Idea for a Sticky

Post by Khaelakh »

Just thinking, why not make a sticky advising/warning newbies about topics/questions which NOT to post, simply because they have been discussed to death and simply draw a painful grown from anyone who's been here more than a couple of months. Here's my suggestions:

"Is Khaine Korne?"
"Who will rule after Malekith dies?/ Is Darkblade Mally's heir?"
"Who is the Dark Mother?"
ect. ect. ect...

hmmm...

Okay i suppose we could be nice and give them links to previous posts (they are N00BS after all ;) )

Anywat what do you think? :D

You mean...like a FAQ?

Sarcasm aside, there is the small issue of getting people to actually read such topics. It's bad enough getting people to read the general rules or rules forum FAQs, and another may not really gather much attention.

We could put such topics in the hall of fame, of course.

Moved to suggestions.

How about a stickie that says read the FAQs. Or better yet an announcement permenantly on the front saying "READ YOUR FAQs.

Or retitle the FAQs to be the FAQING FAQs since it might attract a little more attention.

Or we could use reverse psychology and put up a sticky telling everyone not to read the FAQs.

Or we could, Sorry, too little sleep and too much coffee this morning.

The FAQs should be called somting like ALL OF THE ANSWERS HERE! So it will get peoples attention uther than that tacklbry has some good ideas. A nice do not read the FAQs on the homepage might work too.

*waves hand* you do not want to read the FAQs

Well, I've certainly tried. When I first posted the 40k FAQ, it says with big ***'s and such "No excuse not to read!" and there's still been questions that could have been answered by the FAQ.

I considered creating a forum that had all the bullet points of the FAQ as topics, but I suspect that would just mean that forum wouldn't get read much :(.

People tend to post first, read later. Maybe renaming it to "We told you the answer was here, dummy" would work as a subject heading, but that might be a bit confrontational ;).

Maybe I could bug Langmann to install a mod to allow subtitles to topics, that way the title can be descriptive but also include a "YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THIS" line beneath.

The existing welcome pm wrote:This will answer many of your questions about the site; as well as the additions to the Dark Elf army itself including the devastating Gauntlet of Power!

You can see how when I wrote that I was getting a tad sick of the GoP threads that kept on springing up ;). Thinking about it, it may have actually worked in that regard...

It would be possible to send an e-mail to everyone on the user list, but part of me doesn't want to let that grind along as the system sends that out to 10,000 e-mail addresses. I think that's a bit of a sledgehammer solution.

Rork would you like to do the honors of the link?
@ Lyhne free porn means virus to most people (that i know anyway)

Maybe a test to enter Druchii.net?
To prove you read or printed out the faq?
Makes you read it

I forget who tried "Cheap dark riders" that linked to the FAQ.

Ideally the sign-up would be similar to the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark, whereby members must prove their worth by overcoming a series of fiendish traps that would destroy less mortals.

Unfortunately, most forget about the spikes that fly out of the wall...

This sort of thing was on a long list of projects I was going to eventually get around to in the History forum, but nobody really reads the stickies anyway. I think the pdf is the best way to go.
