Phalx was typically ungracious on realising that the corsairs would be in a leading position on this task going so far as to draw his blade before storming out. Pushing aside his own qualms Elysian turned to Caroac

"You will have to excuse our resident shade, I am afraid he is bat crap crazy. Vryala," he turned now to the warrior to his right
"How on earth have you put up with him all this time?

"Anyway on a more practical front lets go and find Sevro, he must know if the boss actualy has a boat or if we need to half inch one."

'hmm, I have never stolen a ship before,' he mused to himself 'it might be rather fun.'
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

At Phalx's display of aggression, Casaythe stepped forwards, half drawing his own sword. It was not a good idea to kill a member of the group, but he did not intend for the threat to go unchallenged. 'Put it away, we don't want any... accidents now do we?'

After the Shade had stormed out without harming the stormsinger, Elysian remarked about his state of mental health. 'Don't apologise for him, shadowmancer. He knows what he's doing. It's always the little dogs that bark the loudest.' he added, watching the Shade diminish. He was hostile, dangerous, and Casaythe was wary.

He nodded as Dranial continued, suggesting they find Sevro, lowering his blade fully back into its scabbard. New to the Estate's service and it's politics he thought it would be better if one of the Noble Blackthorn's more experienced warriors make the request. 'If he is providing one, just be sure she's not suffering from dry rot, and her rudder is well balanced. Oh, and make sure the sails are tight, and the ropes, and rigging... '

He shut up, thinking if the estate had its own vessel it would be better all 'round if he went to inspect the condition before they were at sea.

At Elysian's question regarding the once again inebriated Shade, Vryala simply shrugged. So often their blades had been at each other's throats, in spite of their mutual dependance, she couldn't even bother to keep count any more. The guy has trouble dealing with authority of any kind, Ely, she now looked at Casaythe, the sooner y'all can make peace with that, the better. She now left the others to find Sevro and get some answers.

As he was absorbed in the chart, Caraoc did not realize anything of the incident with Phalx, nor the explanations which followed.
Instead, he engraved the whole map in his mind, never to be forgotten.
With his extended practical knowledge of the area and the study of all charts he could have grabbed so far, he already had spotted a few minor discrepancies on this chart and a couple of significant ones.
Obviously the chart had been made by a copist with great artistic skills, but no first-hand knowledge of the area. If anyone relied on that chart to navigate, they could be surprised on their way.
The destination, though, seemed as accurate as Caraoc could tell.

-=-=-

After a while, Caraoc exited his reverie on the map.
Only then he realized that Phalx, had left and the other ones were getting ready to leave, too.

"Where's the ship?", he asked.
Noticing the lack of enthusiasm on his new comrade's faces, he guessed that they were most of all landlubbers.
"Four buckets might be handy", did he winked at Casaythe. Puking jokes were an all time sailor's favorite.

Readying for sea.

OOC - Almost no time at all to post tonight guys been out for a meal for my sisters birthday and got a dog to walk every evening now, but I'll do my best to keep the pace so here's a quick one...

IC -

With Phalx leaving the feasting chamber in a somewhat awkward silence a few moments after his blunt departure, the group decided to head out in search of Sevro and focus on the task that lay ahead for them. Nobody else was to know of their mission, but there was one other Druchii they knew without a doubt would have already been informed, and probably know more than they did. As they left the house and entered the courtyard, boots crunching in the snow that covered the gravel path towards the gate, they spotted the Guard Captain already heading their way. Phalx emerged from the house behind them a few moments before Sevro reached them, clutching another drink and mumbling to himself about sea dragons and 'there being a reason only trained Corsairs go to sea'. Sevro took the groups attention from the Shade as he reached them however, leaving Phalx to stand beside his comrades and listen in.

