Kayla left the guardhouse with a vast sense of disappointment. Her fun had been cut short, rather rudely by some ugly as sin looking corsair. Fifteen guards in a room was a challenge, one which Kayla would have risen to if given the chance.

Out in the courtyard it was bright, brighter still when the sun breached the horizon to glare balefully into her eyes. She blinked rapidly, and when her vision unclouded the sight set before Kayla made her smile. This day is full of failed challenges...

"Form ranks you filthy rats, are you not the fearsome raiders of Naggaroth? Are you not dark elves? Form ranks dammit and show these fools why they should fear the druchii." Kayla was already in motion when the cry of the good captain was heard.

"Form around me, lads." She cried in a voice like thunder as she charged into the centre of the human line. "We'll show these humans how it's done!" The warrior let forth a viscious battle cry as she barrel-rolled herself into the line of neatly arranged knights, attacking with both sword and shield.

Kayla hopes to get the Bretonnians attention with her battle cry and seemingly rash actions. After her initial attack on the knights she will then go strictly defensive to allow the corsairs to form up around her for mutual support. Only once the corsairs are suitably position will she push the attack.

OOC: Take 2, let's see if the iPod agrees with what I try to post this time :l

IC: As soon as her vision had cleared Kayla set off toward the most dangerous part of the bretonian line, calling for the nearby corsairs to folks her. The knights broke through the first ranks of the still-dazed corsairs, but when the first reached Kayla she swung her shield out hard into the knees of his charging horse, the horse collapsed and the knight was thrown forward onto Kayla's waking blade. Quick as the warrior had dispatched the first horseman a second charged at her, his lance lowered, however Kayla had plenty of time to steady herself and Cath the weapon on her shield, the knights momentum carried him past Kayla and into her entourage of corsairs, who quickly set about pulling the man from his saddle and cutting him down.

Across he courtyard, by the gate Calis and Khitai turned around in time to see the two lines clash together. While Khitai disappeared into the loose ranks of the corsairs, attempting to get to the front and join the fight, Calis hunkered down by the gate and pulled out his human crossbow, he loaded one of last remaining bolts and searched for a target. Some kind of leader would be opportune, and any such noble would likely be kitted out in the choicest finery, probably mounted too, Calis quickly scanned the knights who were carving thier way through the raiding party's left side, one of them had distinctly more plumage spouting off his helmet than the others as well as several golden charms that set him apart. Calis took aim, breathed out a Dryll had shown him, and squeezed the trigger. The bolt flew across the courtyard and embedded itself in a gap in the champion's armour, the man sagged in the saddle but remained upright and began to pull away from the fight, meanwhile several of the yoemen saw the shot and began to turn thier efforts to turning Calis into an oversized pincushion.

Khitai barged his way through the corsairs untill he was almost at the frontline, where the druchii ahead of him suddenly sprouted a polearm and lifted from the ground, only to jerk to the side and deposit hisself on the ground nearby. The owner of the offending weapon almost dropped it when he saw Khitai, drenched in blood not all his own with an arrow sticking out of him and a slightly faraway look in his eyes the khainite was a sight to behold. Khitai swiftly put the gawking man out of his misery before having to deflect a spear coming from his right, the parry jarred his shoulder and he winced before lashing out at the soldier who had attacked him, severing the man's wrist and allowing the next corsiar down the line to deal with him, the same elf moments later fell to the floor, a pair of arrows sticking out his chest.

Kayla is in amongst the bretonian knights with about half a dozen corsairs following her, Calis is still by the gate but now under pressure from blacker, Khitai is at the frontline but suffering (as you would expect anyone to suffer after found rigorous exercise with too much metal sticking out of them), overall the battle is a relative stalemate: corsairs have dwindled to ~15, 2 of the knights are dead and 1 is wounded, there are a few less than 20 men at arms and 9 yoemen now. Any questions? And finally carry on.

<Suddenly time accelerated back to normal pace.>
Calis'Shad had drawn a line of will between his finely crafted crossbow and the Bretonnian lord's life.
The loose bolt had embraced that path, devouring the last yards with ferocious appetite, and stuck fiercely into the noble's chest, sucking his life away.
The noble survived for the moment, but the outcome was outstanding: he retreated from combat.
Not only the humans would miss his superior fighting capability, but also they would no longer benefit from his leadership and inspiring presence.

-=-=-

A couple of annoying arrows flying way too close broke Calis'Shad concentration.
Looking around, he realized that the cover formerly provided by the yelling corsairs had moved forwards and had now blended into a raging melee.
Calis'Shad seemed to have become the bowmen's only legitimate target.
Worse, an easy target, as he was standing still, alone without cover. A rather small and stealthy target, but soft and vulnerable.

The escape was right behind. Live and fight another time.
Plunging away from the incoming rain of arrows, Calis'Shad bounced and rushed in an erratic run towards the nearby open gate.
Once he passed the portcullis, he turned right and took cover behind the castle's walls.
Easy. Breathe. Relax.

There, he considered the situation.
Good point, the arrows had ceased to target him.
From his cover, he could well see the portcullis mechanism that he had lifted minutes before.
But only one bolt left. Even with the staunchest optimism, it was difficult to consider that a half-full glass.

