I quite like the 2H swords on the cold ones, used a similar conversion for a dragon rider.
May not be realistic but hey this is warhammer.

Those wood elf horses and dark steeds look awesome ! When assembled gave me the feeling of the horde of the mongols invading haha. There were 9 wood elf horses instead of 8 in one box btw :D

For 100 euro's I've got:

2 cowboy masters
10 warlocks
15 dark riders

Image

around 850 points of fast cavarly, looking forward to the conversions of the dark riders. But what to do with the warlocks, I think their bodies etc. look great, faces also. Not sure about the hair. I think I will convert/paint them as African shamans on horse with ritual paintings. Besides that I'm really looking forward to make the cowboy masters true cowboys, I'll update you soon !

Nice herd of horses. :)
The hair on the warlocks is a little off putting to me too. The shaman idea might well work nicely.

I really like the shaman idea, very original and might look great. I look forward to seeing some pictures. :)
Also, wow, so many horses! Reminds me of my own I still need to paint. :D
My painting blog

Even without Games Workshop, we will endure. Armies of the Unsupported Age, the models are out there.

First unit of dark riders and warlocks finished (modelling)

I wanted my warlocks different than the originial ones and came up with the idea to give them a feeling of African warriors / shamans as I liked their bodies and faces. So they went to the haircutter and African armoury. Real difference will be made with paint ofcourse, any experience with African skin ? I like how they turned out, crazy barbarian shaman-like look.

My favourite until now

I also finished a first unit of dark riders

I liked the cowboy idea, but in the end the cowboy look was a little too much and did not look elfish anymore, so here a hit dark steed master, I love those heads from the warrior sprue, so much emotion.

Image

So I also tried a head swap with new and old warriors, I prefer old heads. What do you think ?

Some looking conversions there. Good work.
On the warrior question, your model is nice, head fits well. I can happily live with the new ones so seems a lot if work to me, but if you have the time and patience, then you will have a nice looking unit.

First horse painted + based. Base still needs further grass etc.

Do you guys prefer the white eye with or without the pupil?

Think the pupil makes it better. Have you played around with the eye colour, or are you set on white?

Which other colours do you suggest, I shall try them on the next horse !
Here is the completed dark rider (champion) but riders needs some perfection. Please share your thoughts so I can improve my painting!

Inspiration for the model is from Assassin's Creed and white will be the main colour for my shades and dark riders. In this way I represent them as camouflaged in the harsh snowlands of Naggaroth instead of using snow on the bases (base now also finished).

Well I was going to suggest, yellows and oranges, maybe red. But looking at the finished model, that might not work too well.
It is a nice colour scheme you have achieved and the base is lovely.
It is an individual style of painting you have, looks quite dry and dusty, but in a good way. Rather than blended shades and washes. Assuming this is from drybrushing repeatedly to get the texture.

I think your models are interesting but why are some of the shields all cut up?

That sorceress is very nice indeed :)
Best thing for me is the pole dancer inside the cauldron, great idea!

Thanks. The fact that I cut all the shields of my Warlocks is to give them a more savage, wooden look.

My fluff about them that my force plundered and killed around the coastline of Arabia (or what it Africa shape called in Warhammer map?) but the savage bravery of these mounted African shamans and skill in magic gave them so much respect that 'Lord Drakon' (hero of the revolution) offered them a place in his army. Since then they fight under his banner to wreak havoc.

I did not like the original fluff story and models but they had something savage, something I recognized in study of old African tribes. Therefore change to own fluff and changes in simple weapons (axe, wooden stick etc.) but African warriors (like zulu, maasai etc.) also have big wooden shields. I have to wait for the paint if it works out, but that is why I cut them with a knife !

Had more time to look at your pics more closely. Some great conversions and ideas you got there! I would go with pupils on the horses eyes, I would only do them without if I`d go for a more demonic look.

Jarvax wrote:This is a very good idea even though I like the new CoB as is. I saw the poledancer mini some years ago and I thought I'll get that mini for a converted CoB. I would have her holding a spear but your idea is even better! I might have to steal it from you. My only criticism is that having her inside the cauldron should mean that she is at least to the waist in blood. She's not and it would be a pity to have that beautiful mini cut in half, so I'd put her outside the cauldron.

Clearly you lack experience with pole dancers. She is simply sliding down the pole into the blood after leaping acrobatically on to the pole and performing a few maneuvers demonstrating her strength and flexibility.

Who makes (made) that figure incidentally?
That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?
