Path of Chaos RPG - OOC Discussion

Post by Kinslayer »

PATH OF CHAOS

Welcome to the Path of Chaos RPG. This is a small game which will run alongside the main Druchii.net RPG using a modified version of that system. In Path of Chaos, you control one of a group of Chaos Marauders, brought together by the will of the Chaos Gods. As you fight to fulfil the desires of your unholy patrons against all the odds, they will reward your every success and punish your every failure. Will you triumph and become a great Warrior of Chaos, or fall into darkness as you devolve into one of the retched Chaos Spawn? Only one thing is for sure, you will all tread the path of Chaos!

CREATING A CHARACTER

Please use the following formula to create your character. Fill in each field to complete your character and then wait for approval! The better your character, the better your chances!

Name: this one should be pretty self explanatory.
Sex: Male (most likely) or Female?
Age: being a lowly marauder you are likely to be between 20 and 40.
Height: how tall is your character?
Weight: stones, pounds, kilograms, it is all the same to us.
Appearance: What does your character look like? Describe their weapons and wargear too.

Chosen Deity: you must choose to worship Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch or Chaos Undivided.
Character Statistics: You must then pick your statistics, using the method described below this section.
Starting Equipment: You must then pick your starting equipment, which is covered further down.

Character Background: Possibly the most important section, this is where you lay out the details of your character. A good background will tell me about your character’s history, their present circumstances, their ambitions and motivations as well as their personality. Were they born in the Wastes or did they come here by chance? Did they embrace Chaos willingly, or did something drive them to this path?

CHARACTER STATISTICS:

You have 18 points to distribute amongst your 5 different statistics. No more, though you may use less [there is no real benefit to that, though]. No stat can have more than 5 points in it on your starting profile, and each stat has to have at least one point in it. Please note, once the game begins your stats can rise higher than 5. There are other restrictions below.

Weapon Skill (WS): How good your character is at fighting in melee, whether armed or unarmed.
Strength (S): How strong your character is. This will obviously be used for any strenuous physical activity.
Toughness (T): How durable your character is.
Dexterity (D): How fast and agile your character is.
Intelligence (I): How smart your character is. This doubles as your role-playing stat... Because your intelligence is what your Mod will use to see whether you are playing your character correctly.

If you worship Chaos Undivided your minimum Weapon Skill must be 4.
If you worship Khorne your minimum Strength must be 4.
If you worship Nurgle your minimum Toughness must be 4.
If you worship Slaanesh your minimum Dexterity must be 4.
If you worship Tzeentch your minimum Intelligence must be 4.

STARTING EQUIPMENT

You must then pick your starting equipment, and have 7 Equipment Points to spend on anything from this list.

MELEE WEAPONS
These are the weapons the characters use in hand-to-hand combat.

Melee items have 2 stats: Power and Speed. The weaker weapons are usually faster, whereas the stronger weapons are usually slower. These numbers can help you decide what kind of weapon you would want. Once again, these stats go from 1-5. Items with two numbers for a stat indicate that they are more powerful or faster in the first turn of any combat, but quickly drop to a lower statistic as they are hard to use or unwieldy.

Dagger (EP 1)
Power 1 – Speed 5

Short Sword (EP 1)
Power 2 – Speed 4

Long Sword (EP 2)
Power 3 – Speed 3

Bastard Sword (EP 3)
Power 4 – Speed 3

Great Sword (EP 3)
Power 5 – Speed 1 [Uses 2 hands]

Spear (EP 2)
Power 3 – Speed 4/2

Halberd (EP 3)
Power 5 – Speed 2 [Uses 2 hands]

Morning star (EP 2)
Power 4 – Speed 2

Glaive (EP 2)
Power 4 – Speed 3

Mace (EP2)
Power 4 – Speed 2

Flail (EP2)
Power 5/2 – Speed 2

Hand Axe (EP1)
Power 2 – Speed 4

Axe (EP 2)
Power 3 – Speed 3

Great Axe (EP 3)
Power 5 – Speed 1 [Uses 2 hands]

Staff (EP 1) – not for Khorne!
Power 2 – Speed 3 [uses two hands]

RANGED WEAPONS
These are the weapons the characters use to inflict pain from afar.