He placed the last bolt on the finely crafted crossbow.
Then, taking advantage of being in the shadows of the castle, he threw an eye around the corner.
As soon as he was confident that nobody aimed at him anymore nor would come at him, Calis'Shad rushed inside the courtyard, zigzagging in order not to provide any target for bowmen.

Quickly, he reached the battleline.
There, rather than running into an underdog fight with his short sword, he looked among the fallen corsairs, trying to find some clips full of bolts, in order to feed his own, trusted repeater crossbow.

Escaping out of the castle.
Returning to the melee in search for more bolts.

Khitai was now in front rank, and sliced what ever came in his way. He truly felt the pain in the shoulder, but he just kept going. He change somewhat strategy though, he started blocking in comming attacks, so the other corsairs could hit back.

His sword went up and down - right to left and in and out blocking the attacks in range, at the same time timeHey yelled
Charge full attack forward you filthy seamen, I will block the attacks comming in
Khitai's range of blocking was surpriseingly long, and the corsairs noticed it and took advantage of it.
One guard stumbled forward out of balance after Khitai blocked his attack, and Khitai found an opening and time to slice his back from shoulder down his backside.

The battle was truly messy, but somehow the elfs had control and started to get the upper hand, much thanks from the wounded Khainte.

Blocks all the attacks he may reach and handle, and throw in some stabs and slices when uppertunitys come

In amongst the few knights remaining and supported by a half dozen corsairs, Kayla was still acting on the defensive so her new found allies could bring the knights down quickly. The warrior crouched slightly and held her shield up over her head to protect herself from any incoming blows, she then executed a whirlwind attack as she spun around on the spot. She lashed out with two heavy and perfectly timed blows to strike at the back of the two horses which stood at either side of her, hacking them at the tendons behind the knees to make the knights fall forward from their mounts into the waiting corsairs.

Flanked by the falling knights and more corsairs, Kayla turned her attention back to the enemy in front, settling back into her defensive posture. Once she'd appraised the enemy she then attacked shield-first to draw in more Bretonnians for quick disposal.

Quick attacks to neutralise the knights before going on the defensive again. Once more opponents have reached her Kayla will attack to take down another two.

Calis realised that the tide of the melee had moved away from him, leaving him a very open target for the yeomen who could no longer fire accurately into the combat for fear of hitting thier allies. He hopped up and set off running toward the castle gate just in time for two arrows to hit the dirt where he had been crouched moments before. Calis made it to the gateway between the courtyard and the rest of Bretonnia without so much as a scratch and quickly took stock of the battle, it was going bad, the corsairs were being pushed back everywhere except for a few scattered points. He lifted his last, loose bolt and fitted it into his precision crossbow, Calis knew he wouldn't be much good without his bows and his bows wouldn't be much good without arrows, so he set off back across the courtyard in search of spare ammunition. Again Calis crossed the courtyard without incident and disappeared into the right edge of the mass of druchii and humans, away from the yeomen's arrows, and quickly found a dead corsair. The elf was young, 60 at most, with a face only distinguishable by it's forgetability, but on the upside he had been carrying a handbow and had several small clips of bolts on him. Just as Calis was pulling one of the clips from the boys pocket something made him look up, just in time to roll away from a polearm that almost skewered him and drop the clip in the process.

Not far down the line Khitai was holding against the men-at-arms, lashing out at anything that tried to come within a swords length of him or the corsairs nearest him, deflecting polearms and severing limbs alike with his swords. Unfortunately his right arm was getting weaker with every parry and as it did more and more attacks got past him. The first corsair on his right died as the blunt side of a human weapon crushed his skull, and he was replaced by another who eventually fell speared through the chest, finally the girl from the rigging stepped up beside him and she lasted longer than the others but she too was cut down and slowly but surely the druchii line began to fall back to Khitai's right.

Kayla hunkered down as the two remaining knights came around for another charge, the corsairs had yet to catch up with her so again the knight's sole attention was on Kayla. Again Kayla knocked aside the lances that bore down on her, then as the horsemen passed her she swung in a circle with her arms outstretched, hamstringing the mounts and sending one of the knights toppling backward. The other horse managed to stumble forward far enough that it collapsed among the corsairs and it's trapped rider was easy pickings for them. Thier celebrations were cut short as a corpse came landed with a thud next to them. Looking back it was not hard to see the source of the airborne corsair, the door to the gatehouse stood open and Bretonnians were pouring out and at thier head was the obvious leader of the garrison, wearing shining steel armour and carrying a giant falchion. A few druchii had moved to intercept the new threat, but much fewer than there were humans. Just as Kayla and her entourage noticed this however the men-at-arms ahead of them pushed on with renewed vigour.

Calis is on the left flank in amongst the melee with a Bretonnian bearing down on him, Khitai is in the left-centre and is doing a decent job of holding the line, Kayla is on the far right now soon to be sandwiched between the first group of Bretonnians and the new group, the troops count stands at ~15 bretonnians in the front and ~15 near the guardhouse, 1 knight wounded, 1 knight unseated and 7 yeomen, there are a little over 10 corsairs left standing not including any heroes (Kayla, Calis, Khitai, Gareth, etc). Carry on.

