Aaah, the good old days. Those witch elves were what drew me to dark elves in the first place. And those executioners: that's what executioners are supposed to look like: big ass axes and hoods. (Don't get me wrong, the new executioners are excellent sculpts, but they just look like evil versions of the hated HE swordmasters).

Thank you for reminding us of those innocent (:twisted:) days. And the painting is very good as well. I love the colour scheme.

However, there are two things I kindly would like to ask of you. This is a plog and I would prefer to have a certain measure of control over the images here. Therefoer, please pm me if you want to post images here. Secondly, please keep pictures within the sanctioned 800x600 format. It is very easy to decrease picture size even in ms paint these days. That said, I really appreciate the interest you have taken so if you have any more links to good looking vintage models, feel free to post them here. I may even try to establish a small registry of vintage links. If I can muster the time that is...

vladdrak: Yes, looking back with some self perspective, it may very well have been the cover of the army book that did it. It is not something to be proud of, just the way it was. The other books had dragons and armor clad warriors whilst the DE book had... witch elves. Well, a witch elf and a sorceress if I remember correctly but the still.


Aaanyway, some iron claw harpies arrived in the mail today. Now I have a full five! Pics soon. Meanwhile, I have added two chariots to the first thread. The paint job is so so and will be remade eventually but it is not prioritized atm.

The harpies are done but they did not get quite the look I was after.

In the meantime, feel free to glare jealously at the chariots posted earlier. Paintjob is so-so but the sculpts are some of the best produced ever (well, during the 80s anyways...).

Love old stuff! Like previously said it's the first time I see those special edition Executioners painted. And you did a really good job! I'd love to see more.

As for the 'green dragon' it depends on whether you want to stay true to it's name or not. If you did it would have to be a very dark green.

Failing that, seeing as you have a strong red theme running throughout the army, I'd go a deep red with maybe a pale brown or even beige underbelly.

The dragon is comming along. I did consider a green variant, but I am not too experienced in painting the green end of the spectrum.

Thus, it gets roughly the same scheme as my cold ones. That is red underbelly, bone/white scales, and light brown wings. It will not stand out as much as it could have, but I am on a tight schedule and given its small size, it might look wierd with a highly diffrent coloring.

I guess this isn't to everyone's taste due to the lack of comments but it keeps us older ones interested. I really like it, the colour scheme fits in perfectly. I can't see any problems with the scales though and it's nice to see the old general making an appearance.

The piece as a whole fits into your retro army very well.

Everything is looking great, I imagine it looks pretty amazing all assembled on the table. Do/will you have a COB for your army? I'm using the Citadel/Marauder one with the newest witches for my army. I just need to get around to repainting it. Someday.

Thanks for the kind comments. While the dragon in itself dont do wery well gamewise (vs cannons and skavenslaves alike...), it do look nice with the rest of the army. I may keep it as is, despite the scales.

I played a tournament this past weekend and scored third on army appearance (out of ~50) which was very pleasing. The only thing it lacks is a big shiny centerpiece. The dragon is shiny but not big in the way a plague furnace is Big.

XfallenX: Yes, I use the 5th edition wheeled CoB for the army. It is also rather small but it looks qutie ok with the rest of the army. If I ever find some evil looking altar model (any army) from an earlier edition, I will probably try to retrograde it as well.

As for now I have managed to procure one addittional 5th ed CoB chassis minus the actual cauldron. Hopefully, there will be a two variety altar kit with the next army book. If so, I will be able to use that chassis as base for a retro-feel conversion of it.

Also, I am assembling a chimera in waiting for the next edition. Picures soon.

It has been a year since last post. Kids (in plural now!) and all that...

Anyway: Based on the previews in the recent white dwarf, I went ahead on eaby and bought an oop Medusa. It has yet to arrive but once it does, it will be the next project going.



The wagon for it is a converted CoB chassis from 5th edition and the mirror and mirrorstand I converted from a RBT from the same line.

I second "With hatred..."! Very interesting take on the new units (I try to figure out what to do myself...), it's very nice you found use for those old mounted dark elf wizards.

Bloodwrack Shrine is a good conversion and the medusa model you have is very nice.

That shrine is awesome....but what about the Mirror?

Have done more playing than painting this last year as well as an excursion into internet blood bowl (thanks for the game Pahvivalmiste!) which took a bit of time. More stuff is on the way but the manti-lord photo I had photoed up did not look good at all viewed on a full screen. Brb on that one.

The mirror on the shrine is made from the RBT magazines. It look a bit clanky but hopefully it will pook better whan painted. Very close to perhaps almost starting with that soon... =D