Ranged items have 3 stats: Power, Reload Speed, and Range. The weaker weapons are usually faster to reload, whereas the stronger weapons are usually slower. These numbers can help you decide what kind of weapon you would want. Once again, these stats go from 1-5. Some ranged weapons have two numbers next to the power stat, in which case the first is to show the power of the weapon when used at very close range, such as in a hand to hand combat situation, while the second number is the actual power used for most ranged shots.

Short Bow (EP 1)
Power 2 – Speed 3 – Range 3

Bow (EP 2)
Power 3 – Speed 3 – Range 4

Long Bow (EP 3)
Power 4/3 – Speed 3 – Range 5

Light Crossbow (EP 2)
Power 4/3 - Speed 4 – Range 2

Crossbow (EP 3)
Power 5/4 - Speed 3 – Range 4

Throwing Daggers, set of 4 (EP 1)
Power 1 – Speed 5 – Range 1

Throwing Axes, set of 4 (EP 1)
Power 3 – Speed 3 – Range 1

Poison Dart Blowpipe (EP 1)
Power 2 – Speed 2 – Range 1

ARMOUR
This is the equipment the characters use to protect themselves.

Armour is obviously used to protect the wearer from harm. There are various types of armour available to the Marauders. These stats go from 1-5 as well. Generally speaking, the selected armour will only be of use against attacks aimed at the relevant part of their body, so someone wearing a helmet but no other armour will only be protected against blows to the head. It is therefore recommended that you protect as much as possible. All characters are assumed to come with leather boots, undergarments and weapon sheaths etc as standard. Items such as shields do not protect against one specific area of the body, but can be used to block any attack.

Leather Breastplate (EP 1)
Body Protection 1

Leather Vambraces (EP 1)
Arm Protection 1

Leather Leggings (EP 1)
Leg Protection 1

Leather Head Cap (EP 1)
Head Protection 1

Full Leather Armour (EP 3)
Full Body Protection 1

Iron Breastplate (EP 2)
Body Protection 2

Iron Vambraces (EP 2)
Arm Protection 2

Iron Leg Guards (EP 2)
Leg Protection 2

Iron Helmet (EP 2)
Head Protection 2

Full Iron Armour (EP 6)
Full Body Protection 2

Buckler (EP 1)
Protection 1

Shield (EP 2)
Protection 2

That is the end of the Character Creation process. Once you begin playing you can acquire new and improved weapons and armour by taking them from the bodies of fallen opponents or otherwise finding them in game. The Chaos Gods have no interest in what weapons you fight however, just that you are using them to kill in their name. During the game making kills will often lead to a dice roll on one of the following charts, which may in turn lead you to new statistic upgrades, chaos mutations, skills and abilities... or eternal damnation!

CHAOS CHARTS

Whenever you make an especially gruesome, perfect or otherwise unlikely kill in the name of your patron deities, or perform some other great act of unholy valour under the watchful eye of the Dark Gods, they may respond by granting you a powerful gift. Your character gets to take an Intelligence test to see if they notice and accept the offer of the Gods in time, by rolling equal to or under their intelligence on a D6 (where 6 is always a fail). If they pass, they must then roll on the appropriate chart below. The gifts cannot be refused, and nor can the same gift be bestowed upon the same character more than once, so rerolls may need to be made. Even after passing the Intelligence test to accept the gift, some specific results require you to take a further test to prove you are worthy of such things.

GIFTS OF CHAOS UNDIVIDED
2 – Roll again on the Gifts of Khorne chart, rerolling if you roll a 1.
3 – Roll again on the Gifts of Nurgle chart, rerolling if you roll a 1.
4 – Two short daemonic horns sprout from your head like daggers.
5 – Your skin turns a dull grey as it hardens like stone.
6 – Your teeth crack and fall apart, leaving behind their sharpened tips.
7 – Your tongue splits and grows long like that of a snake, and is suddenly laced with a flesh eating venom.
8 – Your fingernails turn black and sharpen into long claws.
9 – A long tail grows forth from the bottom of your spine, tipped with a vicious barb.
10 – Your skin stretches and splits as a third arm grows forth below an existing one.
11 – Roll again on the Gifts of Slaanesh chart, rerolling if you roll a 1.
12 – Roll again on the Gifts of Tzeentch chart, rerolling if you roll a 1.