"You're up early," he began with a short laugh, the hardship of the previous day apparently already behind him. "I was just on my way to talk to you, I assume you have already ready Varins' letter? Good, then you know what is required of you. I have only limited knowledge on the matter which I can offer you I'm afraid. Varin has never had need for a ship of his own, so one can not be provided from House Blackthorn to assist you in his service. Varin wanted me to assure you that he would pay for one to be loaned on this short voyage, but insists that no trace of you being out of the City has anything to do with House Blackthorn, and therefore cannot. Plus it would mean having to dispose of the ships own Captain once the task was complete, which might make returning the ship even more suspicious. No, Varin has instead promised that any gold of your own you do need to spend to see this mission succeed will be returned to you once the task is complete, along with a sum of payment of course. He has also insisted that, as you are likely to be commandeering a vessel and no doubt committing a few crimes along the way, you leave all ties to this estate behind on this one, be they physical, emotional, even your names if so be. Whatever happens out there, you've never heard of us."

Sevro took a moment to collect the six House Blackthorn pins that had been granted to them upon entering Varins' service, one from each of them. He then nodded at the two Corsairs.

"You two should know what you require. I suggest you head to the Nobles Market, as it is both closer and is in a better state than the Commoners' one. Buy what you need, including rations to last a few weeks. The journey by sea should not take that long, but it never hurts to have too many."

Sevro indicated towards the stables, suggesting they should ride out to make their journey to the Market and back faster, and waited for Caraoc and Casaythe to take the hint and move away before he continued.

"You lot keep an eye on them two. Varin has need of their skills, but does not trust them as much as he does you or I, not yet. If necessary, see that they bring you back safely and then dispose of them before you return to Vikarh. As I said, there are no ties to House Blackthorn out there on this one, so nobody will even notice they are gone."

The option was harsh, but even Vryala and Elysian nodded in understanding while K and Phalx simply smiled as they considered the violence. For Varin, secrecy was of the utmost importance, but perhaps they would learn that the Corsairs' were to be trusted after all...

Working off the books was no problem for Elysian, it was only recently that he had been on any kind of legitimate books at all. Still he was surprised to feel a pang of regret at handing over the icon of the house. It had been an achievement gaining acceptance into what might pass for the retinue of a powerful noble. The prospect of grand larceny cheered him though.

"So we need to steal a boat. I guess that means a trip down to the docks after the market but first let me ask this, how big a boat do we need? Theft I can do but boats..."

Off to the market to buy supplies. He also wants to talk to a weapons smith to talk about commissioning something. Simple but not likely to be on the shelf; a detachable spear head for the butt of his staff.

Sevro had already come to them, providing the required intel; V shivered a bit when she removed the Blackthorn sigil from her armour - this would be the first time venturing into battle without it since signing the blood contract. Beyond that, she figured she could well pass for a generic sailorwoman. The Captain's instructions regarding the Corsairs came as no surprise to her, after all the sea dogs had yet to prove their undivided loyalty. The call of the ocean clearly had a strong hold on the two, and she considered the possibility of them rebelling, shedding their ties to Varin in favour of a new life at sea.

This would not do. Vryala resolved on the spot to work on her balance more diligently than ever, in order to take away any advantages Casaythe may have over her in a sword fight on deck. But first, to the Markets. To her regret, she realised this would be the last time she got to ride Blanky for quite some time to come.

Vryala will scour the stalls for:
- grenades
- dry rations and a stash of fresh water
- carrots for Blanky
- basic sailoring gear (probably has to take some cues from the Corsairs for this one).

Singing aloud, yo-ho!
"When first I landed in Vikarh, I went upon the spree
My hard-earned cash, I spent it fast, got drunk as drunk could be,
And when me money was all gone, 'twas then I wanted more,
But a man must be blind for to make up his mind to go to sea once more.

Once more, once more, to go to sea once more
But a man must be blind for to make up his mind,
To go to sea once more."

Hmmm. Salty air, seagull shouts.
But before that, there was some preparation to achieve.

Supposing they had a proud schooner to sail with, the six of them would be more than sufficient to handle the sails and it would prove fast enough to escape most pursuers.
Schooners. Such ships were fast, real fast. And simple. Even if the four mercenaries were useless at sea, the two corsairs could do the task by themselve, albeit more slowly.

