The 'recent-posts' scroll

Post by Mornedhel »

hi folks,
i was thinking about the recent posts list that scrolls upward on the left side of the main page. i find it somewhat irritating that i have to wait for it to scroll up to read all the titles of the recently posted topics.
couldn´t it just be a non-scrolling fixed list? that could be read much faster and we wouldn´t have to wait until its scrolled to the last post.
What do you think about it?

I'm not sure that many people uses it, but I like it the way it is. It adds some movement to the index page. An al static site looks a bit boring IMO.

I don't think anyone should use it to browse druchii.net. it's supposed to add some movement to the main page and just be something where people might look at some topics from forums where they normally wouldn't go.
And on top of that; it doesn't show all new posts since your last visit, so you'll miss pretty many of the intersting topics.
That would be a waste, no? ;)

sure, but as i don´t spend very much time here, it´s just enough to read those posts, not all the 947 new post since my last visit ;)

I use it sometimes to check the most recent posts... But usually I simply use "View posts since last visit" thus seldom visiting the forum index too. Scroll is fine in my opinion.

I like it scrolling myself, guess that's because I'm used to it.
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore --
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

Yeah, you can just click that button and see everything without the scroll. The scroll just shows a few recent ones and you can glance at that to see if anything catches your eye. I use it sometimes if I've got a couple of spare minutes and want to see if anything's up on Druchii.net, but I only use it when I've visited the page within the last hour or two.
Goodbye.

I like the scrolling thing, however, i keep going to things on it only to find that they are locked. would it be possible to put something on it to warn u that the thread u r clicking on is locked, or simply not put things that are locked on it?

The other problem is that it only tells u who last posted and not who started it which would be useful!
