7th Edition Army Books (which are available yet)

Post by Thanee »

Just so I got the list right...

Dwarfs
Orcs & Goblins
The Empire
High Elves
Vampire Counts
Daemons of Chaos

That's all the new army books so far, with Dark Elves and Hordes of Chaos being next, right?

Which edition is the BSB currently? Is that updated first then all of the armies, or backwards?

Dwarves were released during 6th edition but it was their second book withing the frame of the same edition... so it's accepted it counts as their 7th ed book as they were one of the armies in the battle for skull pass as well.

Is this not the same case as Wood Elves?

No. Before the Wood Elf book there was the preview list (printed in a WD I believe) and the Ravening Hordes list before that. So the Wood Elf book was the only book that they got in 6th edition, though it only came out about a year (or two) before 7th.

With Dwarfs it's arguable they're 7th ed. though. Yes they were printed during 6th ed, but they were released just before 7th ed. came out, and you have to trust the designers knew what changes 7th ed. would bring.

I suspect they were released early so that both Dwarfs and Orcs (the two armies in the box) could have new army books pretty quickly, as opposed to waiting a few months for them.

They were released early to create a bigger profit margin for the BFSP set. They are still (at least dwarves) 6th ed books due to a few obvious things. Organ gun still auto hits AND the pictures show 4wide units if I remember correctly.

I think we can call the current dwarf book 7th edition. Yes it technically came out before 7th ed. did, but I'd call their older book which came out around the start of 6th the 6th edition book. It helps avoid confusion.

Also I doubt dwarfs will get a new army book for 7th edition, and their next book will probably come out around the release of 8th edition.

Dwarves stack up in the current climate anyway. They can hold their own in their inimitable one dimensional way...