In this season, the winds were mostly fair. Icebergs were not yet let loose, that would come much later, in the spring. In the open seas, they would be able to speed up.
The last part was the trickiest. Many hidden reefs in that area, the most prudent would be probably to anchor by night, whatever long the nights would be.

Caraoc made a quick computation.
Eight days maximum to go there.
The description of the former shipyard is not enough, but I expect Blackthorn to tell us something more accurate. Let's add three days to be on the safe side.
Then we would have to find a safe. Probably to secure it with some deception and camouflage. One more day.
For the trip back, the winds are good at the start, but there will be the long path inside the Bay with adverse winds. That may take anywhere between ten and fifteen days.
Add a couple of days to evade some High Elves, but tis is not the season.

Caraoc told to Casaythe:
"One month at sea to expect."
That meant two month's food and one month's water.
"Congrats, cap'n, you'll soon be on your own ship!"
He added at mid voice:
...with my treasure...er, our treasure... precioussss...

Planning. Singing again!

Upon receiving the final meagre instructions from Sevro K stalked off with the others in silence, musing what she might do about it all. never been to sea, didn't know what she might need, felt fairly sure that all their gold would not buy them a ship so they would have to steal one, and sail like blazes with four non-sailors and two of ... unknown quality. Who she might have to try to kill. On board ship, where they clearly had the advantage.

She needed to look like a Corsair so she knew she needed a scaly cloak like they all wore. As to the rest, she would have to ask the Corsairs, and she could see they might play a trick. They might perhaps think more than once about trying to trick Karonath.

K will head to the markets with the rest and take the Corsairs recommendations.

A small bottle of whiskey. It was good stuff, possibly dwarvern. Phalx wasn't overly concerned, it stung like a biatch and settled his mind. Death damned sea, bloody fish elves is what they are. He talked to himself as he supped his bottle. Up he headed from the vast cellars. No one bothered him, near everyone who might knew or cared were aware that the cellars were one of his frequent retreats. Piss and blood, who else? Let them take one of these corsairs.

He joined the others, unaware of their cold glances. He only half listened to Servo. He'd keep an eye on the new bloods. He took the pin and finished the small bottle. As they headed to the market, he threw the bottle in the air. With one easy motion he had Deathspitter raised. the bottle shattered into a tiny cloud of glass. He chuckled to himself, swaying ever so slightly. Well once more unto death. His wounds were still sore, his mind still frayed. Balls to it, he'd been in worst sorts. His scarred faced settled, his tattered cloak fluttering behind him.

Phalx will follow the others. He's looking for fine unfletched crossbow bolts, some poisons, more bolts, and.... I think that is it.

The ride to the Nobles Market was swift and uneventful, the mercenaries finding that at just a few minutes past dawn the City was still mostly sleeping. Work had however already begun on repairing the damage done the day before, and teams of slaves were being escorted here and there, and already out clearing the main roads of their dead. They suspected by the time they returned from this short venture for Varin, most signs of last nights battle would have been erased. Quite how long it would take to repair the east wall of Vikarh they were not sure, but no doubt that would be the Drachs' first priority. Such thoughts mingled with excitement, doubts or curiosity about the task that lay ahead now that they knew what was involved. Some members of the group were unsure exactly what they would need to buy, so they looked to Casaythe and Caraoc as they rode into the quiet marketplace. Many stalls were not yet open, perhaps because their keepers had been killed the night before, but all the essentials were on sale.

A months rations for one Druchii would cost 120 gold. Caraoc insisted that this be the time they expected to spend at sea, but more food should be taken just in case.

Water was on sale, but for the six of them they would require several barrels of it, and Casaythe suggested that they wait until they reach the docks and buy it there.

Karonath found a Sea Dragon Cloak for 200 gold. If anyone else wanted one, there were several available at the same price.

Vryala could not find her favourite exploding vials. Carrots for Blanky would only cost 2 gold. Strong sailors rope cost 30g each.