GIFTS OF KHORNE
1 – Roll instead on the Gifts of Chaos Undivided chart, rerolling further chart swap results.
2 – A massive but temporary surge of Strength flows through your muscles, bulging them outwards.
3 – Your skin turns a deep crimson as it becomes coated in a slick layer of blood, making you harder to hit.
4 – You scream in agony, rage and achievement as the icon of the Blood God is branded onto your forehead.
5 – A wild, uncontrollable Frenzy takes over your mind.
6 – A new power fills you, and your cry of rage turns your fists into spiked clubs of blood covered bone.

GIFTS OF NURGLE
1 – Roll instead on the Gifts of Chaos Undivided chart, rerolling further chart swap results.
2 – Your skin becomes covered every inch in temporary but rock hard lumps, granting more Toughness.
3 – The air around you becomes thick with an eternal swarm of black plague flies, clouding you from view.
4 – You weep pus filled tears of bountiful pain as the icon of the Plague Father is branded onto your forehead.
5 – You are gifted with prolonged Endurance.
6 – A foulness rises up in your throat at your command, and spills forth in a stream of acidic bile.

GIFTS OF SLAANESH
1 – Roll instead on the Gifts of Chaos Undivided chart, rerolling further chart swap results.
2 – Your limbs become infused with a temporary yet deadly burst of speed and agility, upping your Dexterity.
3 – Your body begins to let off an enchanting scent which slows down those around, making their attack falter.
4 – You cry out in blasphemous titillation as the sacred icon of the Dark Price is branded onto your forehead.
5 – You find yourself gifted with accelerated Evasion.
6 – Your stare becomes a curse of transfixing beauty which can stop even the bravest warrior in his tracks.

GIFTS OF TZEENTCH
1 – Roll instead on the Gifts of Chaos Undivided chart, rerolling further chart swap results.
2 – Your mind is suddenly bestowed with a temporary but significant amount of knowledge and Intelligence.
3 – Your eyes become golden orbs as your view of time changes, making those striking you seem much slower.
4 – You cry out both physically and magically as the icon of the Great Changer is branded onto your forehead.
5 – Your master gifts you with a keen Awareness.
6 – Your fingertips become a weapon, firing crackling bolts of eldritch lightning at your call.

RETRIEVING CHAOS ARMOUR

In your quest to become one of the fearsome Warriors of Chaos, your must also earn a full suit of near impentrable Chaos Armour. Every time you complete one of the mighty quests set for you by the dark powers, they will allow you to make a roll on the Chaos Armour chart, and you will be rewarded with a piece of the unholy wargear. Only when you have all six and the gifts and blessings of the Dark Gods will you have walked the path of the Marauder successfully, and become a great Warrior of Chaos.

CHAOS ARMOUR CHART
1 - Chaos Breastplate
2 - Chaos Helmet
3 - Chaos Vambraces
4 - Chaos Gauntlets
5 - Chaos Leg Guards
6 - Chaos Boots

Entering the cave looking for any sleeping pray he stumbled across a hot spring fed pool and a majestic being within it. Hulr crept along the pool edge closing on the unsuspecting being but as he stepped to within a spears thrust away the animal turned on him and attached. As Hulr ripped his spears free a eruption of blood enveloped him.

• Name: Severous
• Sex: Male
• Age: 28
• Height: 6 feet tall
• Weight: 180 ibs.
• Appearance: tall and slim build, toned muscle, fair skin. Blond hair that reaches his shoulders, usually held back in a short ponytail. his clothes show no colour, usually being black or white. Any armour he wears shines so brightly it could be considered white. His most distinguishing feature is a Chaos star tattooed around his right eye.

