How to : Dark Elves Lords and Heroes

Post by manadar »

I have recently started a Dark Elves amy and it frystrated me not be able to buy some models. GW lacks many such as Pegasus Lord or mounted sorceress for instance. That's why I came to look here in the Painting and Modelling section. Unfortunatly evoryone posts his ideas and conversions but I find it extremely painful to search through that many topics.
I created this topic thinking why not post "recipes" for every models you can't buy at GW and maybe add a picture of the models one made. Likewise when you play 4/5 mounted Masters I find it boring to use 4 times the one GW sells... I'm sure many have come with interesting ideas to get one which could be add here too.

There is a need for :
- Pegasus Master/Lord
- Pegasus Sorceress
- Mounted Sorceress
- Mounted Master
- Malus Darkblade
- Kouran DarkHand
- Tullaris Dreadbringer

What do you think about it ?

Nice initiative, as there is indeed a lack of characters but I saw a lot very nice converted models to replace the need! Here are some of my ideas for them. Heroes on Foot are inspired by the 6th edition artwork of nobles.

How I do it;

Pegasus combat characters = bret pegasus knights box with cold one knight models on top of. Optionally, glue magnets into the pegasus and the knights. For extra badass (aka the lord), use the lord from the black dragon kit (again magnetised to easily exchange mounts for him). Through the "spikes" on the knights helmet, and the variety of weaponry and shields, you can make a bunch of easily distinguishable guys. Then just paint the pegasi a different colour if you're into that sort of stuff.

Pegasus sorcerers: again same as above, but using the sorceress from the black dragon kit.

Mounted chars... Well. Cold one chars I just use the knights. Steed masters either putting cold one knights on dark rider horses (abit ugly due to their legs clasing, but it works out), or go with dark steeds from the scourgerunner kit + cold one knights. Sorceress still from the black dragon kit.

The remaining 3 I have not made a model for, since my gaming community rarely plays with specials.
Name: Ladry (female)
Class: Mage (Pyromancer)
Equipment: Staff, longsword, dagger, 20 gold, insignia ring.
Skills: Power of Aqshy (2), defensive figthing
WS4, S2, T3, D4, I6.

That's my solution (you can find more pics in my newlyborn topic):

- Pegasus Master/Lord
ImageImage
They have magnets so they can also be fielded on foot.

- Pegasus Sorceress
Image

- Mounted Sorceress
The sorceress from above pic is magnetized, so she can ride a horse.
Also I have:
1 old metal sorceress on a plastic dark steed.

- Mounted Master
Same models as pegasus riders, but on a magnetized Cold One/Dark Steed. Pics soon.
Also I have:
1 converted corsair lord on an old plastic cold one and
1 converted BsB from the metal sorceress on cold one

- Malus Darkblade
Old metal model :P

- Kouran DarkHand
No ideas yet

- Tullaris Dreadbringer
No ideas yet

Sorceress on a Pegasus. The Pegasus started life as a high elf horse, lost some markings, gained some wire and green stuff wings (the holes are intentional)
and the sorceress was an old metal model trimmed to fit

Kouran - top half is a Cold One Knight, bottom half is greenstuff. Mega Halberd is two Empire pikes back to back. Can't remember what I used for the helm, but in retrospect is it a bit much

Here are some of my builds:
Lord/hero on foot using AHW.
Image
Used black dragon head + body and legs from the old warrior set. I belive the weapons are also from the BD.

Peg lord/master:
Image
Same as above and as some have mentioned. Bret peg with black dragon char. I also used magnet on the weapon so he can wield both sword and lance from BD.

Sorceress (bad image):
Image
Also same as peg lord build.

I use vargheist wings on the pegs as they are a good match on the horse size, and are fairly easy to pain. They also give a more "evil" look than the feathers.

Update

Image
This is my newly lord/master on dark sted. I out magnet on left arm to switch between shield and bsb.

Looks like one of the heads from the High Elf Dragon kit with a crest from the Cold One Knights. Add in a Corsair left arm (sans dagger) and an old warrior standard-bearer right arm.

Yeah, I've done quite a bit of kitbashing myself...

Here is my sorceress I made recently :

Image

I put together a steed from the chariot kit, a sorceress from the dragon kit, the staff is from the dragon kit as well. I bent the horse's back legs a bit.

Ah yes....this one is awesome to the extreme. I love everything about it.
That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?

Those cold one's with wings are sweet baby dragons!!!

You can also do a similiar conversion using the high elf lions from the chariot. You put some wings on it(varghiest wings) and its a baby manticore.
Of course baby monster = pegasus.

And they don't have to be 'babies'. In a world with this many strange creatures its perfectly viable that some might not grow as big.
