[moan="Layne"]No, damn youse, make them stronger, not cheaper![/moan]

Would it be possible/feasible/ridiculous to make this or something like it a viable bit of HTML? I mean, the end result would be like, instead of Layne said:
the tag would read Layne moaned:

or, instead of Quote:, it might read Moan: or Rant:

That might be one way to "lighten things up".

The easiest thing to do is to return the Humor forum and just not allow it to count towards the post count. This might slightly deter people from making their humor extra spammy, or you from having to worry about it too much.

Certainly. That's something that has be set by one of the webmasters, it's not something that can be changed or installed with only admin permissions.

We could do with a better set of search tags for the search engines. Right now it seems relatively difficult to find this site on Google if you type in anything other than "Dark Elves" (so Dark Elf or Dark Elf forum is actually less optimal).

Aye - you can either code it in manually, or install a phpBB mod that allows you to set it from the ACP. Either method requires a webmaster (unless easymod is installed, Admins have access to it, and the mod in question can be installed via easymod alone).

But we also need the time and energy to mod said forum, which was also one reason the humor forum was closed. It was a lot of work.

This is one of the few forums that can be accessed at work. I wouldnt want changes to the tags if it made blocking more likely.

Doesnt affect me as I now work from home.

I think the mod team comes across as a bit grumpy from time to time which is a shame as I am sure you would not be here unless you were enjoying yourselves. Most of the time I just think you are being dry but some of our more vulnerable members could a a little intimidated.

In addition, the site's contents are not being indexed by any search engines. This usually points to a setting (f.i. a robots.txt file) that asks search engines not to index this site -- this happens when people wish to save bandwidth or would rather not be publicly known for some reason or another.

You would be grumpy too if you had to deal with you lot all the time ;)

Oh I agree some of us (coughmecough) can be a bit grumpy, but a lot of that can be explained that tone of voice and all that cant be shown well over the net. But I promise to do better, dont want to be known as grumpy but evil!

I just wanna jump in and throw this out. If the lack of a moderator for the humor forum was the bad part I would gladly volunteer, just throwing it out there though.

Not sure exactly where is the best place to dump this lot, but here goes...

I just went for a search new posts, and I received this :

Could not insert search results

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1062 Duplicate entry '1731216612' for key 1

INSERT INTO forum_search_results (search_id, session_id, search_time, search_array) VALUES(1731216612, '641d0bbef8f6cbc0f39f9bde02583b57', 1213614798, 'a:7:{s:14:"search_results";s:152:"54431, 54868, 54878, 54899, 54908, 54963, 54979, 54985, 55015, 55020, 55037, 55057, 55060, 55078, 55085, 55088, 55090, 55091, 55094, 55097, 55098, 55099";s:17:"total_match_count";i:22;s:12:"split_search";N;s:7:"sort_by";i:0;s:8:"sort_dir";s:4:"DESC";s:12:"show_results";s:6:"topics";s:12:"return_chars";i:200;}')

Line : 708
File : search.php

What it might mean I leave to the experts. It wasn't what I wanted, so I guess it isn't good.

It means the forum software wanted to log a search result in a database table, but mucked up internally. It expected a unique key (something to uniquely identify the entry by) but, when inserting, found that there was already a key with that number.

It could be a fluke. If there's a problem, we'll see a lot of these coming up quickly. If not, let's hope it's 'just' a concurrency problem. ;)

Useful might be a variation on #chan saging, i.e. allowing the user to click on something (could be next to the Quote, Attach Signature and Notify options) to prevent the post, when submitted, from moving the thread up. This could be used as "safe threadomancy" when something in an old thread needs to be discussed and only people still watching the thread would be notified. (it also won't appear in the last posts info on Home)

hi

Back when i played WoW our guild had a brilliant forum. a feature we had there that i am missing on druchii.net is that when you click on a thread with "new posts" in it, each of the new posts were very visibly marked as "NEW". That made it a lot easier when following a discussion to find where you left off. Sure you can check the posting date, but im talking a cool icon, around 50x50 pixels in bright colors.

we have a good feature to find threads with new posts. id like a similar feature for each post Smile

cheers

What would be the chance of having a sticky post somewhere to point new users to advising them to not use l33t speak and to make even a weak attempt at punctuation & spelling? I'm not a grammer nazi but some of the posts that are coming in look they quite litterally were written by kids in grade three or four. It makes my eyes bleed

I know it's a lot to ask, especially since this is my first post; but... could you please put the references at the "Forum rules, relevant links, & basic info" of the History of the Druchii section? ... It will make it easier to validate the information given, and perhaps go into more depth of it.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you think we should put it in the HoD forum?

It is probably a request to quote the source of the fluff: GW army books? Black Library?

This would be all the more useful that GW fluff is evolving.
The fluff mentioned in the thread is dating somehow.
It might refer to GW old editions, superseded by current ones.
It might refer to Black Library as well. Which is evolving, too, it seems.