As Kayla spun round and expertly hamstringed the two knights she could not help but notice more Bretonnians pour into the fray from the guardhouse. Kayla sighed. She could well have finished off the guards in their quarters, but no, the stupid corsairs had to send her out here, didn't they? And now a lot of them were dead. Will people never learn?

"Corsairs! Two of your strongest with me!" She commanded in a thunderous voice as she stepped up to the knight who had fallen backwards from his horse. The warrior quickly stabbed him twice with her sword, in the neck and in the heart. Her shield was held out wide and as soon as she was sure the fallen knight was out for good, Kayla turned to face the encroaching men-at-arms and let loose a predatory growl to invite them in as, once again, she settled into her defensive posture. "Keep to my flanks. I'll get their attention!"

The demonic warrior set her sights on one (un)lucky peasant in amongst his comrades, Kayla glowered at him balefully with all the hatred of a hundred years of bloodshed giving voice as she unleashed a viscious scream at him. Wasting no time the fierce warrior erupted from her turtle-shell stance into the startled peasant shield first, charging into the midst of the Bretonnians who she fully expected to attack her from the sides. As she reached the human line, eyes not leaving her chosen victim, her shield swung to her left at the first man in her path - with all the strength of a charging and bloodthirsty Kayla behind it - whilst, simultaneously, she swung out wide and low then up and round by her side; more to keep the enemy at bay rather than cause any actual wounds.

Kayla brought her sword out wide and reigned it in as she settled her shield forward just as she reached Mr. Unfortunate. She feigned an overhead swing with her broadsword (a false attack but would still cause a splitting headache if it connected) but Kayla had not slowed her momentum and she charged into the man shield first. Putting extra muscle behind Tolerance she pushed her shield out forward to shove the man backwards. Instead of capitualising on her charge attack, Kayla backstepped, hacking her sword out low to chop at the men's feet while she held her shield up to protect her head and shoulders.

Having cleared a nifty corridor for herself, Kayla was now fully focused on the enemy to either side. Using her shield to block incoming attacks from her left and her shield to parry and riposte attacks coming in from the right. Her corsair companions would, hopefully, know what they needed to do.

Kayla has charged in amongst the men-at-arms (they're only peasants, how dangerous can they be?) and after her initial assault has once again gone on the defensive and will slowly fight her way backwards while the corsairs take the fight to the humans at her side. Should be easy kills for the corsairs as Kayla has, mod willing, attracted the enemies attention (or scared them shitless - which is preferable). Supported by the two corsairs, Kayla will efficiently hack her way through all of the Bretonnians.

OOC: Bit of a long and probably not a very sensible post there, lol. But it is highly likely that I am not going to be able to post for at least a week (should be next Monday/Tuesday) so wanted to keep you busy ;)

Kayla will chop her way through the men-at-arms supported by her two new freinds. If she survives she will then go after the Lord wounded by Calis's bolt if he is still around, if not then she'll head along to where she will be needed the most.

Smiler, I trust you will take good care of Kayla

And please don't wait for me another week (what with being ill and all the silly shenanigans with the library I feel that I've held the group up too much already), you guys should just keep going with the RP!

So far, Calis'Shad had managed to escape the rain of arrows and the attention of warriors.
He was now back to the central melee.
Calis'Shad needed more bolts. They were to be found amongst lying bodies, and lying bodies were aplenty with the ongoing slaughter.

Here was a vein of bolts and clips. Calis'Shad bent to pick up one, greedily, when his sixth sense made him lift the nose... and plunge away from an incoming polearm.
The range of the pole was longer than his short sword at the end of his short arm. But he had one last bolt.

At point blank range, he left no chance to the peasant, whose chest suddenly showed a rapidly growing red circle.

Quickly, Calis'Shad squatted near the dead corsair with the ammunition he needed.
Now with a full clip inserted inside his trusted "five shooter", he was once more the master of his fate!

He immediately loosened a few ammo into the most threatening peasants, just to show them who was to be ran away from.
Then he finished to plunder the dead mate from his clips and ammo.
As he was now armed with two loaded crossbows, he could help to turn off and crush down the human tide.

Where were Kithai and Kayla? How were they doing? Were them in need of help?
Calis'Shad spotted Kithai, not far. Good, still standing despite his wound. He seemed to have all the help he needed with some of the few corsairs remaining next to him.
And Kayla? Calis'Shad wasn't sure, but there might have been some blue hair occasionally visible at the opposite side of the melee, where the humans were the most numerous. Poor humans.

As there was no immediate need to defend himself or give a hand, Calis'Shad could look for a more strategic target.
Where was the human leader? How would he behave with a bolt pinned in his head?

Filling up his RXB faster than emptying it.
Given the time, loading his human crossbow and looking for the human leader as a precious target.

Khitai held his ground, but he was starting to get tired, after all, he was wounded and only fought with one hand. The number of corsairs descended, and he wasn't sure if they were going to make it.
"What to do? Stay and maybe get killed helping a filthy seamen like Gareth, or run and live in shame"...

