Reliable source for End Times Archaon plot/spoilers?

Post by Boltshot525 »

Does anyone know where I can find a detailed summary of the final End Times book. I would really like to know what happens in detail without buying the book :)

If you are willing to trawl through (will probably take you as long as actually reading the book), everything is in this thread on Warseer. Oh and filter out all the whining and moaning.

Thanks to a poster on Warseer (Giant Stegadon) here is a great summary of the entire End Times
[+] SPOILER
Okay so my cliff notes version:

NAGASH: Archaon is in the north, Chaos people are pumped they'll win. Mazdamundi declares the Great Plan of the Old Ones has failed & Lizardmen must exodus (no more info). Orcs may be on a big Waaagh. Brettonia is in civil war with the Vampire part of Brettonia, the Bret king (Louen) is probably dead, and it turns out The Green Knight is revealed to be Gilles le Breton. Tilea & Estalia are completely overrun by Skaven. Kislev is leveled by Chaos.

Because of Chaos rising earlier than expected, Nagash needs to be brought back now. Manfred allies with Arkan & they get crap for Nagash. Nagash is resurrected with 8 mortals of divine blood. Teclis doesn't tell anyone the Elven princess isn't the daughter of the Phoenix King Finubar (who might be dead) but really she's Tyrion's secret kid with the High Elf Queen so that screws up Nagash's thing (Curse of Aenarion). Balthasar Gelt makes an awesome magic wall to fend off the initial Chaos hordes, but in a series of wacky misunderstandings ends up a Necromancer & flies away with the Vlad (he's back too- United Undead will likely be anyone's allies in 9th). The Beast magic guy takes over as head of magic. Karl Franz is seriously wounded in a big battle at the magic wall. Nagash goes down to crush the resistant Tomb Kings. Probably consumes the Dwarven ancestor god Valaya, definitely consumes the Khermian Death god. Nagash is now the container for Death magic. At the end, Chaos is probably going to get Settra on their team (so Undead will be anyone's allies in 9th).

GLOTTKIN: Nurgle's army rolls out into the Empire first. Marienburg is destroyed-turns out there was a Vampire there all along too but he sucks at fighting. The Glottkin (3 brothers, one is the monster) lead a 3 prong army to tear up the Empire. Talabheim is sacked. Empire & Brettonia fight the Chaos Legion at Aldorf (yeah the capital) & its gets trashed. The Bret king we thought was dead, isn't & bleeds light, but dies for real this time. Festus dies. Kurt Helborg gets stabbed in the eye & dies. Karl Franz comes back but dies. THEN a comet thing comes down & he's back & super awesome & (almost) kills Glottkin but they cast a spell & escape. Aldorf (& most of the Empire) was afflicted by weird Nurgle thorns growing everywhere is suddenly cleansed and everything is okay. Except tons of people are dead & everything is wrecked. Vampires continue to fight with humans (please buy some skeletons!).

KHAINE: This focuses only on the Elves. Valkia leads a Khorne army into Naggaroth (she dies) & they destroy 3 of the big tower cities. Malekith decides to just abandon the whole thing & invade Ulthuan (why not?)- he's also pissy with his mom. Ulthuan defends against a big demon invasion then the Druchii show up. Teclis sides with Malekith (he has a big plan-also Finubar is for real dead) & a gigantic civil war erupts (Imrik goes with Malekith). Tyrion leads the other half & pulls the Sword of Khaine (Widowmaker)- Tyrion is also super sad about his kid dying. The Wood Elves show up. Tyrion becomes as mean as Malekith but he's still supposed to be the bad guy since he's under Khaine influence (some Dark Elves are now with him too).

