Warmaster anyone?

Warmaster anyone?
I've just discovered this wonderful game. Compared to WH: WM is much more strategical, more challenging, less complex (less special rules means you're more concentrated on strategical moves), more streamlined, quicker to start an army, cheaper to collect (5-10 € per unit!), quicker to paint and better looking on the table.
Now that's a strategy wargame! WH is no more than an overgrown skirmish game.
So who's playing WM, what are your experiences with it and what do you field?
Here's my starter army to be rated:
2x spearmen
2x crossbowmen
2x dark riders
1x cold one knights
1x bolt throwers
1 general: chariot, orb of majesty
1 hero
1 mage

Welcome.
Glad to see such adequate grade of a WRM system.
I don't see a need to discuss any particular variants of DE army but I could point the basic directions of your army development
- you will need flyers, more RBT, some terror-causing things (alike characters on manticores, perhaps Hydra - it is weak on a battlefield but beautiful model) and a shock troops - COK.

I love the Warmaster system. It's a pity that more people don't play it. I actually have an Empire army. Would have put toghether Dark Elves, but they didn't exist at the time I was getting into the game.
I agree with Bel that it would be good to have more than 1 RBT. It's not so much about killing the enemy troops as it is about driving back your targets to disrupt enemy formations.

I agree completely. I think Warmaster is far superior to Warhammer. Alas, opponents are so damn rare...
Oh, and they finally gave Dark Elves Command 10 for those who haven't looked at the latest rules. But there are caveats...

I found this 2000 point list that I used in an actual game. The list didn't vary much since my models were limited. I did toss in a steam tank from time to time.
Code: Select all
1x General 125
Griffon 80
Orb of Majesty 30
2x Hero 160
1x Wizard 45
War Altar 15
4x Halberdiers 180
2x Skirmishers 50
4x Crossbowmen 220
2x Cannon 170
2x Hellblaster 100
4x Pistoliers 380
4x Knights 440
Total is 1995 points
Infantry would normally form into 2 groups, each with half the crossbows and halberdiers and with a cannon and hellblaster each. They would form up with the artillery between the infantry units such that any enemy trying to get the infatry would end up in combat with the artillery as well and vice versa.
The pistoliers would run in a brigade entirely of pistoliers with the initial job of getting close and trying to use shooting to disrupt and confuse enemy formations. And the knights would act as the hammer to come in and mop up the mess.
Don't ask for more detail since it's been years since I played!

The beauty of Warmaster is that the lists do'nt change much. Its much less about army selection and much more about HOW you play. I like that very much...

Probably the best game GW have produced for it's playability. I play as much as possible still though new opponents are few. I currently have 2k or more of Empire, Undead, Kislev, Orcs, Chaos and Dark Elves.
Orcs are my favourite but most of my tournament success has been with Undead.
Overall its a real test of your gaming skill to plan and manouver your troops around the board to create an advantageous position from which to attack.

Its just really down to my mind set when I use them cause I expect them to go do something really unhelpful at some point I don't stress as much about the game when so I relax more and have a little more fun, then I'm often surprised by them being a really good army .

Sorry for threadomance, but as this is the only warmaster thread in here,´adn the title should be similar, i´ll post here.
Have you ever play with/against Araby? how this army is?
i know that unfortunately this is the army who kicked of Kislev from warmaster (a shame) but i think it seems a good army, just i haven´t yet started playing the game, so i wanted to ask here.
Thanks for the coments