There were only one thing to do, "stay and fight"
The will to live gave Khitai more strength to keep going. He kept swinging his sword left and right, denying as manny blows from the humans as possible. He killed of two or three humans that came to close to him. He screemed a warcry and his eyes turned almost red. Then he chanted the corsairs to charge on and not cave in.
"this is the time, time to show this puny humans who decides who's to live and who's to die. Give it all men, deny them further life".

The whole battle filed could hear his warcry, and he felt more rage, a rage that was takeing over his body and spirit. It was almost a crazy thing and a feeling totally unknown to him.

He will stay and fight with a fury unknown to him, parrying incoming blows, and stabbing humans comming to close. He lets a warcry out that the battlefield can hear, and maybe it will boost the grey elfs

upon seeing the mass of bretonnians behind her Kayla called out to a pair of sturdy-looking corsairs and barrelled toward the new threat with the corsairs barely keeping pace. Kayla crashed into the block of men-at arms and sent the first man who got in her way flying, knocking a clear path through the middle of the bretonnians to her chosen target, and quickly crashed through the gap. The bretonnian stood frozen as several hundred pounds of armoured Kayla thundered toward him, however Kayla was brought up short by the baron's giant falchion which hit her shield hard enough to cave it in to almost a right-angle across the centre. Kayla stumbled backward and recovered in time to block a polearm with her now very unwieldy shield, the corsairs had caught up and were now cutting into the still dazed Bretonnians, but they were recovering quickly.

Calis rolled his bow off his shoulder faster than the man-at-arms could pull back from his failed killing blow and planted his last bolt between the man's eyes. The blundering human had crushed many of the dead corsair's bolts, so Calis could only recover 2 clips and a trio of loose bolts that were usable, he slapped a clip home and opened up on the nearby humans. With the local area clear Calis loaded his precision crossbow and hunted for a target and once again the knight came into view, he had retreated almost back to the castle but his flight did not seem to bother the rank and file in fact they fought on harder. Calis fired at the knight anyway and brought him down with a bolt in the throat.

In the centre of the rapidly thinning line Khitai was beginning to flag, the pain and blood loss in his arm made every movement difficult. The pain and frustration and rage built up inside him until he roared a warcry in the face of the nearest bretonnian and cut his throat out. The shout was caught up by the corsairs around him, who fought on harder and cut down the men-at-arms ahead of them.

Calis
+ 1x5 clip
+ 2 loose bolts

Kayla is in the middle of the new bretonnians facing the baron, Calis is on the left side of the courtyard where there are much fewer bretonnians, Khitai is leading a counter-charge with a few corsairs, there are ~5 bretonnians in the front and ~10 near the guardhouse with the baron, 1 knight on foot and 5 yeomen, there are a little under 10 corsairs left standing not including the heroes. Carry on.

The knight wounded by Calis'Shad did not made it to safety. The human crossbow had proven lethally accurate, once more.
Thanks Anath Raema for this outstanding gift!

Bodies, bodies everywhere.
Some were lamenting, most were motionless, a few were even cut to pieces.

There had been more Humans than Gareth had expected. Would more Humans come out of the castle?
During the whole combat, the dwindling Corsair party had faced twice as many Humans.
Now, half of the Humans were down, but so were half of the Druchii. Was it a stalemate?

However, on a second thought, it was obvious that the Druchii were taking an upper hand over the knights.
This was the advantage that had to be pushed.

A single knight on foot was standing amongst 5 yeomen.
They became Calis'Shad next target.

If possible, Calis'Shad will precision-shoot the single knight on foot with his precision crossbow.
If he is masked, then he will rather shoot the yeomen with his repeater crossbow until the single knight becomes visible.

The corsairs seemed to get more courage of the frenzied Khainte and the warcry he gave. The humans on the other hand became stunned for a second of the noise and sight of the frenzied khaintie, and grey elfs took advantage of it.

"Push forward!!!!, slay the petty humans!
Khitai was now in his "own world". Though he moved slower cause of his injury, he did not stopp for a splitt second. He trusted, blocked, sliced and parryed all he could, while chanting to his groupe to give it all. One human after the other fell by his and the corsairs swords, and they were really building momentum and getting the upper hand.
"We have the upper hand, push them back and kill them all!!!!!

He did not know where Cali and Kayla was and how they were holding up, not that it was on his mind at all. He was possessed about killing the humans, and to survive this battle. Some daemon inside him had taken over his mind and body, and an uncontrollable rage was comming out. This could change him forever if he survived this battle. No one could now, only the future could tell.

Khitai chants the grey elfs forward, and he cuts and blocks all he can. The rage and the daemon inside him has taken over his mind and body

The fight was not going at all well. In the confusion of the battle Kayla had somehow got turned around and had charged at the wrong targets! The fearless warrior charged in and took some few of the men at arms out of action, only to be cut short of her charge by a massive falchion which smashed into her shield with considerable force and made it all but useless! The blow hurt more than Kayla would care to admit.

Recovering quickly Kayla deflected an incoming blow from a polearm, as she stepped back to be more in line with her two corsairs friends, she lifted up her arm to grab the pole by it's shaft. She would simply hold onto it to stop it's wielder from doing anything else, and to stop any more peasants from piling into her from that side. As she did this she swung her sword out wide to keep any other enemy at bay while she got herself into position.

