I've finally made some progress on the banner...

Image

The thing is now, do I add a cloth banner?

I think it'll look far too plain without one. If I go ahead with it I'll need a crossbar and possibly a longer pole.

As for the design I was thinking about the old Khaine imagery or just stick to a plain rune similar to the shields.

Cheers.

I would leave it as it is now. Just add a second skull to the left side of the banner with longer chain.
I mean something like this:

Nice painting job by the way.

Thanks I really like that idea particularly as it looks good and doesn't involve much more work lol.

Fantastic regiment! I love all of those old minis even if the 'ladies' are so damn fugly. Only one comment on the standard, try bending those chains to hang stright down or even curve them toward the models sword arm to try and emulate movement and the effect of gravity. Small point but it may be worth doing to avoid the rigid feel the chains have at the moment. Looks fantastic though!

Wow, with Hatred...!

You have really outdone yourself this time. Your unit reminds me of the "Storm Warriors" cover; a great tribute to the dark elves of that time :D

Thanks a lot.

@ Jarvax - It's just drybrushing nothing special about it. Dark grey, mid grey then white. If you want the particular colours let me know as I've got them on a crib card.

@ Tyrannus - I remember that cover, makes me wish I'd done a black heart banner now though. Perhaps the next unit eh.

They look menacing as a unit - a good, consistent paintjob and subtle colours work really well together!

Scenic base suits them well, too. Drybrushing <3

Ehm, I don't know what a crib card is but thanks for the offer and the advice. I'll experiment a little and see what tones I prefer.

Every time I start a new unit I'll keep a card and write down the paints that I use for base coats, layers and washes.

Usually it takes me a while to do a unit and in the past I forgot what colours I used so I started the crib cards.

Oh, that crib card. :P
It would be nice if you told us (me) what colours you used then. :)

I really love this unit, it takes me back to the good old days when I first started this insane hobby.

Have you thought about using the original old school banners - I think they would finsh the unit of perfectly.

Thanks a lot. I'd like to use the banner from the 'Storm Warriors' above with another unit of Marauder MM70 warriors I'm planning. I'll see how I get on with that and then yes I probably would go for one of the old banners. For now I'll just leave it as is.

@ Jarvax - The rocks recipe:

Basecoat - Adeptus Battlegrey, any dark grey will do.

1st Highlight - Drybrush 50/50 Adeptus Battlegrey / Astronomican grey

2nd highlight - Drybrush Astronomican Grey, any light grey will do.

Last highlight if required - Drybrush the edges with White

Good luck if you try it out.

Carrying on from the Regiment, I've tried my hand at some Marauder Scouts and an Assassin.

I decided to keep a similar colour scheme for this lot to tie everything in.

I'll be taking a wee break again to concentrate on the new cauldron of blood but will be back with more assassins and the missing scout.

Cheers.

Very well done sir. Delighted to see these models again.
I can see them work as "brothers" of battle in a mix with modern models. Although, I remember these of being a bit smaller, and a little thicker than new models. Big boned and short so to speak. Not very elf-like if compared to modern models.

Nicely done.

Thanks a lot Kheel. I know the old Marauder sculpts aren't to many's taste, but I still love them.

Great work as always! Very nice paint job.

Seeing this, Im getting real inspired to have a go at my own shades. Any ideas how to get them greatweapons without it looking awkward?

Very impressive, it's always nice to see what the older models look like all doll'd up for the generations that have missed them.

Thanks guys, I've made some progress on the assassins and have base coated some Dark Riders using the old marauder cavalry.

@Gastronauticon - Hmm not sure about the great weapons, they'd be fairly easy to convert though.

What weapons did you have in mind?

Happy to say that I've finished the Scouts and the 4 remaining Assassins. I really enjoyed painting these even though they sat on my table staring at me for ages!