Phalx couldn't find any more poisons at this time, but he and everyone else could restock on crossbow bolts for 5g a clip. Bolts were in short supply after the battle hence the pushed up price. Unfletched bolts were 10g a clip.

Elysian meanwhile was looking for a weaponsmith who could commission a spear tip to attach to his staff, but could not find one at that time, and doubted even if he did it would be ready in time before they left the docks.

OOC - Please clearly state your purchases so I can add up the cost and let you know what gold to deduct from your inventory. If you want any other items just say what you are looking for...

Casaythe nodded subtly at Caraoc. This could be the opportunity he had been waiting for, all along. After suffering the appalling city of Vikarh for so many months, it all seemed worth it. His fortune had improved. 'Just keep things quiet, matey. I don't want the Noble's lot getting a whiff of...' He halted mid sentence, realising it was not safe to discuss anything within the walls of the city.

After a short ride to the Nobles Market, he explained to hold on purchasing water. It was pricey and from the look of the merchant stall where it was being sold, was likely the more up market version, luxuriously imported from the Chaotica Umbra as glacier ice and melted down. Casaythe never bored with the over indulgences of the higher echelons within Druchii society.

He purchased a month's rations, and then moved on to pick up a Sea Dragon Cloak. Whilst he was perusing the stalls, he picked up a small toolkit containing a chisel, hammer, hand-drill, and pliers. He had no idea what state the ship they would sail in would be like, but had experienced enough voyages to know that many a ship had sank from lack of a hammer.

Tempted by the stall selling venom blossom, courva, black sarissa, and other such intoxicating herbs, he pondered about stocking up on illicit substances, then thought better of it. He had the distinct feeling he would need his wits about him.

Milling about the market with Caraoc.

Purchased Sea Dragon Cloak (200g), 1 month's rations (120g), and a tool set.

Caraoc completed his ammunitions on the market. The prices were high but his purse was full.
The food was of appropriate quality. He selected only what would remain eatable after weeks at sea. Two months's worth for himself.

The outfit would be found in a specialized shop near the docks.
Caraoc needed navigation tools, a Back staff, a Davis' quadrant, a Cross staff, a telescope, a compass rose, a North stone, a sextant, a Mariner's astrolabe, a barometer, a log, a full set of flags, a transit board, a traverse board and its plugs, a couple of sounding leads, an hourglass, a whistle, a taximeter, a set of charts, some portulans, an armillary sphere, dividers, folding rules, acorn, vane... or some of it.
He would leave Casaythe to check for the other outfit, rigging, ropes, hawsers, cables, whips, chains, grapnels, lifelines, lashing, anchors, chandlery, buckets, handspikes, a luff tackle, hooks, fenders, bailers, swabs, grapnels, oars, sails... some could be on board already.

What would be the most difficult would be to get the ship itself.
We were told to find one ship to be loaned on this short voyage.
With no crew but the six of us.
Loaned really? Pfff!!
Normally, the only way to loan a ship is with the full complement, in order to grant the owner a reasonable likelihood of coming back.
Here, we have not much to give as a guarantee. We cannot even use a trusted name.

Caraoc resumed the situation to the Captain.
"The only way I can think about is to give the gold equivalent to the value of the ship, with the promise to receive back the gold less the rental fee."
Going further would necessitate to be on the docks.

Buying 13 clips and 2 month seafarer's food.

No weapon smith, a shame; he had rather hoped to have the piece ready for when they came back. Still there were one or two things he could get. First of all food, disregarding anything that would spoil he was left looking at some pretty unappetising stuff but he had eaten worse before his gift had manifested itself. Caraoc seemed to think a two months supply was best and he was after all the expert, mad as he might be. Two months it would be. The corsairs were buzzing all around for things to buy but Elysian was damned if he could think what would be needed. One thing did spring to mind although it had little to do with travel. If he couldn't commission a spear head to fit his staff perhaps he could make one given time and experimentation. He would have time on this cruise no doubt since he was no sailor. He would need metal, enough for several tries and some smithing paraphernalia. Hammer, tongs, perhaps some kind of small anvil if possible. Heat he could manage without a forge.