• Chosen Deity: Undivided
• Character Statistics:
WS: 4
S: 4
T: 3
D: 4
I: 3

• Starting Equipment:
Axe, Short Sword, Full Leather Armour, Iron Breastplate

• Character Background: Severous, though that name was not his original, had been a man of the Empire. Born and raised in a small farming hamlet near the north, it was inevitable that his little family community was overrun and ransacked by marauders from the north. Severous, and a few other survivors, were taken as slaves. Some were forced to do hard labour, but the younger and more athletic slaves were armed and pitted against each other.
Bothers, friends, fathers and sons fought each other. Those that didn't fight were killed slowly and painfully to teach the others a lesson. Severous loathed the gladiatorial challenges, but fought to appease his new master. Eventually, when he was the only one left, he was accepted into to marauding band as one of their own. He had a chaos star branded onto his face, and wasgiven proper equipment and some armour, Severous was one of them. But he had never forgotten what they had done to him, first chance he got, during a border skirmish with another marauding band, when his lord stood injured but triumphant over the enemy leader, Severous attacked his enslaver, killing him, and ran into the wastes.
He doesn't know how long he has been lost in the wastes, and he has changed enough to never be able to return to the Empire. War is all that is left for him.

(I am not 100% sure how everything like skills and what not are going to work, but I built Severous with the idea that he uses 2 weapons in hand. I also bought the full leather armour set and the Iron breastplate. can he wear the leather armour under his iron breastplate? If there is anything wrong with my character creation let me know and I will make modifications)

Everything looks good to me, but you can only wear one type of armour on any part of your body at once. Since it uses the same amount of equipment points to take the full leathers rather than the head cap, vambraces and leggings though you may as well stick to that. You'll be wearing the iron breastplate and will have the leather one bundled at your belt ready to put on if your iron one gets dented, destroyed etc.

The skills that can be aquired as gifts are in the charts (Frenzy, Awareness, Endurance and Evasion). Others can still be picked up by general roleplaying.

Name: Grollund
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 195lb
Appearance: Grollund is squat and fleshy, with pallid, clammy skin. His greasy black hair hangs limply around his face and reaches to about his shoulders. He almost always shows symptoms of one of the plague-father's minor blessed ailments. Grollund's gear is in deceptively poor condition: the metal rusty, the wood damp and rotted, the leather and cloth mouldy and moth-eaten.

Diety: The Grand Rot-Father, Nurgle
Stats: WS-4 S-3 T-4 D-3 I-4
starting equiptment:
Glaive-Guisarme (a type of glaive with the addition of a sharp hook on the reverse side, designed to make unseating horsemen easier), throwing axes (4), leather leggings, leather vambraces, iron breastplate

Background: Grollund used to be the local clergyman of a little village in Ostermark, who enjoyed his work and loved his beautiful wife. When she took terminally ill he did all he could to help her, he spent his life savings on a train of doctors, leech-workers, and medicine-men but none could find what was causing her ailment let alone a cure. In his desperation Grollund turned to prayer and offered what little he had left to Sigmar, Ulric, any god he thought might help save his wife. Eventually, in his wife's last moments, Grollund turned to the very darkest practices and bargained with the god of all plagues to let his wife go, Nurgle answered and sent Grollund visions of exactly what the disease affecting his wife was and how it was affecting her. Grollund went to his wife as fast as he could and watched as she slowly passed away, except now he didn't feel fear or sorrow or grief, but content and elation that millions of tiny virillic lives were being born from her corpse. Grollund ran out into the streets, crying with joy, and followed the instructions given to him by the great plague-father to raid the closest guard post and take enough gear and provisions for his pilgrimage. He headed north out of the empire, through Kislev and into the chaos wastes, along the way he fell ill and terrified the villages along his path for the next week with maniacle laughter and terrible wheezing in the depths of night. Eventually he reached the chaos north with nothing left to his name but the armour he stood in and a burning desire to glorify the rot-god.

