A new and improved report function?
Something I would really like to see implemented - I don't know if it's possible on d.net, but French forums (like Warmania or WarFo) have this (so did B&C, when it was up):
When you report, a screen pops up asking you to fill in a form (which the attending mod then receives). This form automatically has a link to the thread and post you reported, your name on it and a blank space where you can say why you reported it. I've had too many times where I wasn't sure if the mod in charge would understand why I reported a post.
Anyway, probably not realistically feasable, but something very useful, as it makes clear to the moderators exactly why the post was reported - for example, one could report a post for a sentence one found offensive, but the mod could fail to see that sentence as offensive and not do anything about it. With that form, it makes sure that the mod sees exactly why the post was reported and can edit it accordingly (this would also require allowing multiple people to report the same post).

growing tired of being disillusioned
If you're really concerned about that, you can always (in regard to the Pm topic ) send the mod a PM explaining why you want to report the post.
It is possible enough for a.org to have it. Think about it... the Asur now have another thing we don't. Go get 'em, I'd say.

Sounds like a good idea - the couple of times I've reported threads I've said so in the thread, as to why I've reported them.
The question is how many people would actually fill out the form?
Does it say who reported a thread at the moment, if not couldn't this idea with the name on lead to some emnity with so called "whining posters". If it does at the moment I'll shut up now.

Dunno if Dyvim meant in the current system or the one I proposed, but...
In the one featured at both those French forums I mentioned as well as B&C and a few other boards, the mods for the particular board that happens to be concerned are the only ones who get the name of the person who reported the thread (along with a link to the thread and the reporter's explanation). In addition to that, the report button stays active, and no one knows if the post was reported.
The reason why I don't see much of any use in posting why I report in the thread itself is that:
- most of these threads are ones I don't feel like posting in;
- almost every post that I'd be making saying "I reported for X" would be spam (off-topic and non-contributive);
- it's something that needs to be done, not paraded.

it does say who made the report. and we sometimes when really confused Pm that member to ask what they thought was worthy of reporting

In that case if that's the same as it is know, just allowing more detail on the reports and more than one person to report a thread, I think it's a good idea, although I'm not sure how many people would actually fill in the details or report threads, but then I don't know how many threads are reported at the moment.

Filling out the details is mandatory, and the only details you have to fill out is explaining why you reported. No explanation, no report; it's that simple.

I suppose it makes sense, and the only people who probably report threads are the type to fill in the details anyway.