So two months of food for 240g. Some un-worked metal of as high a quality as can be found (good steal, if I can pull it off I want a decent spearhead). A blacksmith's hammer probably two, one small one larger. Tongs and a light anvil of some kind if one can be found that can be transported without the aid of an ox cart.

Phlax wandered about the stalls. His poison guy wasn't here, probably one of the many dead. The market was half bear, and everything was three times the price, or might as well be. He saw some of his comrades looking over cloaks and the like, and he instinctively drew his old ragged one closer about himself. In quick order he had all he wanted, including the unfletched bolts. He patted one of his many pockets, feeling the Cockatrice feather hidden within. At least it would give him something to do on that blasted ship, whenever they found one.

Phlax will purchase
-One clip of unfletched bolts (10g)
-Ten clips of regular bolts (50g)
-2 months worth of sea rations (240g)
-Some cheap spirits (Whatever you deem appropriate.)

OOC - Calisson, is the real sailor in you coming out now? I have no idea what most of that stuff is or would cost, so just assume it is all included below or already on the ship you later make use of...

Nightcall, I assume you will take 2 months rations of food like the rest?

The group didn't stop at the market long, the Corsairs' leading the way around the stands that were unfamiliar to the other members of the group, picking out all manner of seemingly irrelevant but apparently essential items. Eventually the four lost interest and started to search the stalls for things of their own, most of the group looking to restock their crossbow clip supplies whilst also pursuing individual desires. Phalx took to finding more drink, while Elysian set his mind to smithing and found a small portable anvil and the tools he needed to use it. Vryala decided it wouldn't hurt to have some extra ropes to hand, despite Caraoc splashing out on a whole kit of sailing equipment that contained ropes as well. Karonath made sure to get rations with the others, but seemed a little lost as to whether or not she would need to buy any of the sailing stuff for her own. Casaythe meanwhile found a good fitting Sea Dragon Cloak and purchased it, before he regrouped with the others just in time before they departed. They loaded their horses with the stuff that Caraoc had bought for the ship, only now starting to wonder how exactly they were going to obtain such a vessel at the docks.

By the time they returned to House Blackthorn, the sun was up and the frost had melted away, leaving only the permanent bed of snow that kept all plant life at bay throughout most of the winter, save the hardy pine trees that lined the surrounding areas and the land to the south. Inside the estate however, the snow had mostly been cleared by the house slaves. The Guard Captain watched them return from the wall above the gate and had his men open the way for them just as they approached, the mercenaries trotting their steeds back to the stables and unloading their purchases, distributing them evenly and trying to find the best way to carry the stuff on foot for the meantime. Sevro requested they ensure they have everything they need, and leave anything unnecessary behind at the estate. Their instruction was to head straight to the docks in search of a vessel with which they could complete their new task, be it one bought, loaned, commandeered or outright stolen. All that mattered was that nobody knew Blackthorn was involved. Sevro went into the house for some time while they were double checking their belongings, returning with what could only be the tablet covered in a tatty blanket under one arm.

When he reached them, he handed the package to Vryala, but spoke loud enough for all of them to hear.

"Try not to let on that you're carrying a priceless artifact, eh? Keep it safe, you must not let this thing fall into the wrong hands."

He then lowered his voice, so only Vryala could hear.

"Look after yourself."

Having retrieved the artifact from Sevro, Vryala quickly stuffed it down her bag - not too close to the opening, no need to make it easy on any would-be pickpocket. She nodded in response to his farewell. You too, my love...

The navigation equipment Caraoc had found was basic but sufficient.
Along with the chart and his own knowledge, with the occasional help from his good friends the stars, he was ready to steer any ship to the right destination.

Caraoc and Casaythe were happy to go to the docks, as they had been doing many times during the last months. Except that this time, it would not be in vain.

