BFG Imperial Fleet

Post by Grandmaster ej »

Hay all, ive read the posts on BFG here and me and some mates have always been interested in starting up the system again so were geting some fleets, im doing imperial so was wondering if i could get any advice on my list OR just general advice for playin the game, i literally just read the rules 2 days ago so my lists might be a tad newbish:

500 Points
Tyrant Class Cruiser + Front Batteries Upgrade = 195
2x3 Sword Class Frigates = 210
3 Cobra Class Destroyers = 90
Total = 495

1000 Points
Fleet-Admiral + Extra Reroll = 75*
Overlord Class Battlecruiser = 235*
Dominator Class Cruiser = 190
Tyrant Class Cruiser + Front Batteries Upgrade = 195
2x3 Sword Class Frigates = 210
3 Cobra Class Destroyers = 90
Total = 995

1500 Points
Admiral + Extra Reroll = 125*
Retribution Class Battleship = 345*
Overlord Class Battlecruiser = 235
Dominator Class Cruiser = 190
Tyrant Class Cruiser + Front Batteries Upgrade = 195
3x3 Sword Class Frigates = 315
3 Cobra Class Destroyers = 90
Total = 1495

mostly a decent mix of speed and long range batteries (my regular opponent will be eldar i think so theres not many lances) and a nova cannon thrown in for laughs. not adding much other ordinance yet as i want to get used to the rules step by step instead of all at once.

i think your first two lists are all right but i'd probobly get some more smaller craft for the 1500 point one. Don't really put to much stock on my advice though as i've never played (they don't sell BFG in Australia, even over the web site and it would be bloody expensive to get it shipped from england or something).

You are going to get eaten alive by a carrier or torpedo fleet. Little to no ordnance in these lists will allow a wave or two of bombers or torpedoes to maul those big expensive cruisers. Learn those rules, as you really need even a minimal fighter screen. Eldar have mediocre bombers, but they have excellent torpedoes.

Eldar don't have lances. They have Pulsar lances, which are infinitely worse. The good thing is that they are all medium range - 30cm. But Eldar have the maneuverability to leap in, take the shots, and then leap out in their extra movement phase.

Your ships actually don't have that much long range firepower. If I were you, I would consider beefing up on long-range weapons (45-60 cm range)and adding in some launch bays.

Eldar are a hard army to learn against, because they have a lot of special rules that give them an edge even against experienced players. I suggest that you keep your distance and keep them
in your side arcs.

Just my two cents worth. Hope it helps. Gothic is a great game. Enjoy yourself and good luck.
Because anyone vicious enough to shoot down her own battlecruiser because there might be a traitor at the helm deserves to have a Druchii namesake.

I agree with the call for more launch bays. At least one mars should do the trick.
Always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them more.

I've been in Oz for a year now and its discusting how much more expensive GW are here!

On average its at least 1/3 more expensive and thats taking the exchange rate into consideration.

I've imported alot of stuff from England, it only cost £4 worldwide. Its never been stopped by customs yet.

www.phoenixforge.com.au/ Will not help you with specialist games but I'd rather buy from them than GW AU

In a 1500pt game I would definately replace the Retribution with an Emperor class battleship. The Emp has a comparible number of Batteries (if you are only firing to the one side) but can pack the punch of 8 bombers

Change the Tyrant for a Gothic and use it as a 1-2 puch combo with your dominator

And the Quarrel in your back

Agree completely. The Emperor Class rocks. Its long-range weapon batteries are especially good againt Eldar, who can't use their double move to jump out of range.