Name: Bysra Frekisdottr
Sex: Female
Age: 21
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 165lbs
Appearance: A tall, heavy-set, uncouth woman with bloodshot eyes, Bysra is not the ideal picture of feminine beauty to the eyes of Old World menfolk. Scion of the Crimson Raven clan of Norsca, she bears many battle-scars and flaunts them with pride. Bysra is a natural blonde, but due to the clan's tradition of washing their hair with blood most would figure her a redhead.

Deity: Khorne, the Blood God
Stats: WS5 / S4 / T4 / D2 / I3

Starting equipment:

Axe
Full Leather armor
Shield

Background:

Like most Norscan daughters, Bysra had little interest in or business with the workings of the Gods. She'd been taught one absolute truth, however, being that might makes right, and none should try and change it. So when she overheard a fellow warrior whsipering prayers to Tzeentch for aid and influence, she knew it to be wrong and killed him on the spot. Unfortunately this didn't sit well with the clan council, of which he had been a respected member, and Bysra would surely be sentenced to death lest she fled. So she fled, shook off her angry pursuers in the badlands, and survived.

Now all left for her was revenge, revenge on the God she had placed her faith in and betrayed her so. Bysra vowed to lay waste on all of the Blood God's followers wherever she found them.

Name: Karl Zunra
Sex: Male
Age: 26
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 220 lbs
Appearance: Karl Zunra bears the marks of his clan, the Zun'Varg, the swirling black and reds of his people. His scalp is shaven clean, and his beard is braided with bone and leather. He is stocky more then lean, and broad more then thin. His left eye is a deep brown, his right a violet. His face is unscarred, though his chest arms and legs are, both ritualistic and from battle.

Chosen Deity: Undivided

Character Statistics:
WS-4 S-4 T-3 D-3 I-4

Starting Equipment:
Great Sword
Throwing Axe (x4)
Full Leather Armor

Character Background: Karl was different to the others of his tribe. Yes he fought like them, and raided with them, yes he followed the words of the shaman, but he as different. His eyes marked him out as a 'something' from birth, and that sort of difference made him slightly of note. What made him different happened one day when he thought why? Why was he in this little village, of hut and shiz? Why was he listening to the mad ravings of a fool who thought he spoke to the gods? With a snarl he threw one of his axes at the bone wearing old fool. He left the village then and there. He would find his answers, and he would rise above the pile of nothing in the cold north.

So he traveled, he ventured south, and quickly left after seeing those winged horsemen of Kislev. Then he turned north, and wandered, avoiding stronger warriors, preying on the weak, and facing a challenge every so often. He has met shamans and warlocks, served with raiders and fanatics, and has not been fully satisfied by any of it. It didn't seem right for him, this was not where he was meant to be. He once saw a demon, a wretched things of leathery flesh and claws. It intrigued him more then terrified, for how could such a thing be? Still he was please to see it slain.

In his travels in the north, his skill with his great sword improved. The old bronze thing he took with him from the village was left behind many moons ago. The fine blade he carried now had been scavenged from a battlefield. Some followers of the Blood and the Rot had slaughtered each other. He, with a few others and picked the bodies clean. The sword had come from one of the Blood fanatics. Whilst the Rot it seemed to Karl could take a better hit, the stench kept him away from their gear.

His armor is a patch work of leather, taken from many battles against all opponents, from the Beats that Walk, to the soft men of the south. He knows his is no great thing of note yet, but he has survived for a long time by himself, more then most wanders of the north can say. He will not die, he will find out why he ponders, why the gods do as thy do, and why they rule the demons. He offers death to many of them, for they have many faces, though all they all seem to want the same thing to Karl. They want power, as does Karl.

A very busy life it seems. Sorry guys, every time I find some time to post I only have enough to do Group 22, and even that is suffering because of how busy I have become. I'm not sure how long until I can next post, but I just got in after 13 hours at work so it won't be now, going to bed.

I'm going to close this game for now because I simply don't know when I will have the time back... and I don't like to keep you all waiting and guessing like this. It could well be a little while before I have as much RPG time again. If it happens any sooner I will let you all know via PM and will give this game another shot.

If anyone else wants to take over in my stead as GM I would have no objections to that.