Suitably composed once again and kept a firm grip on the pole-arm shaft. She held her sword at the ready to deflect and riposte any incoming blows, the Baron was the more difficult enemy so Kayla kept him in her sights. The blue warrior just hoped the corsairs presence would prove useful, since they were protecting her flanks.

Kayla has gone on the defensive again. She will anticipate attacks coming her way - especially those from the Baron - .

OOC: Smiler, you got Kayla fighting the wrong targets! She was chopping through the Knights to reach the men-at-arms behind them as her ultimate goal was the Lord previously wounded by Calis's bolt. Oh well, never mind, it's done now... Having read my post again, I suppose it wasn't very clear which group she was going after!

Really sorry, had to cut that post short as some friends have turned up... Think I'm in it for the long haul! Drunken shenanigans are imminent :o

EDIT: Added another paragraph, seems to be much better post now :)

Calis surveyed his immediate surroundings, it seemed as though the only things nearby were the dead or dying and Khitai's charge. The next object of Calis's interest was where the last knight had got to, he had seen the man fall from his horse across the courtyard and as he combed the battlefield he spotted him again now directing the yeomen's fire and using them as quite affective cover. The cover didn't last long under a hail of fire from Calis's newly re-fanged Uraithen, the the survivors of the group's heads turned in unison in Calis's direction in time to see him line up a shot and loose a shot at the knight. The knight hit the ground before the bolt could reach him, it instead hit the yeoman behind him, the knight began to sprint for the castle doors followed swiftly by the remaining yeomen.

Between Calis and his victims Khitai was still leading the charge against the men-at-arms through the red mist, his left arm was leaden and basically useless but that didn't stop him cut a swath through the hapless humans. It wasn't until things stopped dying in front of him that his mind slipped back into gear, he realised that things had stopped dying because he had killed his way through every bretonnian in the courtyard proper. Khitai was now stood in a mulch of blood and mutilated flesh with the corsairs that had followed him giving him a wide berth, obviously scared that this mad khainite might start up again and not wanting to be in the way when he did.

Kayla stumbled caught the polearm of her would-be killer and pinned it to his chest with one hand while she killed anything that got too close on her other side, there was very little choice of targets as the corsairs she had brought with her were cutting down anything that came within a swords length, but she kept an eye on the baron who was steadily moving closer. After a few desperate minutes of this defensive fighting in amongst the knot of bretonnians the corsairs they had left behind caught up and began cutting thier way through the throng. One particular figure was carving a path through the men-at-arms incredibly quickly, the odd glimpse of oiled, black steel and blood-covered mace made it obvious that the leader of this venture was finally making his presence known.

Calis is on the right amongst the dead, Khitai is furthest forward with no enemies left in front of him, Kayla is still in the thick of the fighting but now with some more support coming, numbers stand at 1 horseless knight, 2 yeomen (both fleeing), still ~10 men-at-arms and the baron near the guardhouse (there are still men inside), there are currently 3 corsairs with Khitai, 2 with Kayla and 4 with Gareth. Carry on.

Bolts weren't flying nearly as fast as yeomen were fleeing.
Still, three of them had cought their target.
The footed knight had been hit a second time but refused to die and was running to safety.

Nearby, the Bretonnian centre line had crumbled under Kithai's assault with the help of a few corsairs. Far left, the melee was turning better, and Kithai's group would soon join them and help push the tide.

-=-=-

Last bolt, once again.
Shooting inside a melee was never a good idea.
Calis'Shad adjusted his aim towards the castle's door. The fleeing Bretonnians had no way else than this narrow passage.
A fleeing bowman is a future annoying bowman. A locked door is worse than a door blocked open.
The last human passing the door was shot in the back. Hopefully, his body would block the door for some time.

-=-=-

With the pressure now off and no more ammo, Calis'Shad searched once more the fallen bodies for new bolts.

Last bolt to block the castle's door with a corpse.
Searching for more bolts.

Give it all!!.
He chopped and sliced, parried and blocked, it seemed like the number of humans would never end. But suddenly he waved his sword in the air like he was trying to hit a bug, and he didn't stop, cause to him the enemy was right in front of him, but they weren't. Not before one of the corsairs nudge him in the back and said:
"Theyr dead, theyr all dead!.

The daemon left his body and mind, and reality caught up with him.
Khitai stopped and looked around. Soaked in enemy blood, he and a few more corsairs stood amongst a pile of dead body's, both enemy and friendly.

The pain in his arm caught up with him, and it was an agony that almost took his consciousness away. He felt dizzy, and everything became foggy. Just before he felt his knees crumbling underneath himself he said to the other corsairs:
"Help the others, charge on and let your swords drink some more human blood!"He seemed so strong to the corsairs, so he wouldn't let himself fall to his knees before he heard the corsairs give a warcry and charge inth help the others.

He dropped his swords and fell to his knees, he could only hear the noise of battle in the background, a blurry noise.

