crossbow Elves, Shields- 110

5 Cold One Knights-Dread Knight, Ring of Hotek, Standard Bearer W/Standard of Slaughter-217
5 Shades Great Weapons-90
5 Shades, Great Weapons- 90

2 RBT-200

18 points left.

There are still a few tweaks I would like to make, namely making the hydra blade master into a dreadlord and finding points for the warbanner and AP banner for the 2 Corsair blocks, could I get away with dropping the Sorceress?

The newest incarnation of this list looks much better. The hunter master will be an asset in getting rid of enemy magic and light units.

I've used coks with ring of hotek. Watch out! I the enemy is smart will try to shoot everything against them to randomize on the champion, killing it.

The rest of the list sounds good. Make sure to post some battle report!

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to let you know, it will be a while before I get to use it in full force though my-soon-to-become regular opponent still has to get his 2K Wood Elf force together

@Hulkster I agree! entirely, in fact this is one of my considerations. Throughout my usage with this list Im going to be assessing the RBT's as I have had little look with Bolt Thrower machines in the past and either a CoB or a hydra banner is a replacement option.

As for the CoB not fitting the theme, it can! Thanks to the guys in the Corsair leauge we came up with the idea of modelling a CoB as an altar of the mystical and reveared Sea Serpent...whoes standard already grants frenzy!

Well Ed I'm already working on a corsair list that includes the Serpant Altar and the Witch Elves + Executioner Variants we have established.

Your list is looking good though magic defense looks a tad lacking, of course Peg master will hunt down those mages and eat them for breakfast. In fact I may drop my Scroll caddy and take that instead =D looks alot more fun IMO.

And Magic Heavy is not necessary, you can eliminate threats with a hail of crossbow death and then swoop in with the corsairs and finish it up.

Only qualm I have is your 2 big blocks of infantry do not contain Standards, since they are your mainstay I reckon they should carry one, then you can knock on the frenzy banner to one unit and use the rhb corsairs as escorts to keep those fast cav lures away. IMO standards are useful on your block infantry, I assume you are deploying 6x3?

I'm abit iffy on the Dreadlord build, Potion and Hydra Blade, its a one turn wonder and yet rolling a 1-2 on your d3 sort of wastes the potions potential for that turn, however please try it out as I would like justification to use my 2hw weilding corsair lord model instead of crimson death bloke no.1000000 =D looking like a true Corsair list atm.

The RBT should work good but then again I for some reason can always knock out 12/12 shots from my 2 Bolt Throwers much to my opponents disdain....

Good Luck with the list.