For some reason, Malekith was always supposed to be the Phoenix King & walks through the flames so he's the real king now (deal with it). All the Elves end up at the Magic Vortex & fight. Oh that Vortex? The thing that's held Chaos at bay this whole time? Teclis' plan is to undo it & infuse mortals with the winds of magic to fight Chaos-this is somehow a legitimate plan. The Shadow King guy kills Tyrion with an arrow & also shoots Malekith for kicks but he lives. Morathi, who was influencing Tyrion, gets taken by Slaanesh. Ulthuan sinks since the Vortex is gone- with Teclis sitting next to Tyrion/Khaine going with it (Teclis' staff now has/had Light Magic btw). Everyone uses the World Roots to escape to Athel Loren- since that's now the only Elf place left GW hasn't wiped off the map. King Malekith marries the Wood Elf queen girl (he's the new Shadow container, she's the Life one). All 100 Elves that survived this now get to live in the forest. The Beast Men make an appearance for them to murder. Its implied Karl Franz got Heavens Magic when he was resurrected in Glottkin & turns out Lileath used all her power to cure the Empire so she's not a god anymore (I don't understand how gods work here now). A bunch of other crap happens with Elven gods dying & new ones being appointed (Araloth...)- a poorly thought out cyclical metaphor. This is the worst book.

THANQOUL
The Greyseers want to pull Morrslieb to Earth, but while they are trying, they are kicked off of the Council of 13. The Lizardmen have dealt with the Demon invasion everyone else has. And now the might of Clan Pestilens invades Lustria-generally causing plague & destruction. The Skaven are also assaulting Karak Eight Peaks. Things for the Dwarves, as always, is not looking good. Belegar does his best to fight off the Skaven assault. At one point he hires Golgfag Maneater to help, but Golgfag betrays him for Skarsnik. King Thorgrim sends Belegar a letter saying all the Karaks are under Skaven seige- & that Karak Azul has already fallen. Thorek Ironbrow (the Anvil of Doom guy) is dead. The Dwarves also realize runes for Valaya aren’t working anymore (see Nagash). Queek kills Belegar & trades his head to Skarsnik for all of Karak Eight Peaks.

Thanqoul leads the assault on Nuln. There’s a mention of Tamurkhan actually happening. Remember the scene in Dark Knight Rises where Bane blasts explosives under Gotham & the Batmobile falls from the ceiling? Thanqoul takes a page from that & sinks the quarter section of Nuln with all the foundries. Nuln is then sacked. It mentions Emmanuelle von Liebwitz escapes east.

Pestilens renews their attack in Lustria. Mazdamundi realizes what the Skaven are planning on & warps to Itza. At this point the Skaven shoot a lazer at Morrsleib & break it apart. Small moon sized chunks are now falling to Earth. Mazdamundi & some of the Slann use all their power to destroy all the meteorites they can but it kills them. The rest of the Slann activate the temples, which turns out are mostly buried underground and blast off of the planet. Lord Kroak contains the remaining meteorites hitting & saves the world- but Lustria sinks (but parts of it are saved-the bubbles).

Archaon attacks Middenheim (the Skaven are now allying with Chaos). Valten & Martak put up a good college try but its the whole Chaos force. Teclis is under the city and puts the flame of Ulric into his staff (i think). Martak gets Ulric power & fights Kairos Fateweaver with hybrid Beast-Ice magic & forces him to fly away. Valten fights Archaon but a Verminlord decapitates Valten while its happening. Archaon kills Martak.

Ungrim gets Fire magic. Thorgrim marches out, breaks Queeks neck, but is later assassinated. Its implied-planned Thanqoul will get a seat on the Council for it.

ARCHAON
A Chaos army is attacking the remnants of Dwarves, Empire & Brets in Averheim. Gelt shows back up and the Wind of Metal makes him an Incarnate. Archaon & Karl Franz duel. Karl Franz loses Heavens & Archaon smashes the Light Ghal Maraz. Gelt is forced to warp the humans to safety & Ungrim stays behind & dies.

Isabella Von Carstein (who is kinda possessed by a Nurgle Demon) & The Nameless (who is possessing Luthor Huss *tear*) lead a Nurgle army to fight Mannfred in Sylvannia. Mannfred’s hubris causes him to lose the battle & the surviving Vampires escape to an old inn. Vlad comes, looking for Isabella & there’s another fight. Mannfred escapes. Vlad rope-a-dope’s The Nameless & allows Luthor Huss’ will to overcome him & kill him (yay!). Vlad & Luthor Huss fight together but Isabella kills Luthor Huss (boo!). In a touching moment, Vlad allows Isabella to kill him. Isabella makes her way with a huge Nurgle army at the Black Pyramid. It forces Nagash to wake up. At the same time, the Skaven have been tunneling underneath the Pyramid & to set off bombs destroying the Pyramid. In anger, Nagash does a nuke spell & kills all the demons, but in doing so he exerts all the power he’s been gaining for months. Nagash is now only as powerful as an Incarnate. (we find out years ago Teclis contacted Nagash about a possible alliance) Nagash heads to Athel Loren.

The Elf portion has a lot of battles happening constantly, so just keep that in mind. The Elves fight a Demon battle & Caradryan becomes the Fire Incarnate. Be’lakor leads a sneak attack (he still doesn’t like Archaon) on the Oak of Ages to gain the Gods favor. Teclis has brought Tyrions body to it. As Be’lakor touches the Oak, with the intent on corrupting it, Tyrion bursts out (the staff has remaining Ulric power & Light magic & the magic from Ariel’s bones all help). Tyrion is Incarnate of Light now & pretty awesome.
After this battle, all the Incarnates parlay. Over the next days, Teclis learns Lileath doesn’t think they can win Randra Dandra, but she’s been tricking Teclis the whole time so she could make the “Haven”- a place where the new Elves could be hidden from Chaos. Brettonian Jerrod confronts Lileath about using the Brets the entire time, she mentions the Haven, which Be’lakor hears about. They capture Be’lakor & he tells everyone the real plan. There’s a mysterious artifact under Middenheim which will cause another Chaos pole to form if activated (sort of like how things in movies always build a big red “self-destruct” button for some reason). The two Chaos poles on each end of the world kinda balance each other out, but this one won't have a balance & will destroy the world. Lileath realizes she can’t detect the Haven anymore & thinks Chaos has already destroyed it.
Its decided everyone has to warp to Middenheim, but Teclis knows it'll take too much magic. During another battle, Lileath has Teclis stab her so her once-divine blood will provide enough juice for the warp. Teclis does it, but loses control of the spell at the end and everyone is warped to different parts of the city (with different amounts of soldiers).

With the element of surprise, the Incarnates fight their way through Middenheim & all converge on the Fauschlag crater, where the Artifact (& Archaon) is underneath. Karl Franz finds Ghal Maraz in Archaon's empty throne room & it turns out he's Sigmar. Tzeentch bound Sigmar into the Wind of Heavens 2,000 years ago & he's been trapped in the Elven Vortex ever since. Malekith also gets Grimgor Ironhide (Beast Incarnate) to ally with them- Teclis' spell ended up grabbing all the Incarnates. Everyone heads down into the cavern where Archaon & the Artifact are (which is getting activated by sorcerers). The final battle happens. Archaon & Emperor Sigmar fight. Sigmar lighting punches Archaons sword, breaks it & Archaon falls into the chasm (Grimgor also fought Archaon, head butted him, broke the Eye of Sheerian but got beheaded). Teclis was chained up in the cavern (the warp going wrong). The remaining Incarnates (Caradryan is dead) try to stabilize the Artifact, which is turning into a rift. Teclis is trying to handle both Fire & Beasts. Mannfred sneaks in (long story) & kills Gelt, this destablizes everything (Teclis dies). The rift grows. Archaon climbs up & him & Sigmar fall back in the chasm. The rest of the Incarnates watch the world end.

Now, the very end- it says the Chaos Gods turn away as the world, space, & time unravel. A figure is falling through the void & grabs a "glimmering orb, a fiery world-heart grown cold as the abyss. ... The figure clung tight, marshalling his faded strength. He reached forth his hand, & a miracle took shape. And what of tomorrow? What of tales yet to be told, & the cycle of the stars? These were truly the End Times. But they were also the beginning."
I actually liked this book best.

EDIT: I don't know if its really clear in my post, but all of this stuff is generally happening all at the same time over the course of maybe 2 years. The Nagash book devotes a large section in the beginning to bring all the armies up to speed, then goes with his story. The following books focus on certain geographic areas as this is happening. If you noticed how GW erased Storm of Chaos from the timeline, this is basically the second version of that.

Additionally, there's more named characters that die in these books, but (i) I didn't want to go back & find them to find the name, or (ii) they aren't really important to the summary. Apart from Volkmar the Grim (who dies in the Nagash ritual), I can't think of a named character that has died that isn't a Finecast model either. So it seems to be a bit of a house cleaning.