The pain has caught up with him, falling to his knees and on his way to be unconscious after he has commanded the corsairs to help the others

Thus far the fight had been long and arduous, but Kayla was still ready for more. She still kept a firm grip on the shaft of the pole-arm, she pushed forward with it as hard and as fast as she could before pulling it back, she locked her arm like a vice and held the shaft between her arm and torso, pinning it in place. Taking careful aim with her sword, the warrior unleashed a savage, heavy blow and smashed the shaft in half so that she held the halberd-head.

The blue eyed warrior knew her shield was useless, she also knew that one swing from that vicious looking two-handed falchion could put anyone into a world of hurt. In order to take him down quickly Kayla would need to get in close, the Baron needed space for the best use of his weapon, if the warrior could quickly close the gap and not give her enemy room to manoeuvre his falchion, she could then render him ineffective with it.

Wasting no time Kayla stepped quickly towards her enemy, throwing the head of the pole-arm with an underhand swing directly at the Barons stomach. As she let it fly the female warrior launched herself into another charge, lashing out with her broadsword at anyone who tried to impede her progress. She anticipated the Baron would either side-step the projectile if he could, or try to bat it aside with his two handed sword. Either way would grant the opportunity that Kayla would need.

The warrior came in low, with her left arm held out to stop, deflect, or grab at the Barons weapon, while her sword did it's bloody work and stabbed him until he was dead, and then some for good measure.

Kayla hopes the thrown weapon will distract the Baron enough to give her a advantage. She'll clear the path up to the Baron and close with him as quickly as possible. An attack from him is anticipated so Kayla will block, dodge, grab or deflect it while she attacks with her sword until the Baron is dead.

As the last bowmen fled Calis quickly took in the battlefield, noting that the group with Khitai had slaughtered thier way through the forward block of bretonnians and was quickly turning to join the much bigger fight going on at the guardhouse. Calis then turned his attention back to the retreating humans and sighted once again with his last remaining bolt, aiming to take down a yeoman as he passed through the doors to the castle and keep them open, his crossbow followed his chosen target right up to the last moment before he disappeared into the castle. The bolt flew true and hit the yeoman square in the back, almost certainly killing hit, however the corpse tumbled through the door and failed to keep the humans from slamming it shut. Calis turned back to searching for more ammunition and quickly found a couple of dead druchii who were carrying clips for repeater crossbows, he finished looting in time to look up and see Khitai collapse.

Khitai stood still for a moment, watching the corsairs stare at his blood-soaked form, then summoned up enough will to bark some orders at the druchii and glare at them until they followed them and moved of toward the guardhouse. He dropped to his knees, his legs felt too leaden to carry his weight, and listened to the sound of blood rushing inside his ears. Then watched as blood drifted across his vision. Then the blood was mixed with brown and a dull impact across his front. Then all the colours and sounds receded to black.

In amongst the swirling melee at the guardhouse Kayla swiftly removed the polearm she has holding from it's owner and lopped off the business end of it while her corsair friends covered her. Kayla then simultaneously tossed the polearm-head and herself through the throng of men-at arms aiming for the baron, who easily flicked aside the improvised projectile with his falchion and brought the weapon around to slash at Kayla. Once again the blade connected and, either by coincidence or skill, landed in the same furrow the baron had carved with his first swing, breaking the shield clean in half to drop from Kayla's wrist. Kayla seized her sword with both hands and let loose a flurry of blows that the baron met with equally ferocious parries, the two warriors seemed to be fighting to a standstill until Gareth appeared, battered and scraped, behind the baron and lashed out at the back of his legs. The baron grunted in pain but didn't stop fighting, instead turning and limping backward to keep both Gareth and Kayla in view.

The Baron was a tough nut to crack, but the toughest nuts often tasted the sweetest! Her shield all but useless, the Baron had actually done Kayla a favour by removing it from her arm completely, a useless shield was more a hindrance than a working one. The warrior took Pain in both hands upon the removal of her shield, her sword was not as heavy or as vicious as the Barons, but wielded two-handed by someone with Kayla's natural strength and it could be truly deadly. Wielding such a massive weapon as he was, the Baron could not hope to keep it swinging indefinitely, his stamina would eventually drain and he would become sloppy with fatigue.

Kayla, on the other hand, had no such disadvantage. After a a series of deft parries, counter-thrusts, ripostes, blade-turning and the occasional block, the Baron and Kayla were still going at it like snarling war beasts. Such was her intent on slaying this dangerous foe the warrior didn't even notice Gareth until the Baron had stepped back and he was fighting by her side.

"Flank his right," Kayla told Gareth, her tone brooking no argument from the sea captain. She quickly side-stepped to the left, dipping her sword with her right hand before slashing it diagonally upwards towards the Barons chest, just as the blade was about to connect or be bashed aside, Kayla retracted the sword and quickly stepped in left shoulder first, pushing forward with the considerable strength bound within superbly muscled legs, to push the Baron stumbling away with a shove from her left hand just for added effect. Following this up immediately with a back hand thrust from her sword as she closed the distance between them.

