The Destroyers of Innocence - COMPLETED - NEW PICTURES

Post by Xizor »

Hey,

Rather than raise my old thread here, I thought I'd start a new one. Most of these pictures are of models you have probably seen before. However, I have touched up little bits here and there, along with adding some static grass to all the bases. On the subject of bases, I have also added magnets to the bottom of all the bases and put magnetic plates in the movement trays. Its very usefull indeed, and will certainly be using them on all my infantry/cavalry in future.

New additions include the Pleasureseekers, Slaanesh BSB Herald (converted from my old model onto a titworm) and the Undivided Herald. The Daemon Prince has also had a bit of a makeover with a vastly improved weapon aswell as dying his hair black...emo!

I still have 6 Furies to paint before the army is totally complete. Hopefully they should be done in the next couple of weeks.

Ok, here we go:

They all look great, have you got a wide picture of all of the army it will be nice to see it all in one shot, the only thing i disagree with is your keeper of secrets nice idea but your merging two worlds i dont think it matches, manybe in a necron army, but all in all great i like the Deamon prince, what did you use looks like the deceivers body.

Really nice!

I must agree with Raziel02 that the Keeper's a bit out of place
But the rest is great though, especially your Demon prince!

I really like your army, but I also have a question. Where did you find the steeds for your chariot? I can't find them on the online store (without daemonettes riding them of course). Or do you have to cut them off their steeds (since I am not fond of converting)?

thx

You did a good job.
Actually I never leave without critizism, so I'd have done more shading on the models. The skintones (be it pink or "usual") might turn out better and more saturated when you apply more contrast to the shadowed areas (you have them, but in too low contrast) and I'd do some highlights.
I hope you had much pleasure while painting the models ;)

Hey,

Raziel02 - Taking a picture of the army as a whole is a really good idea actually and something I will be doing once I have completed the Furies. Ill probably make a diplay base for it aswell, though doing that would probably mean it wouldnt fit in my cabinet, but we'll see. The Keeper of Secrets is something that doesnt appeal to alot of people, I know. However, I like him, and I have received alot of good feedback aswell. Finally, yes; the Prince's body is that of the Deceivers. Cheers for the reply man.

Lamekh - Thanks man. As for the Keeper comments, see above :)

vinschent - You have to remove the Daemonettes from the Steeds and then Greenstuff the back into shape. Its not that hard really. Especially if you dont want to keep the Daemonettes.

Cat-the-Odd - Thanks. As for the highlights, the skin does have several highlights, followed by a flesh wash glaze and a final hlighlight. Its just my photo taking skills leave a lot to be desired!

Keep it coming,

Chris

Nice work Chris, the alteration to the DP really improves the look of the model. I much prefer your ogres though :D , they're awesome!

I think that the whole force is doens very well. I find the "normal" Skin tone to be slight "off" in my mind. Still it is fine painted job and converstion.

Mega-Uber-zuber cool! The daemon prince is certainly one of the cooler models i´ve seen lately. The grievous-demon is just plain sick!!! I think your conversions are slightly better than your painting. But none of them is bad!

I don't like the colour of the claws and hair and the skin needs more shading and highlighting but the conversions are nice, especially the daemon prince is awesome.

Are you using the standard chaos fury models or have you converted your own?

I belive that you have found a rather good choice of colours. I often find daemonettes to colourfull, and the natural skin makes them look somwhat less cartoony.
I also love the way the pitch-black movement trays fits with the colourscheme. Nice!
Hovewer, you could still practice your washes and blending.. On some, for example Kadaj, highlighted parts look a little out of place due to the lack of blending/washes. More water in the paint, and even thinner washes (bordering onto juice) have helped me in similiar departments.

Furies are finally completed...

Furies
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/ ... uries1.jpg

Just when I thought that would complete the army I am now forming a BoC/HoC Daemon list to use in the GT later this year...

Some of you may remember The Gimp - my Giant model. Well he is soon to join the Destroyers of Innocence, just need to do a small conversion to give him a whip.

Also I have a pretty nice Exalted Champion done up, Ill be taking photos of him once I have finished the Giant.

I will probably need to add more Tuskgor chariots to the list, though I am just going to use my Slaanesh Chariots (still may need to convert some more).

And finally (for now), Im going to need a Bray Shaman. Im using the standard model right now, though Im considering a conversion or two at the moment.

what pieces did you use for the furies. I see beastmen heads and upper bodies...but what about the rest of it?

Army looks amazing Chris...but Xizor is so, so naked O_O thank the gods for strategically placed ribbons!!