-=-=-

During the walk, Caraoc told the group about his worries.
Their instruction was to head straight to the docks in search of a vessel with which they could complete their new task, be it one bought, loaned, commandeered or outright stolen.
The problem was that if they did openly something outright illegal such as stealing a ship and killing a crew, they would not be able to come back, ever.
Caraoc and Casaythe were still strangers and they might be able to make a life elsewhere. But the other four? No, the ship had to be gotten legally.
One more reason not to steal a ship was that they needed to embark their provisions and to check the rigging and sails, and possibly to get some complementary equipment.
The only safe option was really to get the ship legally.
At least, in appearance.

This is where the whole group could be handy, along with a bit of luck.
They needed a small ship. The crew would be necessarily small.
In order to become the legitimate owner of the chosen ship, they would have to expel the former crew.
One way to investigate was gambling. They were rich enough for betting high, and Elysian in the shadows could help twist the fate until the ship was Casaythe's.
In case the ship's captain did not gamble, a brawl could be the way to put all crewmembers out of commision. Usual sailors were no match to the mercenaries. The group would then offer to embark as a new complement. And whoever was left from the former crew could have a convenient "accident".

In any case, that would leave time to check all rigging and outfit, and embark food and drink and whatever would have been found missing, before getting underway.
And going underway legally would not raise suspicion, nor ask for a pursuit.

-=-=-

The group arrived at the docks.
In the winter, traffic was light. The ice in the river was thin enough to allow to steer through it and make way to the sea.
However, that would tear hulls and sailors would avoid that if not an absolute necessity.

Moored pierside, there were a dozen ships to consider.
A barquentine, sturdy, appropriate size but slow, better for fishing.
A brig, quite too large for six sailors.
A brigantine, a little bit too complex for such a reduced crew.
A coaster, not fit for oceanic journeys.
A cutter, quick, rather easy to sail, but quite fragile especially in the hands of a small crew.
A drifter, just good for fishing.
A frigate, way too large.
A ketch, very nice looking, excellent in adverse winds, slower in following winds.
A lugger, robust and powerful, but complex and slow.
A schooner, fast, elegant, Caraoc's favorite but this one was quite large.
A sloop, a good bet, sturdy, rather large but not too fast.
A yawl, excellent against the wind, faster but not as easy to handle as the ketch.

Caraoc asked Casaythe:
"Cap'n, which one do you chose? Maybe we will find the Willbreaker with it?"

Selecting ship. Trying to take possession of it as legally as seemingly possible.

Strolling the docks, Vryala felt an odd sensation taking hold of her. Her patrols had on occasion taken her to these parts, but never with the intent to actually sail out and explore the world. Now given the opportunity, she couldn't help but contemplate the variety of challenges that lay beyond the borders of the coast. Eager to learn, she stuck close to Caraoc, who was mumbling sagely beyond his years as the group took note of the vessels about the harbor. One of them in particular caught V's eye.

A ketch, the wind-mage uttered upon being asked, though V wasn't certain he even registered who posed the question, so caught up in thought he seemed. Vryala immediately fell in love with the ship. It was sleek but fierce, rugged but elegant; much like Blanky, and she realized, much like she herself.

I want that one!

Vryala wishes to obtain the ketch.

Wondering through the dock Elysian reflected that he knew nothing about boats. They needed a small one of course, a towering warship in the Drach's personal berth was definitely out of the question for a start. The selection of ship was something best left to the corsairs though as usual Vyrala seemed to have some pretty strong opinions.

"A couple of questions sailor boys. Do the crews tend to sleep on their ships when they are in port or do they sleep in the inns and whore houses even when they can hold their liquor? Second how quickly can one of these tubs be made ready enough to escape the harbour? If we are releaving people of their property it will require stealth and speed. I doubt we can afford to buy or even rent one of these things. Failing that we might try a word with the madam of the Mermaid, as I understand it most of the merchant captains frequent it when in port. It was some time ago but some of my former... associates, used to do business with her."