Now Kayla was really mad! Using her gauntleted left fist as a make-shift shield and a formidable club, she used it to deflect and repel the falchion from any vital area of hers, catching the blade at suitable angles for it to whistle harmlessly aside her armoured frame - might well give the poor lady a bruised wrist in the morning! While her left power-fist working to keep the enemies weapon at bay, and the occasional punch should opportunity allow, her sword was also working frenetically, stepping right and left, left and right, executing over-head swings, body thrusts, facial slashes, gut chops, changing the angle of each attack mid-swing to really make the Baron sweat for his impertinence!

Should this confused and angry tactic fail to take down the Baron, Kayla might well leave her weapons back in the stone age and beat the poor man into a bloody pulp with her raging fists!

Working overtime! Kayla will keep attacking until the Baron is down. Should be (a little) easier now that Gareth is helping out.

Becoming simultaneously short of target and ammo, Calis'Shad searched, once more, among the fallen.
Soon, his five-shooter had been replenished and more clips were at hand. One bolt fitted his precision crossbow.

-=-=-

He sensed that something around went wrong. Calis'Shad raised the eye just in time to see Kithai falling flat, his skin awfully pale contrasting with the blood covering most of it.
He was more eager to meet Khaine than me to join Anath' eternal hunt.
On the far right, the melee was going on with rage but it had become unimportant.
Calis'Shad jumped on his feet and rushed to his fallen friend, just two yards away.

-=-=-

With the arrow blocking open the wound, some blood was slowly leaving Kithai's arm and feeding the earth.
Calis'Shad reasoned that some pressure put at the right place could slow down the speed at which the life liquid was leaving.
He placed Kithai on his left side, in a stable position which allowed him to breathe effortless.
Then Calis'Shad removed the arrow from the right shoulder, cutting flesh as little as possible. He plugged the wound with a cloth.
Now Kithai seemed to be sleeping.
Finally, a sea dragon cloak provided a handy blanket, as Kithai was becoming cloder in the morning chill.

-=-=-

That task completed, Calis'Shad looked around to see if some wounded bodies could be fitted back for combat.
If they were Druchii, he would slap gently the cheek to waken them up. To the fittest, he would provide some drink and encourage them to resume and finish the task.
If they were humans, he would cut them the right thumb off. They would sell less on the market but that was still better than corpses.

Attending the wounded, friend or foe, starting with Kithai.

<OOC: Assani having not much to post, I suggest we did not wait for him. ;)
Happy Easter.

OOC: I couldn't quite manage two modposts in a day yesterday, sorry ;)

IC: Calis jumped up and sprinted toward Khitai's motionless body as soon as he saw his friend collapse, all thought of the battle and looting leaving his head. When he got to Khitai the khainite was deathly pale and his breathing was shallow, Calis checked his wound where the arrow still extended from his shoulder, Khitai's blood had begun to clot around the shaft and if it wasn't removed soon it would have to be cut out. Luckily the bretonnian ideal of chivalry extended to thier bowmen, so the arrow was not barbed and slid out easily, Calis quickly tore a patch out of his cloak and pushed it into the wound to prevent any more blood being lost, then the only thing left to do was try and make his friend comfortable and hope that the battle ended soon enough that Khitai could get some proper attention. After stabilising Khitai Calis moved off to see what he could do for others, the first druchii Calis came across had had his belly split open and was in a semi-conscious stupor, desperately trying to hold his insides together, there was little Calis could do for the beside offer comfort and prey to Anath'Reama. The next corsair that responded to Calis's attempts to rouse him was missing his arm below the elbow but otherwise fine and in barely any pain due to the adrenaline rushing through his system, so Calis tied off the limb and handed the corsair a handbow from a nearby corpse, the corsair charged off in the direction of the guardhouse. Calis only found one more druchii that was in good enough condition for him to attempt to heal, this man had no obvious reason for having gone down during the battle, but gone down he had and obviously had his legs trampled by the shifting warriors above, Calis couldn't wake the corsair but he splinted his legs together using a sea dragon cloak and a spear haft - the man wouldn't walk any time soon but his legs would at least have a chance to heal.

As Kayla and Gareth duelled with the baron she called for the highborn to make his way around the bretonnian leader and Gareth aquiested without question, moving into position to take another potentially deadly clear swing with his mace, however as he made to strike the baron Kayla stepped forward with a feint followed by a push that sent the baron backward to almost facing Gareth where he quickly batted aside the mace and followed his slash around to parry Kayla's follow-up attack. After the openning gambit Kayla began to cut and slash at the baron in complex series of motions, knocking aside any counter with he gauntletted fist which swiftly became dented and bloody, Gareth changed his attacks to cover Kayla's brash strategy, raining down heavy blows that the baron could not ignore to allow Kayla opennings to strike at. Nevertheless the baron continued to stop every attack before it reached him, often catching both warrior's weapons on his blade at once, however the human was losing ground with every parry untill his gurad slipped and Gareth struck home a blow to his chest that sent the baron winded and reeling, Kayla seized this opportunity, diving in behind the baron's guard she stabbed upward and pierced clean through his head. With thier leader dead the bretonnian's began to panic and tried to flee, however they were trapped between the druchii and the guardhouse wall and soon enough had been cut down to a man. The remaining handful of corsairs let out a hoarse cheer and chanted Kayla and Gareth's names, the latter of whom called with a smile, "all right then you rats, form up and head for the keep. There's looting to be done," once a second round of cheers had subsided Gareth spoke quietly to the pair of corsairs quietly and they led the way to the castle.