So, so naked is so, so suitable for Slaanesh, dontcha think? ;)

The Furies are simply plastic Ungor (body + head) with Fury wings stuck in the place of arms!

To then get them into decent posistions on the rocks etc I took a lighter to their legs briefly to heat the plastic up so I could change the posistion, a quick blow ( ) then cools it down and sets it in place. I very good little technique - its the first time I used it (im not sure if its a recognised technique, i just had a lighter to had an gave it a go!) but it worked well.

Im really happy with the end results.

Oh, and please dont all go out setting fire to your models...im not condoning it!

Another question...what sized brush did you use for the banner on your herald?

Yeah yeah, I know its crap! The worst part is that it has been repainted a couple of times and at some stage some flock or something got involved so up close you can see it stuck in there!

I drew the design on with a pencil that painted over it with probably a Standard (possibly Detail) brush.

OK cool...i don't know why common sense didn't tell me that the first. It looks good though not everyone can do freehand so i like it.

Looks good stuff, your right about the ECs head in the photo but I'll take your word on it. Otherwise nothing much to say apart from the gimps trousers are perhaps a bit glossy.

Well, I still love the army just as much as ever, and it's great to have it all in one place. I like how the army all fits together well, and the colour scheme and army is nice and original. Love the Gimp as well!

I suppose I should make some criticism, though I don't feel I should...The Giant's clothing looks a bit too shiny, but actually it adds the effect slightly. Really, the army is great, and I like it a lot. The furies are especially good, they are different, but tie into the army's scheme and theme well.

I like all the models, and the army. It's really good, that's really all I can say.

Honestly man, there are too many Star Wars influences on your army. Apart from that, i can say that i like your force. The colors of each unit match the next, the Deamon Prince is awesome, and the Gimp is a big morale improver for any Slaanesh force.

Hi Xizor,
I don´t like the colour choice but that´s a personal taste,
from technical side I can say that you paint to thick and with to less colours and that´s why the miniatures look boring. You should use a better highlightning and shading. Using Pink and turquoise can fastly end in a baby look. If using such colours you shouldn´t use the colours like GW sell them.
Instead for pink

Mix of liche purple and scorched brown ( should be a perfekt mix without beeing to purple or to brwon!!)
Highlight this base colour with:
1.) Mix and less Bleached Bone
2.) Mix with more Bleached Bone
3.) Less Mix with much Skull White

For a good Turquoise:

Mix Hawk Turquoise with Chaos Black
Highlight with adding some more Hawk Turquoise to the mix
Next highlight with Hawk Turquoise
Next highlight with Hawk Turquoise mixed with Bleached Bone.

These colours should look more realistic and less baby / comic style.

Because of your conversions...

Take a look at your pleasure seekers, they don´t have poses which based on a good anatomy and care for physical rules. If doing them dynamic all must look dynamic and realistic. I know that´s hard and sometimes a lot of conversion work is needed but in this way they don´t look good and pose doesn´t look right.

Take more time to plan your conversions.
The Prince was a good idea but executed badly. Adding more details would help this miniature to make it much more an eyecatcher. The simple painting schema supports the boring look. sorry but that loincloth crys for freehands, his weapon want´s more jewelry and his body more decoration and details, also a better highlighning of his skin. This miniature could be very impressive but it isn´t becasue you end where you had a very good start!

Becasue of the gimp...
I don´t like the Sado Maso Theme at all. I´m proud owner of a ginat myself and know how much parts this amazing miniature has and what is possible. No one expect that you give yours two heads and four arms and changed pose like I did. but there is much more possible with this range on possibilities. Especially with a Slaanesh theme! Especilly go too much away from the giant theme kills the overall look.
A giant need a rough macelike weapon,
a stupid looking face
and a collection full of collectables

For my own I had give him the mace builded of several swords carried by his two right hands,
One left holds a keepder of secret sword and the last one carry a demonette ( king kong theme)

His trousers consists of several stolen chaos and slaanesh banners, teared in pieces and now docerate his clothes. He has some new armour and slaanesh shilds pierced in his skin. With your black painting of the trousers you stole yourself the best part for every painter. I think your SM Idea stole yourself the view for your possibilities creating here an impressive Slaanesh giant.
Technically from paintind side all points allready said are here the same. To thick colours and less contrast.

This was very hard critic I know, but I think you should know how your work looked, especially because here are too many positice comments and very less critic. I think you can do more and shouldn´t be satisfied with compliments, so take this as a constructive critic with help and try to step forward.

Regards GeOrc
