a very cool looking table i must admit, good job.

i'm interested in the bridges, did you use plasticard or just regular balsa or something else. have you tested this table yet gameswise? imho the table doesn't seem to favor any particular army, although warmachines might can be positioned quite wickedly

a nice table that was built there, it shows that you don't always have to realy on GW materials in order to make a good table .

I don't like it, it does not look realistic. You should use another material for the mountains and bridges.

Lathain, can you please give contructive criticism? iv posted it on the internet to get opions but saying that we should change stuff with no despcription of why we need to beyond "not realistic" isnt very helpful

bridges are balsa and we are deciding whether or not we should wash them...

the nice part about it is we always have remoavble terrain to put on it and since the boards move, we can change it up! war machines get very mean BUT they tend to get taken out by flyers quite rapidly due to the fact that if they flee they are off the board!!!!!

also the mountain is easly avoidable... if i dont get that side i deploy as far away as possible lol

How easy is balsa wood to work with? And what's the smallest size sheets of polystyrene people've come across? 6'X4'?

Balsa wood is one of the most easy-to-cut things, so maybe they didnt had any serious problems (just my 2c)

Balsa wood is the easiest substance in the universe to work with. You can make pretty much anything out of it.

Pretty good job there Azure. We've talked about doing modular terrain like this for a while in my gaming group, but the drawback is that it greatly benefits guess-range war machines, and it helps everyone gauge charge distances and spell ranges. Really no way around that, though.

I hope you're going to add some sand and grass on the Table, now it looks only well in a sense of setup... I like the river & the bridges. Hope the are big enough to carry a regiment ;)

balsa wood was amazingly easy to work with... like amazingly!!!!

we probablymgoing to flock some more areas and work on the bridges/rivers a bit but its ptreety much done

Icon: i have found that it doesnt help guess range weapons /charges and such but really not that much... we try to be fair about it and since both sides have magic it isnt really an issue... it doesnt help chargers as much as you think because they aLREADY have their deployment zone to tell how far 12" is!

Ok, I'll be a bit more helpful...

- Cut the balsawood for the bridges into smaller boads, they're just to big. And use smaller nails, or non at all ( use glue ). and PAINT the balsawood...

- The colours on the hills and field should be the same, and use more natual shades, the green in the woods doesn't look good.

- How did you make the river? paint on izopore? ( not sure on spelling ;) ) You should use something called Jackofoam. I'd cut a river into the Jackofoam and then glue fine gravel in there. I would then pour some epoxy resin in mixed with some blue ink, this would look good.

- Make some more texture in the mountains by cutting moe roughly and randomly. I'd use gray paint too, but that is what I prefer. Anyway, I would highlight in more stages.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean it as a serious drawback, just one of those things that some people might not be real crazy about. One of the couples in our gaming group made a table that is an awesome job of a ruined dwarven hall, and there are regularly spaced pillars on it that give you a nice 2' grid pattern. It's a slight advantage for range guessing machines, but the other advantages are even all around.

Really is a nice job, though. And all you have to do is build a 2' x 2' section to add to the possible terrain variations.

I'd really like to see some pics of it in action, you know, mid-game. Maybe do some battle reports....

I recommend flocking it (either with sand, ballasy, or saw dust) and then painting it. Of course you should not flock the river or giant rocks. Rather you should paint them directly. You can save money by painting the whole thing one color with a real cheap acrylic paint (I recoomend brown). You can then spray paint over the brown to get better coloring w/o ruing the foam. Then dry brush it.

Might I recommend: Scorched Brown as a base, followed by a bestial brown highlight. Once done, add green flock and static grass to your hearts content.

As for the river. I would seal it w/ spackle, paint the bed brown, paint the water blue and use some GW water effect to make it shine.

hate to tell ya but those rocks and mountains are rally big.. we did our best to get a color close to schorched brown from kelly more bt using GW paints is just ludicrus due to the amount we need

Icon Hack: we are working on getting together to get a grudge match going on (high elves versus my dark elves)

Lathain: Thank you for posting again, the hills are differnt color because they are removable nd we havent gotten around to repainting them yet... but they will be the same color eventually... oh and to make the river we "gouged" it... mening we took a knife, made a couple of light cuts and then dug into it with our fingers about 1/8 inch deep... then we painted it brown, then blue, and then a light laer of light green... then we poured "Realistic Water" from Woodland Scenics

keep em coming!