+7 thumbs

Khitai is unconscious but stable in the middle of the courtyard, Calis is not far away finishing up with legs, Kayla is by the guardhouse, there are currently 0 bretonnians in the courtyard, Gareth and the 6 remaining corsairs (including stumpy) are headed for the castle, the battle is over and anyone in a condition to do so may help loot (or head back to the boat *cough* Khitai *cough*). Any questions? Carry on.

Finally! The Baron was down and out! That was an exceedingly tough fight, far more than what Kayla had expected from these pathetic humans - there was usually an exception to the rule that everyone was a true representative of their race, Kayla herself was evidence of that. Kayla unstrapped the Bretonnian guards helmet and dropped it to the courtyard floor. The warrior then looked at Gareth, still unsure whether to be pleased with his help or not, but gave him a respectful nod in gratitude for his help anyway.

The dead Barons blood was pooling around his head like a crimson halo, Kayla crouched by his side. "Well fought, citizen," she whispered, so that none could hear. "You will be remembered." His vicious looking falchion lay by his side, the blue-haired warrior eyed it curiously. She would take it and use it herself, either for it's intended purpose or simply as decoration for her room and as a reminder.

Necessities over with the warrior now stood to find her raiding compatriots, Calis and Khitai, it did not take long to spot them since the corsairs were all moving towards the keep. Upon spotting Khitai's tumble of white hair, Kayla hurried to his side. You better not be dead, Khitai, I'll be most displeased if you are! His breathing was shallow and he had lost blood, Kayla crouched down by his side and placed her non-bloody hand caressingly on his chest. A warriors heart beats strong within you, you shall live, White Wolf, be it curse or no. Calis had eased his recovery, for which Kayla was appreciative, but Khitai would have lived regardless of the shades ministrations.

And now for the trickiest part of the aftermath - a conversation with Calis. Still crouched by the khainite, the warrior looked around to find Calis attending another of the wounded, since the shade had his back to her Kayla gave him an almost pleasant smile. Oh, you survived too, cowards often do. She stood and approached him from behind, but stopped just a few broad paces from the wily elf.

"You did well, Calis... Thank you for tending Khitai's wounds, he shall be fully recovered in a few days... She paused and looked away, not wishing to give in to her sentimental side. "I will carry Khitai back to the ship but there are also some few things I wish to collect from the keep." The stout warrior looked back to Calis, her expression now composed into neutrality. "Khitai will be safe for a few more minutes. If we work together we can quickly find some things of interest, then you can escort me and the patient back to the ship. What do you say to that?"

Chatting with Calis ;)
Is looking for a comb.
Will take the Barons two-handed falchion - is it damaged, or otherwise unusable as a weapon? Will take his helmet too, if he had one and it is better than the one Kayla discarded.
Finally, Kayla will scoop Khitai into her arms like a true heroine and carry his broken body back to the ship.

Battle was over.
Calis'Shad had provide all first aid that he could. Hopefully a surgeon would be available on the ship. Cooks were often adept at this art.

Kayla and Gareth had emerged as the victors, with a few remaining corsairs around them.
Kayla soon left them rejoicing together. She seemed to search for someone. Calis'Shad was attending a wounded corsair; looking the other way was fine.
Nevertheless, Kayla did come to him. And she did talk to him. And it was even thankful.
She was proposing to carry Kithai back to the ship. Fine.
She was also suggesting that it was time to loot. Much better!
Glad you made it alive. Let's go for a well earned booty!

Looting, in a professional, corsair way (i.e. doing the same as the corsairs).

So few words. Well, at least he is learning. Kayla raised an eyebrow at Calis, but said nothing. I have spent the last half-century yearning for death, no wonder he is glad to see me alive. The warrior looked back to Khitai and the other wounded. Surely they would be okay for just a few minutes?

"Will leave the looting to your expert hands. I only have need of a comb, and that is what I shall look for."

As Calis'Shad and Kayla were moving along with the exited corsairs towards the castle, he chatted with her.
A comb? If ever I came to find one, sure I'll oblige. Are there Bret ladies stationed in garrisons?
Viewed how elaborate was the cabinet in the tower two days ago, I expect some very refined artwork in this important castle.
I've been told about a Bretonnian saddlery workshop who makes luxury leather handbags, silk shawls, jewelry, lipsticks and perfumes. Interested?

Then Calis'Shad remembered that Kayla had expressed once some interest for the food he had made.
But you know what? Bretonnians are known for fine wine and excellent food. Their cheeses are famous. Yum! Good booty! Yo ho ho!

More important, myself, I'd be happy to find more ammo for both my crossbows.

Changing topics. She might be interested in talking about the battle. She would not be only interested in woman's stuff, she was also a warrior, after all.
That battle was epic! The more I killed, the more came back, with arrows and polearms. Shot my allowance twice to the last bolt.
What about you? The battle took much longer where you were. How did it go?

Chatting & looting.
