Specialist games

Derailing from SECRET SANTA.
A new topic was made.

Ah, a fellow blood bowler. Best GW game ever IMO.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that without Blood Bowl, I never would have gotten into Warhammer at all. GW doesn't seem to get that; their specialist games may not make a ton of money by themselves, but they are like a "gateway drug" to the bigger games. I only wish they saw that and supported them as much as they deserved.

Similar story.
The kids went to play 40k, I introduced them to Blood Bowl and it became a gateway to WH.

Agreed. Mordheim is what pulled my best friend and I into fantasy. That and the "Nemesis Crown" campaign a few years ago. Between the two we figured we'd each make a small 750pt army and try it out.

Are Blood Bowl and Mordheim supported any more? Both always cought my attention and hearing how much you like them I think I should give them a try! Could someone post some links to rules etc., in case they are available for free?

GW used to have free rules on their website under for Mordheim but those days are long gone. Im sure in a few years there will be a $150 limited edition Mordheim release...but back on topic, I bought my copy of the rules on ebay pretty cheap.

They're not supported by GW, and I can't speak much for Mordheim specifically, but for BB I can tell you that it's played online for free at fumbbl.com, the rulebook is available, and boards and minis can be had on eBay and by 3rd party manufacturers. There's still (despite all odds really) a fairly vibrant international tournament scene (I've been to recent tourneys with upwards of 60 participants), and so on. Fairly amazing when you think about it.

I don't honestly know these days where to download the rule book but I know it's out there. I could send it to you in a PM if you were interested.

Also, apologies to all, I think I have derailed this thread. Any mod wanting to move these last few posts to a new topic would be great.

Thanks. Nice to be able to have a look back at a great game.
Lost my rulebook years ago.

I don't know where you live Amboadine, but I'll just about bet there are people near you still playing. There are events pretty much every weekend. I actually won a tourney last weekend that had 18 participants. Going to one in July that usually brings 50-60, and the BB Tourney at Gen Con in August is often more than that.

If you need minis, you can get the GW stuff off of eBay, and then there are tons of 3rd party manufacturers that make great fantasy football minis and supporting products (fields, scoreboards, etc) as well. Impact! Miniatures is a great example:
