i like the cold ones. i would have put 2 of them on individual bases though, to easily be able to remove casualties.

I didn't think of that, thanks. I've started another unit of 12 so I'll make sure I do 4 individual bases, 2 for each unit.

A second unit of black guard is almost complete, I'm just working on a converted champion.

Your cold ones look BEAST!
And all your other stuff looks very good aswell, i really like your executioner unit with the extra ''flag'' pole, it looks pretty cool and is a nice way to break the cliché way to line up a unit. Good job. I wait for more!!

Thanks for the feedback it helps me to keep working on them.

Here's another 2 units of crossbows.

I think I must have some kind of mental block when it comes to the cold ones knights. I've been puting them off for ages now and I'm not sure what to do with them anymore!
So next up will be another unit of spears or black guard. we shall see....

I'm pleased to say that I've made a bit of progress since my last update.

A second unit of Black Guard are almost complete, just the champion to go..

Here are some of my old Cold Ones, still need to re-base..

Still have plenty to keep me occupied!

While I had the camera set up I took some of the army so far..

Looks really good overall. I do feel that a bit of a second color besides purple would really add something though. A tiny little bit of Blood Red could go a long way.

Looks incredible, great work!!! One question: if you have a bit of spare time, could you explain how you paint the armour?

Keep up the great work!!

Love the snow bases. My army is also on snow bases and I believe it is a great contrast to dark colors like purple and dark red(my army). Great army here.

I have two different methods, one for the black guard and one for the spearmen.
Firstly the black guard.
To be completely honest the black guard armour is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it comes out well other times it makes me swear!
The basecoat is chainmail. Then comes the hit and miss part - I make a wash with chaos black as it has more pigment than the badab black and because it is a lot darker I try to keep away from the edges of the armour leaving a thin line of chainmail. Two or three coats later you should be seeing a good contrast between the chainmail and pure black.

The same method is used for the corsairs' & speamen's helmets. For the spearmen's body armour it's fairly simple chainmail basecoat, a couple of washes with badab black, then drybrush with chainmail, then highlight with mithril silver.

Cheers.

The metal fittings in the RBTs look real great. How do you get the shiny copper/brass effect?

Also, what are you using to make the yellow straw like grass on the bases? It looks real nice.
You have reached the Department of Circular Reasoning.

Please hold.

Sorry about the delay I've had a mad start to the year. The brass is burnished gold washed with chestnut ink then a quick highlight with gold again. Simple to do and a gives nice effect.

The long grass is model railway scenery, Ill try and find out the specifics for you.

I managed to find the manufacturer for the grass. It's a company in the UK named Green Scene.

http://www.green-scene.co.uk/Scatters.html

The product in question is: Reeds GS/315 the old retail price was £1.85 for a small baggy with enough 3" reeds (obviously cutting to a small size) to base a decent sized army (2 baggies max.)

It looks as if they are building a new website as most of the pages are under construction however, you can contact them via email: john.s.lloyd@lineone.net

Cheers
