I've been noticing that these forums are slow in responses. I waited a few days for a response on a post I made, and got only 2 replies. The forum seems a little slow to me, compared to the World of Warcraft forums, which would have people posting literally every 5 minutes.

Yeah, we're a big site, but compared to WoW forums, we are nothing. WoW is a game with a massive, rabid fanbase, and little Dnet can't hope to compare.

Also, try comparing the quality of responses, and look at the difference between Dnet's few posts and WoW's massive flood of quasi-spam.
Stop me if you've heard this one...

This is one of the larger warhammer forums and certainly the largest dark elf forum, but compared to other forums, we are dead slow. I know in some of the myspace forums I frequent, I can hit the reply button and 4 people reply by the time Im done typing. I kinda like the slower pace of these fora because it gives everyone time to respond. So my advice to you is to just be patient. Remember, patience is a virtue.

While I haven't been here long this forum seems to be slow to answer but quick to think which I appreciate.

I rarely see poorly thought out or worded posts here and I'll gladly pay in time for a thoughtful and well mannered community.

Dnet is rather fast-paced compared to most other wargaming forums. It obviously is slow compared to WoW-Forums, because those simply have more members.

But as the others said, I highly doubt the posts on those forums are of the same quality as the ones here, even though lately there has been a rather steep drop in post quality on Dnet. I don´t actually know why, though, and post quality here is still better than on many other forums I know.
It´s nice to be important, but it´s more important to be nice.

Despite the fact that D.net may have more than ten thousand registered members, I doubt that much more than half of them are fully active (even that might be a bit generous, given the two major crashes that D.net has suffered through in the past), as compared to the WoW forums, with many thousands and thousands of people who are. The size just isn't comparable (and the ratio would probably hold true for the WoW forums as well, though with more members you're obviously going to get more activity). The same is true of all but the largest wargaming forums (of which, Warseer is the only one, really, and even they can be a bit slow on the uptake).

even though lately there has been a rather steep drop in post quality on Dnet.

And how would YOU suggest we fix this? Come wtih suggestions on what to improve. And you will find it is very hard to tell members "post faster" ;)

If that was directed at me, Linda, then there isn't really a way to get inactive members to start posting unless you stand over them with a baseball bat. Either they'll actively post, or they won't. It could be any number of reasons - they might not like the topics of conversation. They might only drop by once in a few months. What they want to say might already have been said. They might just prefer reading to posting. They might have left because they realised that there's a world outside their front door.

I think it depends on what you're waiting for a response to. Druchii discussion, WHF discussion and Off Topic all do fairly brisk business, as does D army lists. Sometimes your post might not interest people, or maybe it's just a slow day. I'd say that most threads get at least a couple of replies within hours of being posted.

The trick is to be patient, particularly since you usually get a decent reply from those who do post.

I'd be much harsher than eldy and say there are only a few hundred active or semi-active posters, with a whole bunch of lurkers on top of that.

I think activity is difficult to generate with a race-specific forum (at least as far as the race-specific parts go). The DE army book has been around something like 5 years now...and there's only so much that can be said so many times over.

The only real way to get more content is for the posters (any of us!) to try new things - msu or even traditional "block" armies are not the be-all and end-all of Dark Elf lists. But these days those willing to spend a whole bunch of money on an army that might not work are few in number.

I suspect more can be done to generate more activity, but there is only so many ways you can re-invent the wheel ;).

Hi,

I am realy happy about the amount of activity in this forum. It is enough not to get bored and to get some new ideas, but it is not too much to keep up with the posts in at least some subforums (for me mainly Rules, D.Tatics and D.Armylists).

For me the quality of D-net is nearly unbeaten, I do not know any other warhammer forum where the most contains as much usefull information - especially the local ones here contain more signature text than text from the posting, it makes me realy unhappy if you have to scroll a whole page just for 4 to 6 lines of spam which is written in this "new" speech.

The DE army book has been around something like 5 years now...and there's only so much that can be said so many times over.

Here I have some hopes that things will change in summer with the next campain :-)

I am actually rather satisfied with the activity - quality here. Sure, more active members would be great, but I'm not the one to tell other people to post more... I've seen forums in where the niveau was about the same as the the pornbots have reached now..

I think that if the forum stays this way, you'll get an answer to all your Druchii-related questions once. ;)

I also think that we'll get a buzz of activity that'll last for some months at least when the new book and models are released.

Back in my lurking days, I was just reading topics, rarely replying. When I got some more experience, mostly because of this site (thanks guys!), I started posting more. By that time my English was also good enough to make people actually understand me. ;)

This is true. The time between the revision and the storm of chaos campaign was really busy with loads of active users and frenetic discussion on all of the issues.

GW have published and released almost nothing DE related since, so the discussions have died down.

I am sure that as soon as there is a sniff of anything happening, the old timers will be back and the frenetic posting will begin again.

Quantity or quality?

I'd say quality every single time, and definitely here. Thats what I love about D.net. Mods are really good at their job (gotta respect them, as they use their god-like mod powers with proffesionality) so there isn't much spam and such. When there is often a mod online at least every 6th hour (or at least it seems that way) doing a really good job. This gives a lot of quality on the site (unlike wow sites...).

It might be difficult to "make" people post more, if they don't want to.

The only thing I really can complain about, is the search-function...

What did you post?
Was it clear what issue you wanted people to address?

Posting about popular topics is going to get more of a response than posting about some fringe item.

By the way, timezones matter too. When someones asleep, there will also be someone at work in another place... I doubt there are many Asians at this site... So if you post at the "wrong" time, it might take a while...

Also "special" topics might take some time. I mean, topics that are very rare, and you asks if someone have any experience with it...