He didn't fell the need to share the details of his past in organised crime with the corsairs but old Kythara might be willing to help them if he could persuade her to remember old times fondly. Then again he hadn't seen her for over a year; she could well have been killed in the battle.

Just making conversation and throwing out some options.
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

Phalx glanced at Servo, stowing the small hide of whiskey in his breast pocket. There involvement was no secret, but what had he passed to the witch now? Elysian was talking to the sea rats. They were all looking over different ships, picking and choosing as if it was a lobster for a fine meal. The Shade had no eye for such things, so trained his on the folks around him. If they were going to seize a ship no doubt there would be blood, none of his if he could help it.

Phalx will look over the ships and the docks. He's looking for where the most resistance is to be had, an anything else of note that may help them in their piracy.

His fortune had dwindled almost as quickly as it had grown, and as they returned to the Estate for the tablet, the corsair hoped that the trip would compensate at least... or make him a wealthy elf. Sevro gave the tablet to the one he trusted most, Casaythe was certain there was something going on between those two... "You too, my love" Vryla said softly, and the corsair grinned out of their sight. He knew it! The group at last set out towards the docks in search of a ship.

Caraoc explained his dilemma to the group, and Casaythe mused over the problem. He was quite right. Piracy was an honest trade if you were a Druchii, but you couldn't go around raiding the ports of Naggaroth unless you had a death wish. The pilot rambled on, as he was wont to do, and then it hit him...

'Caraoc, I have an idea.' He pulled his friend aside. 'Let's take a look at the docks, look for a nice pretty thing fit for sailing in. Then befriend the captain and invite him for drinks in an inn. Might be a good way to get this lot to settle down a bit too.' he said as he gestured to the other four with them, Phalx still a concern of his.

'Remember my bad stroke of luck? Would it not be so difficult to obtain a ship in the same way?' he grinned, referring to the disastrous game of dice in which his own ship had been cheated from him.

'With your powers, surely you could turn the dice in our favour...' he winked, before smiling at the rest of their companions.

Slapping Elysian heartily on the back as the smell of sea air filled his nostrils, Casaythe replied, 'Yes, and yes. A warm bed's better than the cold planks of the cargo deck. We can make a ship ready fast enough. Especially if we have a willing and able crew. Don't you worry matey, we've got this all under control.' Or at least he hoped.

Scheming, wants to find a nice ship, then gamble it off the captain, enslaving him and his crew in the process in a perfectly legal manner.

The mercenaries left the estate shortly after their return, taking with them everything they thought they might need on this short voyage at sea. They left their mounts behind this time, instead heading south through the waking City in the direction of the docks. To get there they had to head almost as far as the Commoners Market and then head west, and by the time they reached their destination the sun was up, gently warming their skin despite the cold breeze from the river. The docks were an impressive sight for those that had never been there, more than a dozen ships anchored in on this, the south side of the river. The River Spite was wide here, though it narrowed again before it left Vikarh, making this the perfect location to have a small harbour.

Piers led out to the sides of each of the anchored ships, and most of them were occupied by small crews either loading or unloading their vessels. Dozens of slaves milled about on the riverside, carrying boxes and crates from ship to ship or off onto large storage piles or the back of waiting carts. The far side of the river was left open to allow river traffic to pass, meaning whatever ships they could see here were the only ones currently stationed in Vikarh. Caraoc gave the group a quick run down of which boat was which, and what they were used for. There were two of some, and several of most of the smaller types used for shoreline fishing and patrols. Only a couple of the medium sized raiding vessels seemed to be unmanned, no doubt waiting for the ice to melt further up the coastline before they went hunting for human slaves in the north. Of course, most of the real slave raids were launched from the seaside City of Karond Kar, and many of the vessels here would spend their lives simply going back and forth across the Sea of Malice.

With so many other people about the group had to find somewhere quiet to discuss their next move, so followed Elysian and Casaythes' advice in finding a small tavern in which to sit and scheme, the Shrieking Mermaid.
