[PLOG] Amboadine's new beginning (Druchii & Night Goblins)

Post by Amboadine »

Hi All,

As I have offered up advice and comments on others, it is only fair I share my work.
I have decided to start a brand new Druchii army from scratch. So this will be the forum of choice for my updates.

I am targeting around 3,000 pts by the time it is finished, mostly mounted or flying, but with a few infantry and I hope a few Forgeworld monsters, yet to decide which as yet.

I may also throw in a few goblins for when I need a change.

So first things first, here is a nice starting point, a whole lot of sprues to play with.

Image

I will start the Dark elves in earnest this week, but just as a quick preview of the start of my almost finished Night goblins.

Very early stages for both armies, but I hope you enjoy.

First things to make four Pegasi riders

Thanks for looking.

I have a serious soft spot for greenskins. They were my first army.

Well this week was a complete wash out, what with new product launches at work and Chinese new year at home (my wife being Chinese), I am hoping that I might get a bit more done later today, so far I have three partially built pegasi.
Looking forward to actually getting some pictures up.
I will aim to have something ready for tomorrow. Need to give myself some stringent targets to stick to, as I want to get them on the battle field in the next couple of months.

Well, I have made some progress with the Pegasi, currently three partially done. These will be my triad of Master / Dreadlord flying mounts. The forth will be a sorceress.

They are on temporary bases to work with until I have made some decent display bases. I want them raised in some way.

Still a bit to do with them, and they only have riders legs so far. Working out the load ups at the moment before I start gluing them together. One will be the BSB, thinking one with sword and one with halberd at the moment.

Couple of quick pictures, not the greatest quality, sorry. Will photograph them properly once they have riders on.

That's some fine looking bases. Will you paint them in those colors?

Definitely similar, I will do a couple of test runs on the various sizes and post the results.
I have wanted to get the bases for awhile now, just had to justify to myself the out lay. A tournament was my excuse.

They are from micro art studies. Just search Dark temple bases on ebay :)

Anyway thanks for bumping my plog, needed to do updates anyway.

So the other half is going back to visit her parents in Thailand for a month. So I am going to use that time to get my new models painted. Might set myself a daily challenge to post a new update each night, to make myself get on with it. Real life just seems to be taking over at the moment.

Those bases look realy good , now i don't want to throw a spanner in the works here but are the wings on the pegasi the right way round ? They look upside down to me .

In two minds. They are the correct way around for the wings I used, as they have dark eldar arms underneath, but I am not that happy with them. Might go with a little remodelling. I will get the riders body on and then see what I can do with them. Or I might change to bat wings instead of feathers.

Might be mine that are wrong then , these looked right to me though .Image

That's come up as a very large image , please ignore the carved out area as it will be hidden when the rider is fitted . It's still very much a work in progress .

I guess it really comes down to whether the wings are moving up or down :)
I am still going to revisit the models when I get them out of the box.

So the day hasn't been too productive, but I did manage to get a test Shade model made.
Combined the Wildwood rangers body and head and corsairs arms, then a quick weapon swap for the Great weapon.
Seems to work okay, and the kits fit pretty nicely together, so would be interested in what you think.

Great looking stuff you got there! I think the idea of creating shades out of the WWR box is a very good one as you got hoods and overall a more light armor feeling. Definitly something to remember if you don`t mind me nicking the idea ;)

Apart from that painting Orcs & Goblins is always fun imo, so many crazy details.

Lot of cool stuff, definitely interested to see how your shade conversions turn out. I think I'm going to try the same thing.

I like the idea of using the parts that you have. However I think he looks a little like he is running at the enemy with arms out stretched. How does he look with either the great weapon or the crossbow arm pointed down? Hard to tell in photos over the internet but I think it may make a big difference.

As a test model I was fairly happy. But yes improvements in posing can be made. I will have a play with some different combinations and post the results.

liking those pegasi. those horses are a stable platform indeed.
if your thinking bat wings, vargheist parts looks great, but i like them as is.
also wings in downwards motion is rarely seen, kudos for breaking the pattern :D

might one ask for sideways picture if them?

shades-. rangers are stunning models and the base is made for shades it feels.
but as I invision shades they scout ahead, sneak, crawl, run, jump, crouch, backstabbng, you name it.

anything really, except a determined pace against the enemy. altough he looks great, he doesnt look 'shady' .
reposing arms as you self suggest might give a more motion to it.

is the model full body, head and legs with just arms loose from the sprue?

hope this didnt come out too negative, i really like it but ( in my humble view)it needs more sneak or speed.

and lastly, more gobbos please :)

Model is indeed full body. So no real posing opportunity there.
I will see what else I come up with.
More gobbos, I have been meaning to get back to them as they are nice and easy to paint, but they are still all boxed up from my house move and I just never seem to have enough time to get going on them. I have so many plans for them and all the forgeworld models ready to paint. Just need the time.

Thats usually the biggest problem for me aswell, not enough time. Sooo many plans and ideas still left.
Thanks for the pegasi pics, they look great.
