The question of the HE and Dwarven conflict and why Malekith started it is pretty well explained in the new DE AB. He basically WANTED them to fight so neither could challenge him or unite against him, and would be weakened to his gain. Malekith started the War of the Beard pretty purposefully.

Regarding the Sword of Khaine, the new book fluff is pretty explicit in stating that Malekith knows that using the sword is a *Bad Idea*. Sure, he'll win in the short term. But in the long term he'll end up just like his father. What Malekith is concerned about (and the reason that he keeps trying to take control of the island) is that a Phoenix King will try and draw the sword. If a High Elf were to draw the sword, then he could sweep the Druchii aside and Malekith would be hard pressed to stop him.

remember the creed "the weak die, the strong survive"? I'm convinced that Malekith's plan is to breed a race of T4 Elves by weeding out the weaklings. So far the first 5000 years or so haven't brought much in the way of improvements but at least we got to watch a Dwarf vs Traitor Elves war

He's got S4 rank and file elves now. That's got to count for something.

:P
