Druchii.Net Secret Santa.

It's coming up quickly to that time of the year again and to help celebrate, our fellow DNetter Ilmaestro has suggested a fantastic idea that will help us all get into the festive season.

Druchii.Net is proud to launch a Secret Santa in our Painting and Modelling forum.

What's a Secret Santa I hear you say?

Well it's an exciting opportunity for all our buddying hobbyist to convert and paint a Dark Elf model for another member, in turn they will also receive a model from a member. A great way to have some fun!

How it will work:

Simply register your expression of interest in this thread.

PM me "Cultofkhaine" your Name and Address details
Note: I will only disclose your details to your Secret Santa

Members will be drawn at random, I will PM back to you another participating members name and postage details.

You then have until the 7th of December 2014 to convert, paint and post a Dark Elf model for your selected member.

This can be anything you like - a Unit, Mighty Lord, War Machine, Single Model so long as it fits the Druchii theme.

This is a good opportunity to do some research on your member - go and read their plog, find out what colour scheme they use, how they base their models, try to create something that will complement their army.

Post the progress of your work in this thread, we would all like to see, comment on each other’s work.

PLEASE DO NOT POST FINAL IMAGES OF YOUR WORK UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY YOUR SELECTED MEMBER!

One final Note:

Please keep to the spirit of this event. All Models, Materials and Postage Costs for your members present will be at your own expense - Druchii.Net will not be responsible for any incurred cost by entering this event.

Merry Christmas to all those entering and lets have a great event!

A big thankyou to all who participated in this event! Below are photos of the finished gifts. Some of you are still waiting please post your pictures and they will be added to this post.

D.net did one of these about 5 years ago and it was really a fun lil' thing. My secret painters work has been lording over my figure cabinet ever since...

Count me in!

Sounds like a plan to me, I'll give it a go. Sorry in advance for the person who draws me :p

I'd be up for that too!

If you get enough participants, will you group them by continent? Just curious as I can see both pros and cons of doing this.

Ive already participated in a miniature exchange over on asrai.org twice and been wondering if something like that could be brought over here as well. I'm definitely in and looking forward to painting something nice.
By the way, do we share pictures as we paint or only after the model reaches its destination? The former might maybe spoil some of the suprise, especially if we try to replicate the colour scheme of our giftee, but maybe I¨m missing something obvious.

Correct me if I'm wrong Cultofkhaine, but I think the idea is that we can show some of our WIP shots as we go along. I guess if you think that you're painting is going to obviously be recognised then you can refrain from posting, but I think we could all post WIP pics at least in the building phase. It's just a way to keep people involved, see progress, and get feedback without having to wait for months.

Oh, and no final shots - those we can save until after ;)

Yeah the original post says:
"Post the progress of your work in this thread, we would all like to see, comment on each other’s work."

I'm guessing, like Ilmaestro says, don't post the finished product. Maybe the recipient could do that. For starters, that would show that they received it OK, which would be nice. :)

Ilmaestro said it for me, but then again I think I said it earlier for him ;)

We only post final photos at the end once each person has received theirs.

Thanks to all those who have PM'd me their details please don't forget to do so if you have not yet.

I think if we are posting WIP shots, we should limit them to unpainted, as if we are making something to match a particular members army theme/colors, then it will give away the identity of the recipient, which I think diminishes the fun of the event. We are all grown up boys and girls (physically anyway, speaking for myself :D ) and we should be able to delay gratification for a few weeks, don't y'all think?

I would be keen too, and grouping sounds like a good plan, posting from New Zealand to UK/Europe or USA is expensive, and visa versa of course.

My thoughts exactly. Speaking from my experience at asrai.org, great part of the fun came from the surprise - you had no idea what you were going to receive and then you got a package with something awesome inside. So while it's true that the thread would get very quiet before the first packages arrived (or only with messages like "I have started painting", ůthe model is about 50% finished" and the like), I probably wouldn't implement anything that would take away from the suprise factor.
Now if we just limit ourselves to "before shots" of pre-converted models or parts... hm... :)

I'm not sure how to handle this - I was going to draw everyone at random, that way it is fair for everyone (and the Will of Khaine would choose who gets who)

I guess if we got lots of entries I could still choose at random by break it down by location.

At what point would everyone like to get notified of their person? I was thinking start of October, that way we have a few weeks to get lots of people on board.

Totally makes sense to me - that still allows time to get a mini done too.

What happens if you get an odd number of entrants?

Exactly. On the one hand international shipping isn't exactly cheap, and the more packages there are flying around the world the more chance there is of one of them going astray or being held up for weeks in customs somewhere. On the other hand, druchii.net is an international conclave of dark elf players, and reflecting that would be cool. After all, knowing "this model here came from someone half a world away that I made contact with" is pretty awesome! Also, if there are only 2 participants on a continent it would kinda take the element of surprise out of this.

Personally, I'd lean more towards not subdividing by region. After all, if I'm investing a few hours of my time in painting and converting a figure, the cost of postage seems kinda minor.

Hmm...not sure why that seemed insurmountable this morning in the shower, when I thought of it.

I'll chalk it up to being half asleep. :)

Mark me down as a vote for the international side. As much as I like the cheaper side of postage within my own area, surely something small like a warhammer mini wouldn't break the bank to send internationally. Plus it's just that much cooler to get mail from overseas :P

I wouldn't mind either way. From my experience at asrai.org, if you get enough entries there is still enough of the surprise element, but I completely agree with the added coolness of getting a model from the other half of the world.
As for models getting lost... that can happen even within one country, so I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.
